In Switzerland, 90% of businesses are close on Sundays. No malls and supermarkets. People say - Sunday is for God and family.

Oh man... The answer about Lucifer represents so well why I could neber be Catholic (with respect)- that answer about Mary has no grounding in scripture at all. There are so many beautiful things about the Roman tradition but this exalting of Mary is nit one of them.

That’s so beautiful. You know yes Mary literally held the light that is Christ our Lord. It’s my oldest Son’s birthday tomorrow. He’s all grown up and in the last part of his twenties now. I remember when my first Wife was pregnant with him. I used to love feeling him kick while he was inside her Womb. That always reminded me of when Mary met Elizabeth and Elizabeth was pregnant with John the Baptist. The verse says of Elizabeth that the ‘child moved within her’. It was as if even while still in utero John recognised this was Jesus, the light of the World who was even then coming into the world. I love thinking of Mary as the new light bearer because as the Father says here Lucifer rebelled and pridefully disobeyed God. However Mary humbly accepted God’s will for her and her life and thanks be to God our Saviour Jesus Christ was born into this World to save sinners like ourselves.

@Michaleleer do you have pictures of family hung up in your home? What of family members who have passed away? Do you never speak to those pictures or simply look at them and say something hoping tjey could hear you? If so, is that worshipping them as idols? "Oh grandma, I know you're looking out for me, please help deal with this situation which I know you're familiar with." That's not worshipping that's asking intercession, there's a BIG difference.

I'm glad I found Father Mike, he is full of life, charismatic and a joy to listen to. He presents difficult theological topics very simply. I used to listen Fr. John Carapi before the scandals but even now believe he is holy man. I see Christ in Father Mike, Jesus also was charismatic, and easy to listen to, even though the Truth no mater how it is conveyed can can cut us. I pray Father Mike's ministry will continue to flourish as the Holy Spirit continues to animate his love for God, for his neighbor and the Church.

I work Sundays a lot and have a lot Wednesdays, Thursdays and other days off. When one week, I only work Monday, Tuesday and Sunday, I can’t call in sick on Sunday because I won’t get enough money each month if I do that every time... I rest the other days of the week. The fact that it’s always Sunday makes it almost impossible for me. That means I have to lie and call in sick for work.

I get how you feel. I don't understand why people with other religions always bash and criticize Catholics. "Why do you believe in this" "why do you believe in that" or " you're wrong about this or that". Man, I don't criticize other religions or tell them they are wrong in what they believe. I have been questioned numerous times and I get angry with myself because I haven't been able do "defend" my religion or haven't been able to respond to their questions. I've felt as if I'm being attacked. This is why I want to learn more about my religion and be able to defend my faith. I have a looooong way to go. There is so much I don't know. 😕

No, the real church was the one the apostle create by preaching the word to the world, they die preaching the word in the street, these new churches didnt even go to the streets to preach the word but in the other side the protestant they are always on the streets like Jesus did, like the apostle did, like a real christian, so every church had bad and good. Dont come here saying" satan create protestant" when they are better christians than you.

#askfrmike: Hi, I asked my pastor if we could organise a fundraising to buy Bibles to put in each pew of our church. He answered that even if they were all free, he didn't know what they'd do with the Bibles; they weren't needed in each pew. I like to sit in church in the middle of the day talking to Jesus and I always wish there was a Bible there. My pastor said I could just bring my own; that the readings necessary for Mass were in the missel. Even if that's true, is there a legitimate reason not to have Bibles in our church pews? How could a church say, "no"?

Hi Father this so struck a chord with the scripture I read this morning on Bible Gateway from the Psalms
51:12. ‘Return the joy of your salvation to me and sustain me with a willing spirit.’
I was thinking it’s not like the Lord needs us to ‘big him up’ or praise him. It’s not like he’s some kind of celebrity who feeds off our adulation and gets a bit miffed if we don’t constantly tell him how great we reckon he is. Love your Channel Father. Keep up the good work and may the Lord richly bless you in ministry of his word and his unfailing love.

My advice to you is pray to God, and only to God.
In Deuteronomy, Jesus tells the Israelites: your God is one.
In John 17:3 Jesus calls the Father the only true God.
It's clear that you are struggling with this. I'm telling you that the reason is, because it isn't right.
I advise you to check out Islam.
It makes sense, and it's clear.
And all answers are clearly given to all your questions, straight from God, in the Quran.
      No intermediary needed.
No priest, no church, no human, no confusion.
If you have questions, I'll try my best to answer them to the best of my knowledge.

Sunday is the Sabbath not just a day off. I get all my chores done by Saturday so Sunday is a holy day focussed on the Lord. It IS doable. Sunday service essential. Then, Family time, scripture study, spiritual literature, sleep, journal writing, letter writing, calling those without family, a nice leisurely meal at the table, listen to choral music, visit the sick, etc. We do not watch tv or movies on the sabbath. Neither do we go out to eat or shop thus making others work. It makes such a difference to the rest of the week when you tithe a day out of the week to focus on the Lord rather than worldly pleasures.

