    Someone else commented it and I agree too. Would the same results have been achieved by decreasing the loft on the gamer? The backspin and high launch seemed to be a function of excess loft, not the putter itself. The putter they fitted you with happened to be a very similar to your non Odyssey one. I'm not hating here, I'm just all for maximizing existing equipment.

    Ian that was a show with your putter & then they tweaked another putter. I thought I was a descent
    putter, but 16 in a row. Pass my wallet to you man. Nice demonstration on how it's done. Happy
    holidays guys!

    The Ping putter fitting TXG posted a few days ago had a process. A true process. This seemed far more random. I would have been disappointed if I paid for this "experience".

    Ian was putting well right off the rip. Tweaks were smaller in nature because he started with a good fit. It was more dialing in versus doing more of an overall. Plus, visual preferences stated moved the process in a certain direction too instead of giving him putters that look like a rocket ship.

    Nice follow up to the Quintic putter fitting videos a few months back. Would increase my confidence in purchasing a putter if this was part of the fitting - regardless of OEM.

    Maybe I missed it, but there was no discussion of how head shape and different sight aids effect aiming bias. This fitting seemed to be "Here, which of these off-the-rack putters do you hit best, according to the machine." Contrast this to an Edel Golf putter fitting which is significantly more comprehensive and which takes things like aim bias into account. The player also walks away with a truly customized putter fit to them (note that I have no affiliation whatsoever with Edel). In reality, Odyssey are only going to do that for their Tour players. Of course, this process is better than nothing, but I would question the extent to which it "raises the bar" on fitting.

      I think this is one of those scenarios where Ian is a subject that knows a TON about the fitting process and already has a pretty strong bias towards what he likes and doesn't like and then when he's standing there making putts from range time after time after time, there just isn't anything to address regarding aim or sight line in this particular circumstance. Getting better ball roll metrics became the priority because he wasn't struggling with hitting his line. I don't think watching one person's fitting is a good look into what to expect out of your own fitting. If he had been struggling to start it at and get the ball into the cup they almost certainly would have made that a priority in the process

      @xTRUExiNsANiTYx Год назад

      This would be true if Ian were a “normal” golfer, but he’s literally a professional. No he doesn’t play on tour, but golf is his job, and most of it involves golf fitting. I don’t think you should draw conclusions about the fitting process at Odyssey based on this video involving a golf professional.

    • @vedrfolnirvedrfolnir6840
      @vedrfolnirvedrfolnir6840 Год назад +1

      @@xTRUExiNsANiTYx I respectfully disagree. Everyone, no matter how good they are, has aiming biases. Head shapes and sight aids (line in the cavity, line or dot on the topline etc.) all have a strong influence on how a player aims the putter. Finding the right combination of these too things is very important. My point is that a proper fitting should involve a discussion of these things, regardless of how good a player is. Ian is good enough to compensate for various factors and make most things work, but that doesn't mean the off-the-shelf putter they recommend is optimal for him.

    This is probably a niche request but would you guys ever do a video testing round putter grips vs normal grips with a flat top? It seems like Edel preaches about the benefits of a round grip (and offer both varieties). I’ve been messing around with it a bit and like the round grips but haven’t taken it to the course yet.

    why not try different lofts on the gamer? at the end of the day, go with what works best, but sometimes with a putter fitting that close, on the course it could be a different story because of feel off putter face/weight and other variables. Test it outside and see if results work, otherwise go back to gamer and maybe make some tweaks on that.

    This is why no company will ever be able to make putter fittings work. Their is no process. Ian is launching his ball 3 degrees to high with backspin on a 2 degree putter if his putter were to be bent to say 0° his putter would be 4° open and impossible to aim. Great job odyssey #1 putter on tour and absolutely no process to fix the main issue which is launch. Ian do me a favor come to California work with me on my Quinitic and let me fit you for a fine tuned putter which will be milled to exact weight and loft you need which is something no one else in our industry can do.

    Is there an ideal swingweight for these Stroke Lab shafted putters? Seems like 35" run about 8 points heavier than 34" of the same exact putter. Should weight be added to the heads (or butt weight decreased) of shorter Stroke Lab putters to make up for it? Thanks!

Maybe it's a function of having access to an endless stream of new equipment, but I wonder about the message it sends. "Come and get fit, but your results may only be good for 3-4 months, then you'll probably have to get fit again because something might have changed. Even more so if you're an average player."
