How to Convert a JPG, PNG image to an editable Ai vector image illustration??? - Image Tracing
In this video tutorial, I will discuss the fundamental difference between raster and vector. Vector graphics or images have a lot of advantages over raster. No matter how much you zoom in to the image, it will never get pixelated because vector images are defined by the mathematical formula, unlike raster which is comprised of pixel information. Besides, vector images can be very easily altered and edited. Not only you can change the color of the image but also a raster sketch can be converted to a vector and colored very easily.
Raster images are usually in the format of JPG or JPEG, BITMAP or PNG which we eventually convert to AI, EPS or SVG. It's important to note that SVG is not supported by most versions of Photoshop and hence you must always save vector image in AI file format after conversion.

But you cant do this with all images like images having too much detail like hairs, fur,etc or images having too low quality. We can only trace images having clear shapes...guys im telling you with my 4 yrs of experience that these shortcuts will make you handicap in designing..this can help little, but never depend too much on these shortcuts...try to master pen tool and brushes.
Thank you. I've found that myself. I understand that these "how to" tutorials are aimed at beginners, but I'm sick of seeing results a 3 year old could do in 'Word'. "Here's a Circle...Here's the Fill Tool...Change the colour of the Circle..."

i was trying to do it on a logo but the logo had different colors that cannot be selected by image trace. so i had to import it to lightroom and black n white the whole thing. and imported to ai
, worked perfectly xD

Nice tutorial with the various ways to convert Jpegs to vector, but the third one ends up with a pretty wonky looking logo. The edges are wobbly and are not as faithful to the way the BK mark should be; plus the 'R' you placed to replace the ® mark is not done accurately. It looks wimpy and small within the circle. ;). The first one is the best. Thanks!

@@amans6504 At first ignore white. Than extract. thirdly make a shape over the design. Then go to pathfinder and click minus option. Done.
@@infographicstudio760 i really don't get that. Let me explain when i click image trace, few parts of image gets the black colour, rest other parts invisible(the light coloured part of image). Please explain step wise what i have to do now.

I did the 3rd option to vector a logo that has texts In it and the texts come out looking pretty smushed. Is there a way to keep all the edges nice and sharp/straight?
I have the dumbest problem. I can't find a way for my program to show the upper toolbar. Do you know how I can do it?
go to window> images Trace. Then you will find this option.

@@TheOddestThing in the right corner of the illustrator window, besides the search box there is written "Essential classic" change it to "essential" or vice versa and then try again u will definitely get the option.

These images is only 2 or 3 colors, how about an image that is complex and has multiple gradient colors to it?

Hey man i wanna ask something, there is a vector in my AI, then i pressed ctrl+y to make it's outline and now i want to export the outline only, but i when i export that vector, whole logo get exported, i want only the outline model of the vector as jpg, how to do that?
you can not export outline logo. There are a way for that, firstly you can make stock your whole logo than your can export it. hope you will get same logo as outline. Thanks.
@@infographicstudio760 how to do that "stock"? I've tried doing it as object > path > outline stroke and then nothing happened and then when i tried exporting the ouline logo, it really exports the original image not the outline.
@@infographicstudio760 hey ,i got a way by mistake, but it's working, i tried Pathfinder, there is an outline tool in that and when i apply it, it really makes the outline vector which can be exported. But the problem is, when i exported that, then the outline is really too think, so I can't see this from a jpg white background, but still it's ok, we can see it but it's thin.
Is there any way to make that (outline) somewhat dark?

HI - i just got the new version and trying to learn the updates from c6. In the old one you could image trace and "ungroup" after removing the background and then move around with letters in a logo (forexample)
How do i "ungroup" in this version?
So i guess i cant remove background and move around with letters anymore in the new version??? Because it makes no sense
I had to convert our logo from a JPG to Vector because we needed it to be printed on clothing. However, I did exactly what you did with the R in the Burger King logo, because the original was smudged, but the company printing it returned and said the R had disappeared. Did I do something wrong? The rest of the logo looks great!

You might have to fix manually . Not all images does well in image trace. But nobody says that .

Hello there i tried all 3 methods but even after ungroping my objects are still groped there is a moon and 3 bags on the top but still groped how do now i color them

You have to click the image with selection tool. Than go to object ungroup
Does saving it as a png not make it back into a raster image?
you can make any raster to vector by this mathod. and you can save it any formate like jpg, png etc...

I tried several times but didn't work for me. i used the same pepsi logo. After exporting, if you place again, it shows pixilated
and this is right ahah, if you export as normal image, it shows the pixels; if you export in vector (.ai or other), it will be a vector image and... no pixels!
What if we have color gradient in the logo ?????

Converting to vector this method can work great, but with designs that are not as clean, may produce bad results.

. . . instead of 10 minutes vectorizing the Pepsi or Burger King logo, spend 10 seconds downloading a clean vector logo at Brandsofhteworld.com or a similar site. Vectorizing simple shapes is not problem I have in my workflow.

That's not 3 ways at all. That's 3 times you used the "Image Trace" tool. That's like using the "copy" tool 3 times and saying "3 ways to copy". Also, no instruction - just mouse moves, annoying music, and misleading.