But, OBVIOUSLY you DO NOT care what God calls it. The FIRST day of the week and ONLY THAT!!!
Whay day does SAY is HIS HOLY DAY????
THAT IS WHAT IS most important!!
Isaiah 58:13 13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on MY HOLY DAY; and call the sabbath a delight, the HOLY of the Lord, honourable; and shalt honour him, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words:
THE ONLY DAY GOD SAYS IS HIS HOLY DAY--SAbbath--The ONLY day GOD SAYS IS THE SABBATH IS the seventh day!!!
I posted this several months ago. NOT one catholic has replied! Why????
Catholics claim Sunday is a holy day made by God.
I will ask these questions again which NO ONE can answer.
And I know you will NOT!!!

    I had to share this.
In Genesis chapter 2 verse 3 it says that God blessed the 7th day and made it holy. After the Great Flood, when people again began to be wicked they fell away from Sabbath observance (which God ordained to be Saturday, not Sunday) so God said to Moses to REMEMBER the Sabbath day and to keep it Holy. The Ten Commandments were not the original decree for resting. They were a reminder. All respect to you Father, I just had to point it out.

Jesus Himself said "I have not come to abolish the teaching (meaning the 'mosaic law' as you say), but to fulfill it" Jesus followed mosaic law, so what right do we have to not do it ourselves? I intend no disrepect by my comment, I was merely pointing out that the day of rest was established in Genesis and not in the Ten Commandments. I am not being a troll.

Regarding the 'name' Lucifer. This comes from the Latin translation of the Old Testament. In Hebrew the word is not Lucifer but Hallel. In Hebrew Hallel means "Praise" as in hallelujah which means "Praise God". However, Hallel was also the name or title that was applied in Hebrew to the morning star (the planet Venus, the first start to appear at night and the last to be visible at morning).
In Latin, the morning star was called "Lucifer". So Hallel was translated to Lucifer.
In this passage in the Old Testament the line reads "... Lucifer, son of the dawn..." So if it were translated instead of rendered as a proper name it would be "morning star, son of the dawn".
Further, this title was not given specifically to one angel. Rather it was a title that was applied to lots of Angels. This can be seen in the book of Job when God asks Job if he was present at the creation of the world. God says "were you there when the morning stars sang for joy?" Here the word hellel / lucifer is translated rather than rendered as a proper name. If it were this would be "were you there when the lucifers sang for joy?"
So, this is a common angelic title that seems to be applied to one particular angel as the exemplar of the title. Further, Lucifer is described in this passage as a "Cherub", one of the cherubim. In ancient near eastern cultures, Cherubim where the "throne guardians" of the heavens. They stood guard around the divine throne. The passage also describes Lucifer as being musical. This combined with the fact that the title "Hallel" literally means praise, and the position of the throne guardian cherub, seems to suggest that his job was to stand near the throne of God, covering the glory of God ('anointed cherub who covers') and praising God with music. The name Hallel perhaps also suggests a double meaning in that Lucifer fell from grace because he stopped giving praise and desired to receive praise in place of God.

#askfrmike when we pray to God are we essentially praying to sway God's mind a certain way or are his choices set in stone? I guess I'm asking what prayer really does in the mind and heart of God.

+OrganicOrganist Thanks for sharing your perspective. Personally I think of prayer as a two-way thing, I consider my relationship with God as something like a friendship. If I had a friend who always talked but never listened it would be hard to continue a relationship with them, but these are just my thoughts.

Father Mike. I noticed that most Bible movies skip sections of the Bible containing the church's teaching. like, there's the part "...you shall be called Peter And apone this rock I shall build my church... " it's made to "...you shall be called Peter... "
or the Last supper... "...this is my body which shall be offered for many... " is made to "...(and he blessed the bread)...i shall not eat or drink from the fruit of the vine...)
it looks so righteous to seat and watch a bible movie cause you are trying to watch something clean but then you can't help feeling like you're going further down a nasty road😕

Sometimes I sit quietly and meditate in order to listen to what God has to say but I don't know if He is truly speaking to me or if it is just the voices (or me talking to myself) inside my head. I used to struggle with this a lot. Then I was once told that reading scripture is the best way of listening to God speak to us. It's amazing! Scripture is the Living Word, we can read the same passage so many times and each time God whispers different things to us as new things stand out when we read it.

#askfrmike I was recently talking with another Catholic and they said the "liturgy needs to be changed. It has been around for 1200 years". Several of us commented that our liturgy came from the Last Supper and changing it would basically negate what the Mass is about. They said no it wouldn't. When asked to clarify what they wanted to change, they suddenly had to leave. This person was very adamant. They grew up pre-Vatican II by the way. How do we convince them of where the liturgy came from? This person also has issues with purgatory and the existence of the devil==they think the Church doesn't teach these anymore. They are active in the Church so it is bothersome to think that maybe they are spreading these liberal beliefs to others. Thanks Fr. Mike!

#askfrmike Do angels have free will and if not how could Lucifer fall by choosing to be disobedient? My husband says that God used Lucifer, his highest angel, as a willing pawn in order to give mankind free will so that we could become willing servants and lovers of God instead of slaves to God with no choice but to love and obey. I'm so confused now. I suppose as long as one loves God and makes him Lord of your heart and life and gives their soul to Jesus that's the most important thing but 🤷 I'm a "details" kind of person
