    I own the 2016 VTI-L. It is an excellent car. The build quality on this is even better than a newer version Hyundai(my other car). I still use this to haul the family on road trips and I really enjoy driving it. I find the handling better than a Toyota(my previous car). It has a lot of little features that still impress me like how the keys are connected to the seat settings, so if you enter the car with the key, the seat will automatically adjust to your setting. GENIUS!!

    The water leaks tend to be due to the inner door membrane & sealant unsealing, which is also a thing with the civic, jazz & hrv... typically found when people park their cars on the street under trees etc and the door drain plugs become clogged with dirt & debris... when it rains heavily & the doors don't drain correctly due to the clog, that water pressure then wants to find a weak point, and that sealant becomes an escape route... into the car.
    Don't neglect the 10k services, trans & diff fluid changes, DO NOT use anything other than genuine honda fluid for your rear diff, they're extremely particular with diff fluid, people use generic oils and the diffs turn into a shuddering mess, and you'll need to flush it 3-4 times before refilling it with proper fluid which will cost you way more than refilling it properly in the first place.
    If you don't do oil changes every 10k you'll get sludge build up and need to do a sludge treatment flush, similar with rav4's and toyota's older 2.4L motors, and do a throttle body clean every 50k to help with carbon build up issues with the intake & sensors.
    And don't use bloody E10... long term it rusts fuel pump assemblies, so the money you saved on cheaper fuel just turned into a much bigger expense replacing fueling components.
    Long Live the K24 King!
    😅

    Adam once again a great review, love watching Redriven.
    Although I do wish you would stop talking about the amount of Kilometers if it is under 120,000 wear & tear should not be a factor at all. if a car with under 120,000 is showing major wear & tear then it has either been thrashed to death of its a complete heap of crap. I am a mechanic in Melbourne and I have many customers who have high ks and their cars are in Mint condition.
    modern cars can do high Ks if maintained.

    • @anakinskywalker4113

      @@ReDriven The amount of Ks really shouldn’t be an issue. The biggest issue I come across is how well does this person look after their car. Do they clean it regularly, is it parked under a tree where sticky goo gets on the paint, Are the wheels scratched from hitting the curb etc. high Ks if well cared for may be a better buy than lower Ks but worse condition. It is all about the condition of the car not necessarily how many Ks. If the service records are up to date plus/minus 6mths that always helps.

    Very interesting tips. I'm seriously looking at downgrading to a 2016 or there abouts CR-V VTI-L and found this video to be very informative. I'm downgrading from a Ford Territory SZ titanium and the big Barra 4Litre is just getting to thirsty and expensive to run so it looks like the CR-V will be my next car.

      @@y8318 HI there. Yes I did buy a CRV. I got a 2016 CR-V VTI-L with the 2.4L engine and I absolutely love it. I've owned it just on 12 months now and honestly wish I bought one much sooner. Ok I do admit I miss the Territory with its much larger carrying capacity and 6cyl power but the CR-V is such a fun thing to drive. I did test drive a 2013 model with a 2L engine and also a 2018 with the 1.5L turbo and for me personally I just found the 2.4L a much better performing engine. With the 2.4L you don't have to thrash it to get the car going in fact I've never needed more than 4000 RPM to get it up to speed quickly whereas the 1.5L turbo you need to scream it's nuts off to get it going. I got a 3 year dealer warranty with it and to be honest I don't think I'm ever going to need it. It's been such a great reliable car. But my advice Don't buy a Territory today. No one will tell you this but you simply can't buy parts for them anymore. They were a great car in there day and they still are but keeping them on the road is getting harder as the years roll by.

I went for the 2017 rav4 gx 4x4, due to the engine and transmission combo, and the ac compressor problems of the crv turned me off (freightened of expensive repairs). The soy-based wirings seemed risky as well. I really like the opening of the crv’s rear doors though, always clever packaging from honda.

    Incredible options on this base model - leather seats, coupled with paddle shifters on a PVC steering! Sister in law had a base model VTi - a bit too plasticky inside for me and can’t say I enjoyed the somewhat asthmatic 2.0L, but in the burbs they are admittedly adequate. But pretty good interior space wise which can’t be said for many SUV’s because their space efficiency simply doesn’t compare to the old style wagon.

