Part 1. Will I win or will I lose? I bought a Copart 1994 Mustang GT Convertible for $1750 plus fees

  • This is our first time buying a Copart car. I have no tripod, I'm not a professional. I used my phone. I wanted to be real and show it from the beginning after receiving the car. I had my son Joey helping as he's a better mechanic that me. I also misspoke on the wheels. I said $800 each. That's obviously wrong as they were $800 total. Same with the seats. Feel free to add comments and help us with anything I either asked for help or anything you notice.

    4:00 - those under door trim extensions usually have that problem. A body man or even Ebay today can find the fasteners to reattach that panel. The rims are nice, they are only dirty and the seats are nice too. You may need to mount wider rubber out back. A $1750 purchase price is a steal. I own a 94 GT hardtop and I love it. Maybe not the most powerful Mustang but it is what it is and the fun factor is very big with these. These cars are not OBD II equipped meaning that reading some of the errors will necessitate a different kind of scanner. Because of that in my state they are inspection exempt. Check down by you as it may not need a new inspection sticker. Mine has an "inspection exempt" placard on the windshield which is all it needs to get around.

    In my opinion you have scored. For the price you’ve bought it for. Parts alone would get your money back. Nice video btw. Have a blessed Sunday 🙏

      Thanks. That was kind of my thought. If I started it and the engine and transmission blew up, I could still sell wheels, seats...etc and be covered. Turns out it's a cool working car.

    Bro great find!!! 👍 Also a car that old is attended to be a project car, so if the engine or trans blow it's time drop what you want in there and have fun and pain doing it 😂

    If it was a standard shift I’d say the Speedo gear was changed or left out after a rear gear change, that could have something to do with the speedo easy to check, But it being a automatic IDK. Your hood prop rod is missing. Someone Prob did a aftermarket O2 sensor or delete when they did exhaust sounds like a off road exhaust, so if you fix that your check engine light will come on, the computer will read a rich condition and trigger the light you can have a chip burned to fix that or several companies (Steeda-American muscle) can help with what you need.The lack of performance with that year mustang,well it is what it is, meaning the 94-95 mustang verts with AOD are the slowest H.O.mustang ever, ford made changes to the weight, EEC and no of those helped performance. You could change to 3.73 gears and a good stall maybe 3400. Then some roller rockers and a few cheap bolt on parts here and there. Rare to find those old 5.0’s with low miles good luck enjoy

    Its a v8 and a Convertable, Great firtment of wheels Stock has crazy wheel gap. On stock hight you still scrape the diff on speed bumps :( the steering wheel u can fix by buying a genuine leather wrap that you can saw on yourself for under $20 it makes a tremendous diffrence since you always touch it. I got a 96 gt vert for 2260 last year and so far i love it. Also take backseats out and look for wet areas under carpet and rust. Also make sure to check for convertable draining water properly through weep holes. Oil u can put a quart over what they say . Great ride man Congrats

      @JoeTheCheapskate  Год назад

      Thanks!! I found out the funk on the steering wheel was just melted on and dried rubber from a cheap cover. I have been able to scrape it off, then use my steamer to clean it. Got a ways to go though. In the other videos, I took the interior completely out, and power washed the carpet. Made a big difference. It's way better at stock height than when it was lowered and it scraped on everything.

    The scary thing about flood cars is a problem can suck you down and endless rabbit hole of pain and dispair. But it sounds like you knew that going in. I respect rolling the dice! I plan to do that when I get a house that can handle multiple cars.
    Amazing job cleaning the car up!
    Your car looks to be sitting lower than mine, but mine is a 2010. Look at the suspension and see if anything looks aftermarket.
    I think the rim color looks ghastly too. PlastiDip to the rescue, which will be great video content FTW! They will look killer black with the chrome rings.
    Change the plugs AND the wires. Run an ODBII check while driving to check for misses. It might be worth taking it to a mechanic for a full scan. Or buy a good scanner - I've seen them for $400. I will get one soon.
    Tires have dates on them. Make sure yours are not more than 6-8 years old. The date is a code: For example, a tire with the number 2910 was manufactured in the 29th week of 2010.

    • @JoeTheCheapskate
      @JoeTheCheapskate  Год назад

      Ended up measuring height and checking stock specs. Yep. It's been lowered. It drives me crazy that people do this. They are designed to work at a certain ride height, not designed to scrape on the ground. Tires are going to need attention in the next year or so, but OK for now. 3717, so around Sept 2017 so still less than 6 years old.

    • @MikeTheBackyardMechanic
      @MikeTheBackyardMechanic Год назад

      I need to correct myself. Your car is a '94, so it is (most likely) not ODBII, it's going to be EEC-V and ODBI. Might make diagnosing difficult or or at least you will need multiple scanners.

      @@MikeTheBackyardMechanic Not too bad. It blinks a sequence. 5 flashes, pause, 2 flashes. Code 52. I have a good scanner that hooks to my laptop, but it's ODBII (1996 or later)

      @@sn95andsbfgarage27 Thought you might know. So I thought it was working, but then the speedo stopped working. Then I drove it on the highway, and 15 minutes later while driving, it just automatically started working...jumped up to 65 and is accurate. I'm thinking maybe I need to take apart the dash, and see if the odometer needs lubrication, as well as that little gear under the drivers side floorboard underneath. Any tips on that?

    • @sn95andsbfgarage27
      @sn95andsbfgarage27 Год назад +1

      If the gears on the odometer were replaced it can only be a few thing either the actual odometer itself is faulty or if the speedo is skipping then could be the actually wires to the speedo

    It is my belief that the 1996 Mustang was the first year they used the 4.6LT engine ... yet you say this is a 1994 with a fender badge of a 4.6LT engine??? That style Mustang went from 1994 thru 1998.

    • @JoeTheCheapskate
      @JoeTheCheapskate  Год назад

      You are correct in that 94-95 have the old fox body 5.0, and 1996 on have the 4.6. But the fender badge on the 94-95 say GT Mustang, which is what this says. It doesn't say 4.6
