Installed it myself without any issues. The wifi signal is great even ruclips.net/user/postUgkxE_D_sddGAdiVUKp7PkkmyxO7bRtgqmk5 when the router is located far away. I really enjoy the night vision feature that allows me to see clearly any activity near our house (mostly cars and wild animals). The motion detection is helpful to me as well to monitor what happens on our front.
FINALLY!! A REAL NO BULLSHIT VIDEO. STRAIGHT TO THE POINT. THANK YOU FOR HAVING COMMON SENSE. I LOVE IT
Reolink should pay you, I'm buying a system cause of this video
I've watched a lot of videos about the Reolink system, but yours is the best!
Thanks for your comment!
🤑🤑🤑🤑🤑👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
An excellent presentation of the Reolink Camera System. I have just purchased this very same system (RLK8 -410B) today. As dial2fast says: "The hardest part of all - is the laying of the Ethernet Cables, and I will be visiting the Loft. After hours of searching for a reasonably-priced system, I chose this one! 5MP Cameras + 2TB HDD means that you will have the best possible clarity of recorded images, both day and night. Reolink will be proud of this presentation by dial2fast. Don't worry about a little dog poop on the grass. It's only fertiliser! Greetings from Australia.
Thanks for your comment!
If I were the owner of Reolink I would ask to buy your video. Fantastic work, editing in the right places, it kept me engaged the whole time. Just and FYI from a guy that has lived in tough parts of his city you should change your reboot time. That's prime time for thieves.
same thought
The best video on reolink I have found yet. Thanks!
Exactly - if it's important, it's in here, from beginning to the end.
A very concise video... Like so many others, I appreciate that you cut past the BS and get to the facts and present the installation and software use in a top-to-bottom manner. Thank you.
This is the most comprehensive review i seen on reolink NVR, from the un-boxing to the different review methods for videos, keep it up :)
Thanks for your comment!
I have this same setup and like the ease of the install. Their software needs a little work to make it great. You CAN'T search for motion alerts or fast forward with their current recorder software release. So if someone broke into your car overnight you would have to search minute by minute to try and find the footage. They have said they are working on adding this feature, but have not seen it yet. Motion alerts to email do work, but every bug or insect will set it off, even if you adjust the sensitivity of the motion detection. So for outdoors, it is not good, but for indoors I'm sure it would work great.
Finally someone with some good knowledge. Job well done! I use Reolink and Zmodo for my business...
Thanks for your comment!
On point video. No beating around the bush. Very factual. Amazing job dude!
This video shows everything I need to install these cameras. Thank you so much for making this video. I'll let you know when I finish the installation of my 6 Reolink cameras. Blessings.
Thank you so much for taking us through unboxing to actually how to set everything up. All the other reviews get off on a tangent and leave you in a world of complete confusion. BEST ON THE NET for the Reolink system. Got mine on the floor awaiting a few install parts here and there. Appears to be just like yours. A++++ on the video. Perfectly done.
WOW! April 2020, means close to two years later, but still very good, informative video! Nicely done!
FANTASTIC VIDEO!
Answered so many questions!
Thank you!!
Two years after making this excellent tutorial and the favourable comments are still pouring in - well done sir and personal thanks for showing me around the system. I checked through all the comments before posing this question... if you have a 2TB HDD and 4 x 5MP cameras recording continuously, how long will it be before the earliest recording gets overwritten. I am referring to 5MP camera's as that is what you used when you made this tutorial but a few years on and 2TB HDD with 4 x 4K cameras kits are now available. Also wonder if you know how long these will record continuously before the earliest recording is overwritten?
The system still running 24/7. The hard drive allows for about 5 days of recording time.
thank-you for the quick unboxing & not wasting viewer time
This was the best video about the whole setup process, and I watched about 5 different ones!
Watched your video and went out to get the Harbor Freight wire running kit. Just finished pulling 4 Cat6 wires in the attic.
I agree with the comment just below, your video is the best I've seen yet, your full details is excellent, and also you have a beautiful house.👍👍👍👍
i may have missed it but it has a mic and adjustable on all devices cap. correct?
Great detailed video! Need more RUclipsrs likes Dial2Fast! Keep up the good work
Are you using any type of firewall that the NVR is connected to?
Great video! My Reolink System has been acting up. 2 of 6 B800 4k Cams no longer shows up in my NVR. The 2 CAMS appear to have power because i see the IR lights. I tried my best to trouble-shoot but no such luck. Cam reset, different POE ports on the NVR, and different ports on my AMCREST Poe switch. I called Reolink support 2 separate times and each time they are asking for money. 1st request was for $149.99 then $69.99 for 6 months. I have to say the email support is somewhat better but.....