    • @satya.anandakrishnan
      @satya.anandakrishnan Год назад +2

      Yup. Also a base model VTi here. The 2.0L is so slow but that does mean it is somewhat efficient (7.5Lish / 100km is good for a car this big). The space inside is also spartan but very cleverly thought out. The doors open wide and the seats fold to a cavernous space. Really massive inside. Its also been with us for 10 years now and been problem free (which yeah should be expected but is still a great feat). In terms of looks, its no Alfa Romeo but ours is a nice black so when you park it at night in a lit up CBD parking spot it looks rather nice. Does what it says on the packaging!

      @@satya.anandakrishnan I have the 2.0L manual and routinely get 6.5L/100km on long rural motorway trips, 7.5 in general country driving and 8.5 in the city. While I would like more power, I find it adequate. No doubt it helps that I can be in the correct gear ahead of time and I have 6 of them. The auto only had 5, and on my test drive the kickdown was terribly laggy. That, and the horrid foot-operated parking brake in the auto, was why I didn't get the 2.4L all wheel drive, even though I had a valid use for AWD. (The manual 4th gen has a traditional handbrake lever between the seats.)

Yes a bit underpowered (sport mode does help) handling and suspension was good compared to the others in class in our view, cx5 is more dynamic but a lot smaller. I have no regrets buying this. Only issues after 10 years is the paint peeling on the bonnet and a couple of interior light switches which are temperamental.

    My biggest criticism of this model is the infotainment system. It’s not quite up to par for the year but that’s not a deal breaker for most folks.

    Checked it while searching for my family, but decided to go with the Kia Sportage instead. Did not like the small diesel engine (1.6 with two turbos), the old infotainment and the lack of some premium options (ventilated seats, awd lock, opening panoramic roof, etc)
    But good enough SUV nonetheless

    I think it's a bland, but very practical grocery getter. Personally, I'd rather buy a wagon. I say bring back the wagon so less people have to buy these soccer mum mobiles!

    When these were new, I wanted to like it, went to buy the 4wd diesel here in the UK. In real life it was even uglier than on the web but after test drive ended up going back to KIA and buying Sorrento. Sadly, this Honda isn't only dull too look at, but all the seats are uncomfortable and worse yet the ride quality is one of the worst in the category. But still, not a bad choice imho.

    No mention of the fading external plastics around the whole base of the car?

    • @dalesmith4985
      @dalesmith4985 Год назад +2

      Modern SUV's of many manufactures have plastic cladding all around the outside and as they age the plastics will degrade especially here in our Australian climate and hot summers. they need plastic restorer creams from auto store's to rejuvenate them. and prevent from fading

    Can someone clear this up for me. Jim said that the transmission should be serviced every 40000k but the manual book recommends every 120000k. I have the same 2015 CR-V with 62.000kms on it and found that the transmission isn't the smoothest when it shift. Should I get it serviced

    Hey mate I'm the 2005 caldina guy who bought the q50s hybrid , but 7 years ago I bought the 2.4 crv vti s , the boot space was bigger than the rav 4 and the cabin feel , felt nicer and it was 7k cheaper , than the mid range rav 4 , the only problem, but makes a huge difference the drivers seat , is shit , terrible and it uses 13.5 liters , In saying that 2015 model my wife has got 36k on the clock, had to replace the cv joints, a grand ,rewind time I would pick rav 4 , purely on seats

    I seem to be the only one who lost all audio at about 24 seconds in to the video on Apple TV. Mind you, now that I’m on my iPad with it playing whilst typing this, I have perfect audio. Go figure. Apple TV decided the CRV wasn’t interesting enough? Hmmm

    I very, very nearly bought a current gen (2021) model; but for anyone looking at that generation of 2017 or later, be very cautious of the 1.5 Turbo Honda engines, also found in a few other models like the Civic. They are known for potentially severe oil dilution due to a design flaw and even have a class-action lawsuit in process in the US. You might get one that isn't affected but they will all do it to some degree and detract from the lifespan. Just in case anyone was watching this with current gen CR-V in mind! It's a shame because they look great

      Problem traced to poor quality rings. Fixed in 2017/2018 onwards. Easily solved by draining some of the diluted oil and topping up with new.

      I heard the problem was for cars in very cold climates. It's not a problem here in Australia as we don't get very cold or snow.

      Recently bought a 14 Pro purely for this. The video capabilities are incredible. Plus the fact we can shoot photos and video with one device makes life a lot easier.
      We used to use all manner of cinema cameras and Canon stills cameras, tripods, sliders etc, but now our whole kit can fit in a backpack. Plus, our shoot times were cut in half, so we can shoot twice as much in a day.
