As a fat and not conventionally attractive woman, I hate how they slimmed down so many characters and made them more attractive by getting rid of supposed "flaws" like Gustafa's huge nose. Also, they made Muffy/Molly's outfit less revealing and got rid of tattoos, a homeless character, a cigarette, and other such "offensive" content. And everything you said about the male protagonist is so true. He was short and less skinny and he was CUTE.

why does a fictional character have to be made ugly? it's for entertainment. they need to make the characters visually appealing in order to sell well and cater to larger audience.
I'm also ugly as hell but if I want to look at an ugly character, I wouldn't be watching movies or playing games. I would just take a look at a mirror.
Also I dislike muffys redesign! I think they took a lot of features that made Muffy unique and my favorite marriage candidate. Same exact thing with marlin, I miss his mullet!

She still looks great I'm just disappointed bc I thought it made her design unique. Still plan on marrying her cuz I always loved her personality (:
@@elithegaymer sadly I think some of the changes were made because certain things didn't age well. To look at his old art, and thinking back I did think hippy pot user when I saw gustafa as a kid, and I guess they didn't want that to be the case this time around. I'm glad their updating some things that didn't age well, but at the same time that's what made the characters unique, interesting and believable and real as some people are like what we were seeing.
@@enchantingpainter7345 Another reason is the beards/facial hair aren't very popular features in Japan. Same w Takakura's tattoo which isn't as socially accepted in Japan even to this day. The original AWL felt like an artistic team that was allowed to do what they want because it wasn't important and no one cared so they had freedom. Now they have expectations and have to follow more set guidelines than previously imposed. Really makes you feel old when you watch the thing you grew up with change with the times.
I really like most of the characters redesigns, but the animals seem to have more exaggerated features this time around and that really bothers me. I liked the more realistic ones from the original games.
I love most of the upgraded looks, especially the outfits! So much more detailed. I agree with most of your points in the video, especially the changes they made to Takakura, Galen, Vesta, & Gustafa. Nami looks cute but her old outfit is way better! It seems like they should have made her shirt another color besides white. Most of the characters didn't need major changes so I'm glad they didn't change them all up too much. It is mostly the heavily toned down characters I'm having mixed feelings on, and the sheep too to an extent since it seems they are all pink!
i didn't realize they removed takakura's tattoo and now i am sad in other news, i am sad they got rid of (what i thought was) sebastian's iconic nose, which was kind of big and round and made him look like a friendly old guy. now he makes me think that he should be in the professor layton series. i love that series and the art fits here, but it changes how he appears in my head LOL i also don't like gustafa's redesign. i married him in the AWL but now i think, if i marry one of the guys it will probably be matt 🤷♀ i like his new design a lot, though part of me wishes they kept the longer mullet for nostalgic reasons haha. i never found him particularly cute, but thats why when they did DS cute i thought they brought in skye to be the pretty boy (a total missed opportunity here, unless they're keeping a huge secret). marlin and matt feel like different people. (doesn:t help that the name changed haha) also im realllly sad they slimmed down vesta so much. she was such a cheerful and heartwarming character for me and now shes like, a different person image wise. overall, i feel like they got rid of anything 'controversial' from a marketing standpoint... which i GET, but i also don't AGREE with.
Yeah I think the common theme of the bad redesigns is that they made them thinner. Like the big rubber boots for Bertha and the big shoes for the merchant guy.
I feel like the new Gustafa would judge me! The old Gustafa was just a bundle of joy. I even liked just watching him walk/bounce down the street, haha.
Okay this may be an unpopular opinion and thats fine, but I actually loved nearly all the new redesigns for everyone, including the ones that were considered "okay" and "bad". I do miss Murray's homeless look, but am also fond of his new look as Pui. I also miss Gustafa's large wide green hat, but have adjusted to some of the changes. To me, it seems like they kept Vesta's thick figure and I love that since I'm also quite thick built. My only disappointments are the look of the sheep, and the transformation from Cody's cultural native style to Gordy's modern artsy style. I like how they kinda stuck to the skin color, but the overall built and attire changes saddened me. Again, thats my opinion. Nice video. I just finished SOS yesterday and it still got to me.
@@ItsAlannaBanana my parents rented me t.o.t so I only got to play for a week but people say they like the story line better, but animal parade I owned and I loved it so much down to music and the marriage candiates were the absolute best
@@brianna8138 The world in Animal Parade is so big and travelling on foot until you get a horse or cow or such is a pain. That's my biggest gripe with it. I liked the circus in Animal Parade and the music is really good too.
I agree and feel similar about a lot of the characters. Initially I didn't care for Pui but honestly now I kind of love him he's a cute little forest dweller and I am excited to get to know him. Nami I'm really torn cause I am very attached to the original design. For me its the hair and orange shirt that I don't like the change of the most. It's funny cause in RL I actually dress similar and my hair is typically the same color and style as Nami's original design so like there is that.😆 It wasn't ever intentional just happened over time.
I see that your profile picture is getting closer and closer to Nami as well! But yeah, Pui is pretty cute. I am really interested to see what they do with him storyline wise since he is essentially a completely new character.

I hate Marlin's redesign he used to have this old Japanese city tough guy style to him and then they decided to make him look like such a generic tsundere anime boy with an even more generic name
… You can kind of see them in the book next to your bed. You can see the different villagers that you’ve met. But yeah, they don’t appear when speaking to the villagers…

Can't believe Gustafa got ranked as bad. The only good bachelor redesign imo. Cody was definitely worse. Also lol at you saying Grody instead of Gordy. Very fitting for my redesign thoughts. 😂

I like the majority of the redesigns, only ones I'm not the biggest fans of are for the Horse, it just looks weird to me and lifeless, I feel like the original had way more personality. I also am not the biggest fan of the chickens and sheeps not that they're bad not at all they're adorable but I kinda wish they went for the more realistic approach for them. I also wish they made Gordy a new character maybe he could've been a younger brother or nephew to the original Cody. I liked that the original had all shapes and sizes for people and in the remake they all kinda share a similar shaped skeleton. Also miss the original Moi/Murray I'm guessing they changed his appearance from a homeless man to more of a hermit look to be less offensive but still, I liked the original and he doesn't even make his signature "moi" sound anymore. I also agree I wish Takakura kept his tattoo and he doesn't look as old in the original, even in year one it looked like he was already graying, and in the remake he just has a shine to his hair. They had the oppertunity to do something cool with Gary and the cigarette like they could've had him give up smoking after Nina dies, could've been a cool little detail. Also don't like Gustafa I wish he kept his brushy beard and the weird hat lol. and very minor nitpick but I wish the glvoes had the original red accents to them, lol.

I would put all but Cody/Gordy in the Great category. I wish that they kept more of Cody's build for Gordy. I'd put him in the Good category.

So many people complain about the horse! It really doesn’t bother me that much though, haha.
