2004 Odyssey Cabin Air Filter Replacement -EricTheCarGuy
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 10 окт 2013
- This video walks you through the process of replacing the cabin air filter on a 2004 Odyssey. To be honest, you could probably use this for Odysseys dating back to 2000. It also applies to the Acura MDX, Ridgline, and Pilot of the same vintage. If you have this service done it can set you back a few bucks. If you do it yourself, you can save yourself quite a bit and you'll know that the job was done right. I hope this video helps you if you decide to go that rout. Strangely, I don't have any extra links for you for this video aside from the usual social network stuff. Enjoy the video!

Thanks Eric for the video, I did the job and it went pretty well following your advice. I would only add that you do not need to unscrew completely the bolt on the left under the plastic (6:41 to 7:17 in the video). I had problems putting back the screw after changing the air filter and when I did the job again on another car, I just lose the bolt so that the metal bar can go down and I was able to change the filter without removing that screw completely. It saves a bit of time. Have a good one!
This is 2021 and my van is a 2004. 17 years old. Molding plastic was still in place. Plenty of room for jigsaw. Filter was BLACK. Imagine that. Only one screw near radio required a little patience.
Thanks for the video.
Hi eric wanted to thank you a lot for that small detail you gave at 2:49
Few months ago i got myself this very same model and couldnt listen to the radio at all, the battery was previously removed and with that the radio couldnt be of any use without an unlocking code and didnt know what to do. So i tried what you said in the video and it surprisingly worked! Now i can hear my favorite rock songs, man! Came looking for copper and i found gold, thanks!
Even in these short & simple videos I ALWAYS learn something new.
Thank you for a great video, I just replaced the cabin filter in our family van with the help of your video. Feeling like a pretty accomplished Mom!
Bonus -- Radio code! Thank you. Replaced the battery and radio never came back. Now I can fix it.
a tip for you, you can, instead of removing that last 8mm bolt on the steel bar, just loosen and swing bar downward to clear CAF
Eric thanks for this one. My 2002 with 270,000+ miles has not been modified. I have learned yet another great tip from Eric the car Guy.
You dont need to fully remove the steel guard.
Having removed the right side screws, I just pop the guard up, pivoting off the left most hard to reach screw. I pop the guard up and over the right side plastic fuse cover/wall/carpet pieces, then pivot the guard down to where its just out of the way of the cabin filter cover.
Remove filter cover, vacuum, install fresh filter, recover, tilt guard back up over the plastic wall bits till its back into position and reattach all screws. Just remove the right side and it saves a lot of frustration.
You make repairs for my dads cars so easy. Your AMAZING keep it up
Best camera work on those tight spaces! Thanks so much. Dealer wanted 89.99 to replace this for my 2002 Odyssey!! Yikes! I did it in 15 minutes, thanks to your video!
Wonderful video! I got the job done - never did it before and never want to do it again. The old filter was filthy and there was a ton of debris in the filter slot. Had to attach a piece of hose to my shop vac to vacuum clear back in the slot.
Someone must have changed the filter at least once years agi , because the plastic part had already been chopped (hacked) out.
I have an 04 Oddessy. Thought about replacing the filter. This video is perfect because I know now what all to expect. Glad I found your channel Eric! Awesome videos and explanations. Could you do a video for the oddessy's rear windows not opening and closing? Something with the little motors. Stay dirty!!
I always check your videos first for repairs! You do a great job!!
Thanks for the video! I changed this filter once before (2019) and had forgotten what a pain it was to get to.
Just wanted to say that I appreciate what you do and thank you!
Thanx for helping me keep my 2001 Space Odyssey smelling great ! Great tips on the small details !!
Looks like today some cabin air filters will be replaced on the vehicles outside, thank you for the video
Awesome video sir!! Been watching you for years. Just now subscribing 🤦🏾🤦🏾 I’m new to this social media stuff. So now I have to go back through and like and comment on all the videos. Thank you so all your hard work. You’re always my go to for everything! Thank you sir!!!!!
Great video! I need to do this on my 2004 in the next several days, now I know what to look out for. Thank you.
Interesting! I purchased a 2008 Jeep Compass, (used of course) and had plans on cabin filter replacement. But when I saw this video and how dirty the filter was, I'm thinking that I'd better replace it sooner than later! Thanks again Eric!!
Thank you Eric, woulda been frustrating without you
That filter looks like new in this part of the world (Finland) here at least where i works its in every year service and ohboy are they full of woods stuff. Makes every customers eyes pop when we show them, what they where breatheing when they drive in.