Is there anyway to setup as an instant replay? Such as replay the last 30 seconds using a hot key
Thank you for this my friend. I was dreading this entire process before, but I feel MUCH better about it now.
Fantastic video. I am clearly going to have to pay someone to install my system. I would make a real mess of that. I need to have a CLEAN looking install like you demonstrated. Thank you.
Thanks for your comment!
If you order on Amazon you can add professional installation for $180. Worth it if your house is a PITA to set up haha.
Great video, very informative, just bought this system from amazon, I was a little intimidated installing it myself until I saw this video, Thankyou sir!
Excellent video, short and to the point without loud obnoxious stupid music. This seems like a great setup overall. Been looking at one of their systems but I was wondering, which cameras should I get, the bullet cameras or the dome cameras? I'm looking at the 5MP setup. Thanks.
I got the RLN8-410 and just set up my cameras plus my Reolink video doorbell. How do I stop or silence the constant beeping from the NVR? It's driving us crazy!
Top draw video. The most comprehensive well explained video on CCTV systems. As has been mentioned previously you should get some remuneration from the company, as you make it look super easy to install. Thank you my friend.👍
Do you need a static IP address to remotely access this system? Can you set up motion alarms on newer versions of this reolink system?
Any suggestions on where to buy a good 90 foot cable that can run outside like the one you ran?
Appreciate this video as being very thorough. It would be another request to ask for a follow up video to discuss what video settings you choose and configuration etc. and how much space a 2tb hard drive can store and at what quality/bitrate etc.
support.reolink.com/hc/en-us/articles/360006073894-How-Long-Can-Reolink-NVR-Record-for
Just bought this system. So far I really like it but I am having an issue with the NVR. When I view footage from all 4 camera's the times don't seem to line up. For example if someone pulls out of the driveway it should go in order of the camera's but you see them leave on the last camera before they even get in the car on the first camera. Can you please help??
Can you replace the hard drive with a different internal see the hard drive as I do not like Seagate hard drives and was wondering about putting a western digital hard drive in it thanks for any help
You could have affixed the cameras to the bottom of the soffet. Would result in no cables exposed to the outside of the house.
This is the second video and it is great.
Thank you for posting your video.
Very straight forward.
Thanks for your comment!
Do I need internet or wifi to run this? I know it mentions a router but does the router actually need internet running through it?
You only need to connect the NVR to the router if you want remote access on your mobile device (outside your home).
I have my recorder connected to my WiFi using an IOGEAR Universal Ethernet to Wi-Fi N Adapter for Home or Office, GWU627 from Amazon. Works great.
Nice setup. I was tempted with this. But, went with the Google Nest Wifi. However, I do prefer LAN connects, even more so with the PoE connection.
Excellent video. Makes it so easy to understand how to install the system. You covered all the important parts. Thanks again.
Is there a way to schedule taking a photo say every 30 minutes? I'd like to do a timelapse. Thanks
Thank you so much for taking the time to make these videos! I have set my system to 12hr format. When I go to search playback, I have to search in 24hr format. Do you know why this hasn't changed?
I’m hip just got a reolink already have ez watch gona switch my whole system to this system with a few wireless cameras to backup my back up your video closed the deal ty
what is the other power lead for that comes from the camera , can this nvr be viewed without internet
Fantastic job sir.. I hope you get paid for this presentation!
Thanks for your comment and you watching my video help support my channel.
Does REOLINK offer a monitoring service also?
Great detailed video. I’ve been researching affordable camera systems and was considering Reolink and now definitely going with it after viewing this video
How to you out on the weatherproof bit please
Great install. So you added a second router/modem to the closet, and also have router/modem from the cable company, which is probably downstairs in an office?
why couldn't reolink do a video like this !
Great review much appreciated. I'll be buying this system because of your excellent tutorial. Cheers from Canada.
Hello, can we connect the NVR Box to the internet Box via WIFI or you have only the choice to connect it via LAN ???
You have to connect using Ethernet cable
@@dial2fast thx
How secure is this system over the internet, seems there’s been problems with security hacks related to these cameras.
Great video. My mouse does not work on the back USB port but does work on the front USB port. Must be a defect on my device.
Can the nvr box connect right to my hdmi tv or soundbar that allows hdmi input? I have my router in bedroom on far side of the house but I do have a CAT6 cable running to my xbox one so I could (in theory) use an ethernet splitter for ethernet to the NVR which would ideally be added to my entertainment center. The question is whether or not the hdmi has to be direct to a monitor or if it can be simply added as another hdmi source through one of my other TV hdmi outputs.
