    Great tips. Been using Pro Tools SE, thinking about making the switch to Reaper. Love that noise reduction trick.

    which theme in Reaper are you using?

    Mate, the advice you are giving is perfectly good. Just one little point you may not be aware of...Your own audio recording of this episode is popping slightly on all the "p's" and "k's" etc.. You may want to add an additional pop screen? A good example is at 6:46 "I've got a session of Reaper oPen..." < Check the pop on the "P"? I'm listening in my control room with fresh ears and a professional set-up, so I'm definitely not imagining it.Just thought you should know. Nice Series though, keep it up!

    Great video, thanks - gonna try this on my behringer as well as mackie interfaces :)
    does the same apply for ADA8000
    .A nice trick I've learned in reaper to enhance small sound differences visually is shift-arrow up. It pumps up the waveform without having to normalise the track

      Thanks for the comment, any time I do choose to normalize, I'm more concerned about and exact peak db than just a bit more waveform gain. Your tip though is great for just boasting the wav faster but reaper does the same processing of the file as it does when you select normalize (not bad if you need to), its just increasing the gain of the wav by a different value when you do so manually like you've described.

    David, I tried this with an M-Audio M-Track, and can see/hear the 3 stages once I normalize the signal to -1db. When the 3rd stage kicks in at @ 3 o'clock, there's a big surge, like the 2i2 above. I know you have the M-Track. Wondering if there's a way to test the two against each other to see if there's much difference. I'm thinking as long as I keep the gain at not more than @2 o'clock, the M-Track will do fine.

      Hey Bruce, I'm out of town on work so I can't do this test for you just yet. But I will say that your findings are correct. Also I record the podcast with the M-track taking the feed from the 2i2. So the audio from my mic in this video was tracked from the M-track. The M-track is a great audio interface for the money. The only other thing to consider is the 2i2 does a slightly better job at keeping the noise floor under the source signal than the M-track does. This is the signal to noise ratio measurement. The 2i2 snr is 100db above the noise floor, the M-track is 96db. However, either one is a great interface for the money.

    Very cool. I just tried on my M-Audio Firewire 410 and the noise floor really kicks in at 65-70%. And, the Line Inputs are much more noisey that the pre-amps. Makes sense, but good to know. I was recording the unbalanced output of my Korg microStation into the Line Inputs on the FW410 and it just didn't sound right. Now I know why.

    I have just started using Reaper (to be able to use my PC for recording instead of borrowing my mum's iMac) but I have already got som problems with it. When recording with the iMac and Garage band I had no problems at all but when I record onto Reaper with the exact same setup (Shure mic - Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 - DAW) i get sort of digital popping sounds all over the track. Do you know what this might be and how I can solve it? I have tried changing all the cables and such and I know that the gear works (because it worked with the mac) so it.must have something to do with the software. The interface driver is updated and my computer has more than enough prestanda for this to work, but it doesn't... Maybe the built in Beats soundcard is doing something that interfere with the focusrite and somehow creates this popping sound. If that is so how can I fix it? Thank you in advance! I really hope you can help me with this...

    Thanks :-) a lot of noise can be eliminated, nice. But how do you bring it up to a useful level? normalizing, gain, compressor, or ?o< mette

      No need for audio samples as there are many other elements that can affect quality and I don't own every one of these interfaces either ;). Just get the 2i4. It's very clean and is the interface I currently record with.

      Thank you!! Your videos are soo helpful!! Thanks soo much!! Could you possibly do a video in-depth on the scarlett 2i2?

      Paul Raymond Thanks Paul. I do talk about the 2i2 quite a bit in Ep 18. What other questions do you have about the interface?

    • @skaterboy1542
      @skaterboy1542 10 лет назад

      ***** I would just like to know the ins and outs and how to use that interface specifically for recording. How to get the best preformence out of that interface. Id say just how to get the absolute best out of it. Cause the scarett 2i2 Is pretty much top of the line for the money. Not only for me but any home music producer would have questions kinda like mine.

    Is this a new mic??

    • @Homemusicstudio1
      @Homemusicstudio1  10 лет назад

      This is not a new mic to me Paul, but new to using it on the show. I'm using a AKG A-51, its the type III older model large diaphragm condenser. The foam guard was made for an SM58 so I'm improvising a bit here ;).
