My reasons for using DVDs again: 1) No ads 2) They can't remove them from my collection whenever they please. 3) They're mine, and I can lend them out freely. 4) If the internet goes down, my DVDs still work. 5) No auto-play "Watch next" previews. 6) Bloopers and special features/deleted scenes. 7) No logins or passwords to remember/locate.
I think Blu-ray is superior in most ways. The only real advantage I can see with DVD is that they can play with free software on a PC (even commercial ones). Blu-ray you have to get a commercial software to play them, or decrypt them/rip them first.
I have gone back to physical media because I could not find the music I wanted and streaming services could never figure out what I wanted to listen to anyways. I still had my old iPod from back in 2008 and it has been wonderful to get back into listening to exactly what I want to.
straight off the bat - the only thing i would recommend as an improvement for this video would be to use a dedicated microphone going forward - the built in one ain't cutting it far too echoey; propping up your iPhone upside down just in front of you on the desk would be a vast improvement other than that - editing looks good, the framing and setup in the back looks great - this looks to be some good work ✌
So, I actually am using a Rode shotgun mic. I need to figure out how to get it closer to my mouth to make the sound better. For this video the sensitivity was too high which is why it sounded echoey I think. Thanks for the feedback, I was thinking the audio needed some work so I’ll look at that straight away
Happy owner of an iPod Nano and Walkman, as I don't like streaming services and I think it just eats up too much battery on my phone, so thats one reason why I prefer using a dedicated Audio player.
I still use my Sony Walkman NW-A55 since 2017. Its not just Ipods. You actually don't really need to find really old Ipod just find ones that is still making audio players like Sony, Fiio and HyBy.
iPods also go hand-in-hand with the right to repair movement (at least with the Classic and Mini models anyway), there's a huge community of tech enthusiasts who open up their iPods and either repair or even upgrade them past their original limits. Because iPods are a mature and well-understood technology, there is plenty of documentation available as well as custom parts to do this and anyone with the right tools can get into them, which is not something that can be said with the likes of modern smartphones. Not only do you own your music, you own your hardware too!
I still download MP3s, I use streaming services more for discovery than as a replacement for local music. My sister gave me her old iPod(which I gave to her years ago), and I've considered modding it with flash memory, bluetooth, wireless charging, USB-C... but then I'd still have to deal with iTunes, and I don't want to subject myself to such masochism. I wonder if Rockbox is still a thing?
I've been daily driving iPods for about a year now, and I absolutely love these things. The retro look, the music ownership, the intentionality, the fact that no one else can pause your music for you; I love using these things
still use iPod Classic , upgraded the hdd to sd-card, new battery all good to go . It's very convenient , for the car , gym , etc, its just a music device , and not a smartphone, you focus better.
@@OllieSach Pretty easy , there is something called iFlash , an adapter to sd card , you perform a reset with iTunes , or 3utools , and its memory becames readable instantly . There are many parts on eBay such cases , batteries , and sd card converters
There are apps that let you play your own music from a folder on your iPhone. That way I always have a selection of albums with me. They’re mine and can’t be removed by a streaming service. I don’t think I’m ready to go back to an iPod. Although at this point the only thing keeping me on this device are the nice cameras. Maybe one day I’ll go back to a feature phone. 🤔
Great vid.. Any advice on using ipod classic with Bluetooth cans. Are there any potable amps that have Bluetooth output to headphone.. Any help would be appreciated
Pro tip for everyone who wants to get an iPod and not spend a lot on music, get a laptop or any computer with iTunes a disc reader for the computer if it doesn’t have one anda library card, borrow music cds from the library and import them to iTunes then return the cds after the music is safe in your iPod, same with audiobooks
I have an ipod shuffle that I just charged up, but when I tried to add music to it, I found that the ipod does not show up on my desktop. I am using OS Monterey 12.7.6. Have I just forgotten how to use an ipod, or is this system incompatible with ipods? Thanks.
I'm using it to save battery life on my phone. When I'm at the gym I already own all my fav songs on my ipod and I don't need to subscribe monthly to anything.
@OllieSach well I have Shazam on my phone if I hear something I like. I listen to music daily and also you can have spotify or apple music on an ipod too. It's just my main music device.
i purchased ipod Classic 7th Gen 512 GB. I love ipod, i wanted a device for music and this is it. However it is quite thin that the ipod shown in this video. Hey man, which version of ipod is that. I wanted a thicker one and i m thinking its the 6th Gen, ya! Nice video. Moving into next video.
@@bepatience80 I think it was originally either 80gb 6th or 120gb 7th. I think the 160gb thick was 6th gen, while the other two models were the thinner ones.
I never subscribe to the streaming music services as I believe in owning music I buy. As a result I buy music CDs audiobooks and feed the iPod. I actually have a variety of iPods via getting them at bootsales, from nanos, to mini, to 4th & 5th gen, 6th & 7th gen classics and just recently I got my first iPod touch a 4th gen for a bargain £10. I’m planing on upgrading some with larger battery capacity and hd at some point in the near future
I have that ipod white stick and that audio is sooooo much better and ipod touch ☺️☺️ when comes to music apple is better audio quality is top notch no meed equalizer etc
The con is you need to download musik need to sort it and you need to keep it uptodate when you like hearing new music but its offline no ads that anyone you so you Dont need to wory about that
i went from using spotify to using itunes and my ipod touch 2g that DOESNT CONNECT TO THE SHITTING ITUNES STORE!!!! which means that every time i buy a song i have to SYNC UP my BLOODY 2008 ipod to my ITUNES FUCKING 12!
i use an ipod nano daily for running. nothing can beat it for me and i do not want to buy a smartwatch that will work worse. Plus ipod's UI is so fucking good considering that the device is a tiny aluminium square.
I would think it would be cool to use too although the only think I’m thinking of is just how much expense I’ll have to put out to just get one album. For me I know and love over one thousand albums and twice as much for artist and IPods just wouldn’t be able to fit how much I enjoy in my daily life. And being born in 2000 I do in fact remember using those kinds of devices although I didn’t have a working iPod I had a what was called and IRiver and it was just as good for me at the time.
Hey Ben! I am actually working on a video that addresses a lot of what you're talking about! Will be out at the end of the month, but your comment has really helped fuel some thoughts! Cheers!