Honda makes a lot of things hard.
I knew a girl like that.......😅
This video was very helpful because I have a 03 Honda Odyssey thank you ECTG 1 !!!! Keep the video coming the love fairmont project
This video gave me an idea for an ETCG1 episode. On some cars these "simple" tasks turn out to be not so simple. For example on some Renaults you have to jack the car up and remove the front wheel to change high/low beam bulbs.
It would be interesting to hear from you about this topic, Eric.
What is the dealership procedure of replacing this filter on Odyssey? Remove the entire dash? Cut it up and admit the poor not user friendly engineering?
The way Eric replaced the filter is the dealership procedure. The factory manual will tell you to cut that plastic bar. They leave it up to you as to how you want to cut it.
eric you are my HERO my new 04 ody needs repairs and your walikng me through it thank you sir
thanks for the tip on the radio code!
Suggestions for removing the screw on the right that secures the metal bar when it is stripped ? Tried one of those screw removal tools for the drill (grabit) with no success. Someone had replaced my air filter in the past and managed to help me out this way.
nicely detailed!! did it in 20 min
Easyest cabinfilters to change that i have found is Peugeot 206 and Ford Transit ~2010
It takes like 3 sec if you have one in your hand already. so its in service and if you have changed it (or anything else) your self, PLZ tell it to your chop when you bring it to service.
yup at 3:21..... I was replacing a cabin air filter on a chevy Aveo and didn't have to cut the plastic off, cause it was really pliable... I bet given another year or two I would have to cut the plastic off...
That looks like a lot of work for cabin air filter. I had to change mine on Buick Lesabre every year as it would get dirty quickly. When I let it go for over a year I found a spider web on it which was a good indication that it needs to be replaced. Easiest filter change was on Kia Sorento. I think you can do that in under 2 minutes with no tools at all.
There is no cabin air filter in that vehicle. I've written about how to handle that odor in the HVAC article on my website.
I'm so glad they made this easier in the 2005 model.
Thanks for the video, very helpful. Honda, you stink for making this such a pain to replace!!
so would it hurt anything to remove the metal bar that is behind the plastic bar that you cut out? It doesn't seem to be doing anything either really...
This 2004 Odyssey is amazingly more complicated than for the two later models, of which I watched videos in case I couldn't find this one. Who thinks of solutions to these puzzles?
Great vid, suggestion you dont have to remove the glovebox stoppers. The glove box will come out with the stoppers when removing the hinges
And removing the pass sill and kickpanel helps
We've got an 01 Olds. Minivan. To get to the cabin air filter there is a door inside the glove box that you remove and reach in for the filters. The fact that replacing a filter takes so much work boggles my mind!!! They really should have made it simpler.
For a vehicle like my 1991 Honda Accord, whose Cabin Air Filter is a challenge to access, are there other alternatives, like maybe spraying Lysol into the fresh air vent to possibly kill some of the "funny" odor coming from the air vent?
Water is the bane of paper filters. Putting it there means the filter most likely won't get water saturated like they can become if located in the cowl.
Nice video Eric, but one thing, you seem down or not as cheerful as usual =/ Hope all is well =)
Thanks just changed the cabin air filter and it was filthy😬 . The only thing that made it easier for me was the bar to just loosen the right side & slide it down .
Man Eric, I need to get into video making, this is a far cry from engine change outs.lol
Indeed, but it's not as easy as you might think.
If there's no cabin filter, is there a n evaporator? And if so, are you going to have a video on how to remove an evaporator and how to clean it?
Great going to try this today. My AC stinks hopefully this works :)
Nice, I did it, thanks for the video.
Oh yeah, like you I do whatever rolls into the shop.
You don't need to completely remove the bolt you used the gear wrench on. Loosen a few turns and you can pivot the truss down clockwise from the right side.
Erik I need you to do a engine rod knock video and how to replace bearings.
Eric looking for help with a 2000 Saturn passlock security no start issue. Car has new battery and starter. Found out that GM has trouble with older cars with the passlock and Vat security systems. What's the best repair or bypass for this no start issue.
Hi Eric, have you done a video on how the pcv valve works and why its important?
Thanks for the uploads :)
does the amount of air change when you change the settings? if so it probably is the cabin air filter. if not it could be the blower motor or the switch for the blower motor/bad ground
you stay fixing these odysseys lol good video!!
