We're going to Whistler in Feb and it was about $3500 USD for two (rentals, lift tix, cheap hotel, flight from Indy, shuttle, etc) That doesn't include meals/drinks or the $1000/person to do heli skiing.
***** The reason we can see the helicopter blades spinning slowly is that the rotations per second of the blades on the helicopter is close to the number of frames the camera records per second. If the rates were to be exactly the same, for example 60fps and 60 rotations per second, when we watched the video back it would look like the blades were completely static when the helicopter was flying!
@eldavido761 i would recommend not using any sticky mounts. I had a go pro last christmas and lost it the first day because of the mount. I just got a new one and i'm going to use the chest mount. (also the chesty get the powder splashes so it's cooler)
@turbozonda you can, its something you discuss with your guide we did a couple trees runs but i left the gopro recording over lunch by accident and it drained all the batt
@humperfier Its because the rotors are spinning much faster than the framerate of the camera. For instance, if the frame rate is 60 frames per second and the rotation of the rotor was 60 rotations per second. The rotor would look like it wasnt spinning because the rotor would be in the excact same spot everytime a frame was captured??? get it?? :)
thanks for watching :) but my apologies to those who insist on correctness, im a big golfer too so johnny miller must've popped into my cortex by accident while typing that comment if you are however interested in learning more about warren miller, an amazing documentary called swift. silent. deep. details his foray into the world of extreme skiing and how inspired the jackson hole air force
depends. If you are taking a plane and staying for a week probably 2-4 grand. and if in switzerland 5-6. If you live near a hill and stay at a hotel it will probably be 1 grand. (for hotel and lift pass) oh and most lift passes cost 60-80 dollars per day
@THEmanTHATSwhite because the camera used to shoot this would be buried in the middle of the Canadian Rockies along with 5 guys who aren't athletes in a Johnny Miller film
Hey! Thanks for a super great video! Hopefully I will film something similar soon. Wanted to ask you about average speeds that you guys went with and a level of experience you need for such thing. I personally ski at a pretty good level but can't ski on moguls at all.
Negative? He was simply stating his opinion and I agree. I think without the music it would be better because you can experience like you are there; instead of being constantly reminded you are a just behind a screen. I just want to experience it for real. Cleche, but as he said, just let the video and the sound tell the story!. Awesome video!
great vid man, i bought a go pro and for some reason when i put it on my helmet i either see the slope and not my skiis, or the other way around. do u have something to make the cam higher?
Sorry JavyFive, but it worth a comment about safety. The ideal track was on the right, close to the rocks, free of avalanche risk. It was already tracked, but there was a reason for this: simply it was the safest possible in that condition. Taking the slope with powder exactly in the middle, and moreover with two skiers on the same line means taking a great risk. Powder skiing emotion doesn't worth the risk to die under an avalanche. If the first skier is a mountain guide this makes me wonder!
great video man !! but wich mount did you use ?? i used my curved mount on the top of mij helmet but its almost impossible to get the right angle (the top of your skis and de powder etc)
dont ask me how much it costs, lots of companies are different, and lots of areas are different we went in whistler which is probably a lot more expensive than going in a less touristy mountain and to be completely honest, you cant put a price on this kind of experience, its just so surreal
The helicopter blades appear to be moving really slowly when it takes off. Don't they usually move so fast that you can't even see them? I find that strange.
are you using the helmet mount or the chesty in all these videos? I just got the gopro so I am wondering what the best mount is for capturing skiing videos :) thanks!
Is your GoPro mounted on your helmet or a chest harness? Also, what filming setting did you have it on to not only see your skis in the shot, but also the horizon?
nice video man!!! ;), what video editing software did you use to make it? i would like to make a video with also some 960p 48fps footage but i never manage to get the best quality out of it when i finally publish it using final cut pro x10.. so would be awesome if you told me which video editing software you used? :D thanks man
@eldavido761 Helmet for most of the time but if you want more of the terrain picutered get the chest mount, but not for powder, helmet is you best bet for most situations
I can see that you're attempting to give an explanation for the seeming impossibility that we see on the screen, and for that, I thank you. Having said that, I must respectfully point out that your comment is not even a sentence, what to speak of being an actual explanation. Care to elaborate?
Thats the cleanest powder i've ever seen. Some real nice skiing there as well. Crisp turns..
Watched it back in 2011, 2012 and now today man awesome video!
We're going to Whistler in Feb and it was about $3500 USD for two (rentals, lift tix, cheap hotel, flight from Indy, shuttle, etc)
That doesn't include meals/drinks or the $1000/person to do heli skiing.
dude this powder is incredible. looks like some beautiful stuff
just beautiful, and deeply calming, in a way. i ignored your skis and imagined you were flying down the mountain :D
great song and incredible powder....Strobe and Skiing = Prime watching experience
so ridiculously epic. i wish i had a headcam in japan on my backcountry tour
This is one of the most beautifull places on the world!
Those blades are spinning awfully slow to lift that helicopter. Must be magic.
Going up there spring break! Can't wait!
Awesome!
As a side note: those helicopter blades are tripping me out haha.
***** The reason we can see the helicopter blades spinning slowly is that the rotations per second of the blades on the helicopter is close to the number of frames the camera records per second. STROBE thats like the best ski song ever
Can't go wrong with Strobe! Great video!
@eldavido761 i would recommend not using any sticky mounts. I had a go pro last christmas and lost it the first day because of the mount. I just got a new one and i'm going to use the chest mount. (also the chesty get the powder splashes so it's cooler)
thanks for sharing. Can't wait to hit the powder this year.
@turbozonda you can, its something you discuss with your guide we did a couple trees runs but i left the gopro recording over lunch by accident and it drained all the batt
haha the helicopters blades, that was pretty trippy xD
@humperfier Its because the rotors are spinning much faster than the framerate of the camera.