Yeah, I always want to have Blu-Rays for this exact reason. Those streaming services are so much more frustrating than music streaming tbh
I think Blu-ray is superior in most ways. The only real advantage I can see with DVD is that they can play with free software on a PC (even commercial ones). Blu-ray you have to get a commercial software to play them, or decrypt them/rip them first.
if you still want to use them like a streaming service (aka access them whenever) you should rip the dvds
I have gone back to physical media because I could not find the music I wanted and streaming services could never figure out what I wanted to listen to anyways. I still had my old iPod from back in 2008 and it has been wonderful to get back into listening to exactly what I want to.
I love that! How did you discover new music before the iPod and how has that changed now?

@@OllieSach Try using something like a gate/expander + something like Auburn Sounds Lens to get a tighter dictation style.
I've still got my 1st Gen FiiO X1 and I think it is better because it doesn't require iTunes, accepts other file formats than AIFF/ALAC/AAC.
Never heard of it! Weirdly I blanked that there were any other mp3 players other than iPods lol 😅

That is awesome. I am trying the same thing this month, only listening to music from the iPod! Let’s see how it goes!
Walkman user for years
@@Lofton39 I've been using Walkman or iPod for years as they are the only good music players imo.

I just found one of my old IPods and can't remember what I had on it. I currently have it charging and I am hoping it takes a charge.
Oh awesome! Let me know what you find if it works!
Even if it doens't, getting a new battery for it is easy, cheap, and (relatively assuming it's a 6th/7th gen classic) easy to do.

I have an android mp3 player with a headphones jack

It should also be mentioned that (as long as you are using 320 kbps mp3s), the audio quality on an Ipod is often better, thanks to the Wolfson DAC
