    As an owner of a 97 Mustang GT convertible in the north. Drove it 9 yrs winter and summer before keeping it in the garage for winters until now. With the right snow tires I can climb hill even buses were sliding backwards. As far as driving and power, it matches my 92 Acura Vigor except with better brakes. From trim and refinement, no doubt the Stang is no match.
    From styling perspective this model saved the Mustang brand, it was an instant hit. The Camero and the Challenger have been in the rearview mirror of the pony since this model.

    My 1994 mustang has functional side scoops. I’m not sure what year they stopped, maybe 96, but they vent air directly onto the tire, so I am not sure how well that affects the cooling of the brakes.
    And that fake wood was a very common mod in the early 2000s. They sold kits like that for all makes and models. Definitely not a dealer add on. I also don’t know what year they stopped this, but most of those pieces with the decals were coated in that infamous rubberized coating, which was very cool when new, but easily scrapped off or got sticky over time. Some owners would paint theirs, others, I suppose, went with decals.

    That’s not a composite hood unless it’s aftermarket. Also the quarter vents were real depending on the model and year. I had a 96 GT coupe and vert with real vents. That car appears to be a 96 based on the dash clock so the vents should be real just check the wheel well and you’ll see vents. Further, sn95s didn’t come with IRS that wasn’t available until new edge with the cobra…. Talking about the interior, again you are showing your young ignorance. Prior to this generation of cars, the interior vinyl dried out and cracked easily. So while not, luxurious, the plastic they used was to combat the complaints of cracking plastic in previous generations. So to those of us in those days, this was an advance, not a negative. Is it as luxurious? No, but as you said it is holding up well.....and it is a convertible. obviously the person who bought this was not looking for a hard core sports car, hence the fake wood. Again, stop judging the past by today's standards. Your generation seems to love to do that without knowing the backstory.

My first mustang was given to me from my mom, yep the ugly 1978 mustang II, but i loved that because i was happy to have a car. After that hand me down, I got a 1985 GT my senior year of high school. I got so many tickets, i was called an habitual violator of the law. The judge said if i get one more ticket my license would be suspended. I didn't get anymore tickets after that. Then came the 1994 GT, and i was hooked and i love my car, i did let my teenage son drive it a few times while he was a senior in high school. But that didn't last long, when he came home one night and said i barely hit the curb. 800 dollars later, tie rod, lower control arm and new tire installed, it was his last time driving my mustang. This version of the mustang WAY outsold the Camaro proving it was the right car for it's time....not necessarily yours.

    Good review - I have a stock 1994 GT 5.0L/5 speed in the same red. Is it fast? Nope. Does it sound good? Yeah, it has the classic V8 rumble. After driving a 1993 Fox body 5.0L/5 speed, the fox body was faster because it was lighter, but the ride, seats, brakes, squeaks and rattles are so much better on the SN95 that it wasn’t even a comparison. They don’t get the love they deserve, but that’s okay. Some of us still enjoy them :)

    Hindsight is 20-20. Compared to the fox bodies, these were a breath of fresh air. had 2 fox bodies and they were, and are, ass ugly. But thats what we had. that fake wood in the interior was an aftermarket kit. Usually ads for it were in the back of car magazines back in the day. A "magazine" is a "website" printed on paper and thousands of copies were sold and sent by "mail". "Mail" is an email delivered by people instead of computers.

As a collectible or funnin' around car, yeah it's fun. As far as pricing goes, sure u could get alot for 'em now in relation to the original price. BUT as daily drivers, they were downright terrible. Drove mine for years. Harsh ride, don't even try it in snow or rain. ZERO traction. just too light in the ass end. And ughh... 4 lug wheels. had an 88 GT new. heater core, and burned a quart of oil every week since it was new. Ford said it was normal. A few years after i sold it, got a 90 LX 5.0 for 4500 bucks. The SN95/New Edge are the last relatively light Mustang. It’s essentially a Fox body with a more rigid structure. Still has pronounced front end brake dive geometry and bushing bind rear end, but it has a wider track, better brakes and more predictable handling. Excellent car to modify for either drag racing or road course. It will also fit any Ford engine you can imagine short of a Powerstroke. GTs weighed right around 3250. Coyote swap and have a blast.

  • @Ready72000
    @Ready72000 2 года назад +5

    The new edge Mustangs are kinda ugly but the early SN-95s look great! I bought a 1995 GT convertible new and drove it for 19 years and 275,000 miles. Best, most reliable car I ever owned. Also the cheapest to own, as few things ever broke except the plastic odometer gears, the power seat gears, and the stator. Otherwise, I only replaced wear items - tires, batteries, brakes, shocks and such. Every other part on the car was original except for as mentioned, and the convertible top. By far the cheapest (amortized over 19 years) and most reliable car I ever owned. It still ran well when I sold it.
    I had to run the seat in the most rearward position to be comfortable. The gears in the power seat platform finally broke, so I ditched the power apparatus for the simplicity of manual controls from a 6-cylinder Mustang. This is an easy job. Just unbolt the seats, flip, unplug, unbolt the electric platform, bolt on the manual rails with spring, and reinstall the seats. Easy, easy.
    I later bought a 1997 GT convertible but gave it to my daughter, whose boyfriend got rear-ended while driving to military duty, and it was totaled. I still thought it was a better car than a new edge Mustang.
    The 94-98 Mustangs were great, but the new edge ones sucked. I have owned both. And the 94-98 are better looking, too. The floating pony in the grille looks great!
