Bevonkte film my vriend! 101 van Galjoen. Als wat mens moet weet is baie duidelike in die video! Galjoen is my no1 vis op my emmerlysie. Wil nog baie graag so n vis vang! Dankie vir die deel! Wardeer!!
Xander, u missed a part in this video. The part where you threw up when u opened that sack and took out the bait... Coz I just did that now... All that's left now is to put it to use...
I have a question when maturing it will it not rot.... And for how long can you keep it like how wil you store it say to you have some left after fishing....
Awesome like always 😎 I like the bait collecting part and how to tie the bait on the hook. Suggestion when you make a video on catching a certain species it would be awesome if you could include the following: Bait collection, trace, how to tie your bait and where and when to target that specific species . Keep the videos rolling 😎
Thanks Nico. After I rendered the video and watched it through I saw that I skipped the scene where I explain where to cast...had some editing issues...on that scene the editing program kicked off and the auto save didn't include it...was a tough tech day...the bait tying and trace is in🙈

Zander, what's your take on preserving rooiaas once matured? I tranfer them into an airtight consol bottel, with a mix of 1/2 cup seasalt and 1/2 cup brownsugar. The bottel stands in my garage and I take from it as needed. Would you say this preservation distracts from its effectiveness? Great Channel!
Hi, dont like to add anything to my redbait to preserve it, but when i need to I mix some coarse salt into the matured bait then seal it in airtight containers and freeze it. But i prefer to use my bait up before i need to that and collect new bait then, but its not always possible
I'm going to the groot brak area in a couple of weeks. Which species should I target in the winter months of southern cape?Normally I catch tons of fish, but over summer months. Thanks for the great videos
Awesome vid as always, top quality information! Glad you are getting subs, you deserve many more!!!! As a small note, just be wary of the transitions in your video, the transition you are using is not friendly to people with epilepsy... Doesn't effect me, but something to consider
Hi Xander, just failed at my real first attempt at maturing Red Bait. It ended up “mush” after only 4 days. There were small maggots in the juice, could that be the issue? Everything else as per you vid. Thanks
Hi Steve! Sorry for the late reply! It might be a few things. Firstly the temperature, it should be kept in a really cool area and not exposed to sunlight or warm temperatures. Then secondly, there must’ve been a opening for a fly to get in for the maggots to hatch, the maggots also implies that the temperature was too warm. The container should be completely sealed. The bait should be checked daily to drain excess moisture and to see if it is close to ready. If it is warmer it can be fully matured in 2 days. Thirdly, was it washed out red bait that was picked up or was it freshly cut from the rock. Freshly cut red bait will take longer to mature than redbait that was washed out.
Thanks Xander, 1) Was in the garage so I think temp was ok unless the sun peered in at some point. 2) I think the opening by the rod is too small for a fly. Is it possible the fly could have layed on the rocks? I only had it in a mesh bag. Checked (drained) it every day. How do you “check” it is matured? 3) Freshly cut. 4) If it wasn’t for your video I would never have tried, but will keep trying. Thanks for all the info and entertainment you provide.
If you guys also want to attract more galjoen I advise you to keep some of the juices and use it as a sunscreen. The galjoen will start walking on dry land to investigate where the odor is coming from.
I prefer to use it once it is matured and use all of it...otherwise to freeze it i will mix a handful of coarse salt in it and then freeze it in a airtight container and defrost it the day before i go and fish
Haha jy sien daai emmertjie water langs my sak...hy help baie! Maar jou vingers vlek en as die galle byt sit daai reuk so 2 dae aan jou hande...dan weet jy jou aas was reg!
Thanks...yes you can but i prefer not to freeze my red bait. You can hang it like this for 3 days. Then either freeze it with or without some coarse salt mixed into the bait. Make sure when you freeze it that it is totally free from any air. So fill the air tight bucket to the lid so that there is no room for air and then wrap it with cling wrap. Tight lines
Hi Zoo Look Fishing. Let's say you mature 1kg of red bait...and you don't use it all on your fishing trip...do you put it back in your bucket?...or can you put it in the freezer?
Hi...if you are fishing again within the next 2 days you can just put it back in the bucket...if you want to freeze it..put it in an air tight container and add coarse salt mix it through and the freeze🤙🏻🤟🏻

Do u salt your bait and put in fridge or just mature and use

Great video. When maturing, do you keep the bucket in the shade? Where do you tip the excess liquid?
Thanks. I keep it in my garage away from the sun. I toss the excess liquid in the drain and flush it with the hose every day

Wat was jy jou hande na die trip om daai rooi aas reuk af te kry.
As always, very informative Zander!! Love it. 1 question, once your bait is prepared, do you ever freeze it...
Thanks...i do not like to freeze it bit if you do...add some coarse salt and put it in an airtight container
Dankie boet, sal dit onthou! Rooi aas nie altyd beskikbaar in die kaap nie, so as jy kry, moet man maar bere vir volgende keer ook... 😁

Viniger and sunlight dishwashing soap, mix it and wash your hands, should be good