This applies to the 1999-2004 Odyssey. Yeah... by default, they have that bar from the factory and it does need to be cut.
completely unrelated to the video but: ok, so whenever I come to a stop my rpm's on my Silverado drop really low and wants to die out...sometimes it does. what could be going on? also to narrow down any possiblities: I had driven across a road with water going across and I had to kick it to not get stuck, and then after that I had changed my starter. im pretty sure I changed my starter correctly, but could the water have possibly did anything to my sensors...or is it something else screwing up.
if my a/c does NOT blow the air very hard on 1,2,3 and 4 settings does that mean i should replace my cabin air filter or is that just a Ford Focus LS LX thing?
I did this on my pilot or the first time last year as well as this year also, you have to cut off the plastic bar in front of the screws. Not really sure why they do that
and thanks for the great videos Eric! been watching for years now :)
Thanks so much for this video
I changed my filter on my own LOL yay!!!
Once the old cabin filter is tossed in the trash, is there really any reason to put a new one in? No harm in leaving it empty.
Always wondered where that was. Thanks.
friend. do you have more videos for Honda Odyssey 2003 2003 2004. ???
Great Job!
Your awesome! Thank you!
Did you ever have a blower motor problem
Can you make a video how to change muffler at home with clamps not welfing?
Can you pull the heater core from there as well
ls this Cabin Air Filter replacement the same for the 2005-2010 Odyssey models as well?
well it sure wasn't water that was bumper deep. more like just touching the rim. but that sure is a possibility that I cannot rule out until I get it checked out
Not just Honda. On the Mazda RX-8 you need to remove the whole bumper to replace foglights, remove the driver's side front wheel and splash guard to change your spark plugs and don't even get me started on changing the damn ignition coils.
Great job ! Very well done thx
go cheap to expensive. cabin air filters are service items, so eventually it will need replacement. Change it now and while changing it vacuum out where the filter goes in and if the blower motor is in view, check it for obstructions or for unusual wear.
Same procedure for 1st Gen Pilots
This video is yet another proof that Honda engineers are pretty good at engine design but not peripherals.
can i spray paint my tires for different color
Why does the cabin filter "need" a heavy duty steel truss to "protect" it??
Why have they made it not serviceable without modification?
Wish it was this easy on a 98-02 accord and my 2001 maxima
On my car(2010 honda civic hatch) i need to remove the inner wheel well cover to change the blinker bulbs.
Don’t feel too bad about that. In the wifey’s 2008 VW Touareg you have to remove the front seat to access the battery...!?
yes it does but not much
I replaced a cabin air filter last week on a 2004 MDX with 90k miles and that metal cross bar was riveted in place. Not a fun job.
Wow I thought changing the cabin filters in nissans was tough, this is much more difficult LOL
does my 97 civic lx have a cabin air filter
Who the heck thought that it would be good idea to put the filter behind glove box, with my previous car all I had to do was to open the bonnet and then open plastic cover under the windscreen and there it was, no need for any tools other than my bare hands. Besides isn't it more efficient that filter is located where air is sucked in and not in the middle of the line so that dirt gets everywhere
Good stuff!
Why is it so difficult to get to a filter
Looks like an aftermarket Denso blower motor
Talk about overly complicated. On my Scion tC, you just push the sides of the glovebox in to make the tabs clear the stops so that it swings down a little lower, unclip the damper so it goes down even further, and then you have direct access to the filter, which just slides out. It's a 30-second job and you don't have to unbolt or cut anything.
I hate replacing cabin filters in some cars, they can be such a pain.
I have a 2013 Honda Civic and it is simple compared to this you just pop the sides of the glove box out reach back open the air filter cover take out the old one put in the new one Snapit back and flip the glove box back up and pop into place done in five minutes - whoever designed this on the Odyssey must have been drunk LOL
Being an owner of one I really do wonder that sometimes hahaha!
Yeah, the 2001 Civic is easy! The hard part is getting all the stuff out of the glove box. The odessey is ridiculous. Not as ridiculous as the 2000 Subaru. That is a puzzle.
What a complete PITA compared to other vehicles! Looks like it was designed to make money for the Honda service department...
Why do every car manufacturer make this so complicated?
cool vid thumbs up
why honda? why make it so hard?
Try Acura ! Harder and more $$.$$ !!
Real mechanics wear what they want. Real mechanics don't criticize others for wearing gloves. Real mechanics respect others.
I just love doing these on a smoker's vehicle. There is nothing better.