The rotor would look like it wasnt spinning because the rotor would be in the excact same spot everytime a frame was captured???
get it?? :)
awesome footage and music
that must feel like heaven
glad my skiing could inspire some kind of genuine human response
I went to Revelstoke last winter and I chickened out of doing heli-skiing. I'm so upset I didn't go...maybe next time I will :s
thanks for watching :)
but my apologies to those who insist on correctness, im a big golfer too so johnny miller must've popped into my cortex by accident while typing that comment
if you are however interested in learning more about warren miller, an amazing documentary called swift. silent. deep. details his foray into the world of extreme skiing and how inspired the jackson hole air force
First tracks, I can't wait
@eldavido761 helmet mount in these ones, if you use the chesty in deep powder all you get is snow splashing into it
depends. If you are taking a plane and staying for a week probably 2-4 grand. and if in switzerland 5-6. If you live near a hill and stay at a hotel it will probably be 1 grand. (for hotel and lift pass) oh and most lift passes cost 60-80 dollars per day
How could anyone dislike this video!
looks awesome. Shaky skis though gotta work on keeping them stable
Buddy I love those Ski's Haha I have the same ones i was gonna get this years version but my friend has them i think we have the same pole's to.
@turbozonda not from where we were, there wasnt even an actual road to the helicopter haha just a plowed out area done by the tour company
@THEmanTHATSwhite because the camera used to shoot this would be buried in the middle of the Canadian Rockies along with 5 guys who aren't athletes in a Johnny Miller film

Nice video !!
thank you
sweet turns
It's $850-1200 per person for a trip. So it's definitely not cheap, but man it's fun!
Negative? He was simply stating his opinion and I agree. Keep it up bro nice video
I noticed that too -- it's a mystery to me!
Nice S7 !
great vid man, i bought a go pro and for some reason when i put it on my helmet i either see the slope and not my skiis, or the other way around. do u have something to make the cam higher?
mmmm floaty, yea ive never been in the much powder but i can imagine what it feels like

My dad has done that looks sooooooooooooooooo fun!!
uhhm there was about 8 cliffs + drops that looked amazing
dont ask me how much it costs, lots of companies are different, and lots of areas are different
we went in whistler which is probably a lot more expensive than going in a less touristy mountain
and to be completely honest, you cant put a price on this kind of experience, its just so surreal
Nice choice of music. :D

WOW! I have to try that!
@JayyFive

skiing is almost here.i live in Colorado. Do you live in canada
amazing

The helicopter blades appear to be moving really slowly when it takes off. Don't they usually move so fast that you can't even see them?
I find that strange.
how can the helicopter take off, when the propeller is barely moving? it happens both at the start and the end
are you using the helmet mount or the chesty in all these videos? I just got the gopro so I am wondering what the best mount is for capturing skiing videos :) thanks!
Is your GoPro mounted on your helmet or a chest harness? Also, what filming setting did you have it on to not only see your skis in the shot, but also the horizon?
How many have you pay for this votage in mountain with the helicopter ??
what happens when you're heliskiing and you hit some flats in deep powder. what do you do?
nice video man!!! ;), what video editing software did you use to make it? i would like to make a video with also some 960p 48fps footage but i never manage to get the best quality out of it when i finally publish it using final cut pro x10.. so would be awesome if you told me which video editing software you used? :D thanks man

why didn't you huck that 200+ ft cliff to the right?????
I can see that you're attempting to give an explanation for the seeming impossibility that we see on the screen, and for that, I thank you.
Having said that, I must respectfully point out that your comment is not even a sentence, what to speak of being an actual explanation.
Care to elaborate?
WTF 0:51 the rotor blades look so slow and the helicopter goes up
