I’m a self taught golfer with a bad swing who managed to shoot 80’s golf without being able to hit a driver. Friend gave me his R9. Wow. I’ve had this driver since 2011 and can’t imagine changing when for the first time I crush drives and can reach par 5’s with irons. Just found the matching 3 wood on eBay and can’t wait to try it!

Picked up an R9 460cc last week to upgrade from my Wilson Profile Platinum box set driver…big difference! It’s a great driver and inexpensive, around $80. Main reason to buy it was because of the stiff shaft, wanted to try it out before I break the bank on a brand new one. Surprisingly, I don’t think I’ll be picking up another driver for a while. I like it so much, that I bought the R9 3 wood yesterday, mainly because I don’t have one, and it was only $49. TaylorMade might have a customer for life…irons are next! Great review!

Found an R9 on the ‘bay last year. Tried it at the driving range and it immediately went in my bag. Paired with the 70g Motore shaft in S flex, this club is a weapon. When I do my job, it does it’s job and then some. Ball flight is mid to high with plenty of distance. The feel is great, and the sound is not unpleasant.
I would love to see a robot test the R9 against 2021’s greatest drivers to see how it stacks up.
Anecdotally, using my R9 (460cc) I can out drive my buddies with their 2020 model year Ping and Cobra drivers, and they can also outdrive me.
In reality, your swing is 95% of the equation. Or to put it another way, a new 2021/22 model year driver that you dropped $500 on will not drop your handicap from 18 to 9. But some lessons might get you close.

Glad you viewed the 845s irons I found a set and love them but not as much as my McGregor 1925 Duralite hickories. Now my present used driver broke and I located a great looking R9 which I just put in my bag . Will let you know how it likes me if we play on Wednesday. I got a really good deal in the driver only $50.00 . Thanks for this video !

I have tried it now and this is a surprisingly good one, that's for sure. It's beautiful, light, smooooth and forgiving, this driver is a confidence builder and it feels like you have great speed on the club head with this one comparing to several other bulky 460cc drivers. Comparing it to R15 460 which feels slightly heavier, more stiff and slightly more physical to shoot. R15 probably winning in distance (?) when going for it but R9 feeling easier to shoot... only a small difference in distance I guess. Unless you are a single handicap golfer and a true long distance shooter I strongly believe R9 is a really good choice. I truly recommend giving this a shot, it may surprise you. Even if you are a single handicap golfer it's so smooth and forgiving you could use it as a complement together with a more powerful latest development driver. Perfect sound too, every shot sounding awesome. ;-)

TGIF!!! I have the R7 actually my wife got me the R7 from a sports online auction and it is signed by Nick Price. I figured it would never be worth a lot so I played it for a season. Only issue was it is 7.5* loft and an extra stiff shaft. When I connected it was a missile launcher but it just felt like swinging a telephone pole. I think that the R7 might be as jnm4667 said the template. Good vid thanks

Personally, I'd say the original TaylorMade R7 is the template for all modern weight-adjustable drivers. My TM R7 SuperQuad is still in my bag after all these years. Why change what works? At 53 years old, I can still bang it over 270 yards (7 handicap).

Can I change the weight at the side of the head driver?

I still bag a 909 Titleist 3 wood as good as any. Personally think Ping G series drivers are easier to hit well.

I recently finally broke my R9 and got a used M6 driver. One big thing I noticed that really shocked me was, the face is significantly taller on the R9 vs the M6. Which in theory would make it have a bigger sweet spot upward and downward. I wonder why they made that change, I'm guessing aerodynamics and the not quite as tall face on the newer drivers makes it easier to get to higher swing speeds?

Sounds good, I'm not really sure. They also seem to market MOI, maybe pulling material off the face also increases MOI?

This is exactly why I’m interested in going back to some older drivers - R7, R9, Cobra HS9 etc… I want to trial out taller / deeper faces rather than wider.
