I always do this during the winter months. January, February and March are my no spend months. The money I save pays for our yearly family vacation. I live in Canada and hate the cold so it's a really good time for me to save money since I stay home most of the winter except to go to work.

    • @msdanaryan

Love it. I really like that idea. I might do a no spend winter too. Combine “no spend” with the “Hygge” mentality from Denmark. Stay home and focus on comfort, candles and close family.

This is brilliant. About 4 years ago I had an epiphany about spending....that I actually spended money recreationally.... after that I noticed the how and why I spent money. This consciousness changed my life...so much so that my family would urge me to spend money!
But now that I am retired, this skill has helped me immeasurably. Good job Dana!as usual your tips are so valuable.

No spend months are so helpful for me so I try to do them twice a year. The biggest benefit is in the savings from not eating out. Since I can’t spend the money it quickly forces me into a new habit of planning meals and making sure to allot TIME to cooking! So so important. You get creative, batch cook to put things in the freezer, cut up a few things in advance for quick meals. Even tuna and peanut butter sandwiches on rush days just to stay on track. (Why can’t I do this every single month is beyond me!!) Also, it’s fun to notice all the ways you become resourceful with what you have at home. Every time I think “oh I need to buy this to do this or fix this”, I remember I can’t, so I look around the house to see what I already have that can serve the purpose. Sometimes I even had the item already that I was going to buy but didn’t remember because it was tucked away in a closet! Better for your wallet and your home and the environment too since you’re not buying things needlessly to be tossed away later on! Anyway, great video Dana and great idea and I super highly recommend everyone try it!! Best of luck and happy new year to anyone who’s reading this 😊

I’m new to this idea 💡 I am going to give this a go!!! I’m a Dave Ramsey girl myself and I do plan to change!!! I’m a young grandmother to 5 grandchildren, and I definitely want to be a good role model for them. Young people don’t get 💳 credit cards for any reason!!! Thanks to these predators on are children their lives are not going to be the same!!! I fell victim to them when I was only 18 years old, and I had to file bankruptcy when I was 32 years old!!! My husband became ill and died leaving me to raise our 2 daughters on my own!!! I’m legally blind and I had health issues, but I did it!!! I had to give up my very lucrative business, because I didn’t have any family that could help, because my mom had me late in life. She was the best mom!!! When she was finally able to retire she did everything she could to help me and her grandchildren. My brothers didn’t have any children. When I was 40 years old I was diagnosed with Bipolar 1,but I kept going!!! I still am thanks 🙏 to my terrific daughters!!! I’m so blessed, because I was able to homeschool them when the school 🏫 let my oldest daughter down!!! She was able to graduate from college, and my youngest daughter is doing her own things while raising her 3 children. They feel that people their age have no excuses, because they were raised without a father, and I am legally blind and I have a serious mental Health issue. I’m trying to go back to work, because I want my grandchildren to become the best that people can be. I hope someone reads this, and becomes better for it!!! We are able to survive and overcome with God, because he has our back!!! My statement is to be kind, not nice, because nice people catch that disease to please!!! I’m over this disease myself!!! Dana I love 💗 your channel, and please keep up the great 👍 work that you do!!! I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me!!! For y’all that read this, and have things going on,remember that this to shall pass!!! I’m challenging y’all to love 💕 not hate, and don’t let your children get into student debt for college like I did, because they will have a long road to get themselves off of!!!

I have done many no spend months, and i want to do again from January, since I still have some Christmas shopping to do. I realised that I spent a little mindlessly during this Autumn, not much money but i need to go back in truck. In these days I am emptying cabinets and freezer to start fresh the New year, plus there will be a lot of leftovers from festive days. And I am planning to do a good declutter, reorganization and deep clean during my vacation days.

Hi Dana - I started my spending fast at the beginning of December, especially on my tendency to stock up when any organic food is on sale. My "why" is, I want to use up all the food in a chest freezer that needs to get defrosted, cleaned well, and moved out away from the wall so I can (finally!) install the baseboards behind it. By spring, the finish woodwork in my 10' x 19' laundry/mudroom/pantry space will be finished and looking spanky fresh.

Apart from. essential bills and food this month l hope will see my expendable income increase. I have two accounts one for essentials and bills. The other for any spare moneythat gets transferred to my 2nd account.

I finished my christmas shopping in November, and I am actually doing my no spend challenge from dec 1 to dec 20th. the only thing I spent was for gas so far, and the monthly bills that were budgeted for. I did not purchase groceries at all, however, I had to purchase dog and cat food because the lid was left open, so the dogs ate all the cat food. so I actually spent 29.88 for cat and dog food. one of my friends sends us dog and cat treats, so that saved me a mint as well. I also broke my glasses and super glued the frames, and then used my old ones with the broken frame. so I did go to the eye doctor, I spend 181.88 altogether on my new glasses. so, although I didn't succeed completely I did save quite a bit. I am purchasing a ham on the 20th and grocery shopping with my 120 grocery money. Now I did this in December, because in January I am paying off my truck and credit card and was to be completely debt free - then got a bill that wasn't paid by medical insurance and the 3 bills for my furnace, so those are on track to be paid and I will not be debt free by April with those new bills I was not expecting. I haven't yet put all the emergency funds aside, and I do have sinking fund envelopes but they were just started in September and did not have amounts accumulated within them to pay off these unexpected bills. so keeping my fingers crossed, working on the additional expenses and putting my sinking fund envelopes to good use. I will be using a no spend month for February after I pay off the truck and credit card with everything that was saved and budgeted to pay these bills off! then with savings from February I will be putting that all to my debt. We used also freezer diving to use all of the meats, frozen veggies, bread, and freezer meals during this 20 day period.! I still have enough to do a few no spend grocery weeks in the near future as well.