The mouse input would be another challenge. Otherwise I have to move the router to my livingroom (which poses its own set of challenges).
The HDMI output can be connected to any HDMI TVs or soundbar if it does the switching to a TV.
Awesome video mate. Very informative and learnt quite a deal about Reolink carmeras and its system. Surely looks simple to setup and easy to use. Thanks once again.
Do I have to connect it to my router? I thought you can just plug in the DC to AC power?
Would you still recommend this setup in 2020? Newer version? I’m ready to do an install.
A I Thanks. Since posting my comment I have purchased the 4K system for my new house. Hopefully I can install it without too much difficulty.
Tons of videos and everyone is running from the physical network setup and software configuration.
I want to buy this system but don't have an attic. Any tips for instillation?
how does fast forward work when using playback? Like if I need to look at a lot of footage quickly. Can you explore that more?
Don't expect to fwd/rev the video very quickly like you are watching a DVD. The video needs to be retrieved from the many hours of recording on the hard drive. You typically can search the video with motion detection markings on the video, and an approximate timeline of when the event happened. Then narrow it down to the specific point in time. In my experience, the video WILL be recorded, but can take some time to find the specific event that might be only 10-20 seconds of what you are looking for.
hello,
thanks for the video,
I have 2 questions, at minute 12:25 you show the event 'motion'
do you have an alarm/notification on your phone in this case?
do it is possible select only a part of screen for mouvement detection? for exemple is it possible to haven't an event for a car in the street (13:00) and have an alert only if car is in your propriety ? (without change frame or angle of camera).
thanks in advance
Why did you not go for the 5mp set up?
Can you tell me the approximate size of the living room and viewing area that you show on the one camera. I'm trying to decide which type of camera to go with and how many I'd need.
How do you get the waterproof plug over the cord its too tight a fit
The waterproof plug will not pass through if the RJ45 connector has a rubber cover on it or molded with a rubber cover. It will fit if it's just a regular crimp on RJ45 connector (or you can try to use a knife and carve down the 4 corners of the RJ45 rubber cover).
Thank you for such a straight forward video!! VERY THROUGH! AWESOME!!
Thanks! It seems Reolink cameras don't have color night vision. I have seen Lorex system and it did have color at night time.
They do. I saw a review show this, check lifehacker here.
So well explained.Congratulations.
Thanks so much for the VDO, I'm just about to buy my first CCTV and I'm lucky to have seen your channel before buying them..
I will get the one with 5MP camera.
Hello,
Thanks for the video. One question: could you used HDMI cable to motinor, laptop, or TV to watch live stream?
Kind regards
Also, does it have good visibility at night?
@@e7ty954 Yes you can connect the HDMI output on the NVR to a monitor with HDMI input. As you saw in the video, it has night vision for night time recording.
Great vid! Just bought the 16 channel version with 8 cameras. Gonna buy one more 410 and the poe ptz camera! Thanks!
will this NVR allow me to download footage as it's being recorded? as oppose to having a SD card in the camera that could be smashed by burglar, which could mean lost footage..
Hi, how important would audio be for surveillance and how much more is the same features with audio too ? Thanks for excellent videos ! 😊
Very helpful video. Thank you very much!
bro i have some question
1 is there a camera that doesn't require a internet
2 if its there how can it send you text if you are out of the country
3 and if you dont use your data when your out of the country can you still receive that text if you camera and your phone are not connected to the internet connection
The other cables that come out of the camera (the two you dont need) are they always hanging outside, or can you put them in de back of the mounting?
Those cables don't coil up behind the base mount. However if you are mounting this on a junction box or on a surface where you can push those wires into the wall, then you can hide it that way. I did that with the indoor mounted camera and all the wires are pushed into the wall behind the drywall so you only see the camera itself.
@@dial2fast thanks for the quick answer. I think that i will drill a hole in the brickwall big enough so i can put the network cable first in to the house, en than the other cables.. I live in the Netherlands en our houses have 9.9 inch concrete wall and than comes a 4.5 inch brickwall haha..
@@remymenger8937 Ah yes, in Europe and Asia, many homes are built with bricks and concrete. The junction box idea I mentioned is something like the link below. Not sure if you can get it in Netherlands. You mount the box on the wall, and then mount the camera on the box. It still gives a clean look to it (no wires hanging out). amzn.to/304krzc
@@dial2fast that's exactly what i meant! Thank you for being so helpfull! If i don' t get it in Europe, i can always order these in the US! Again thanks!
hi great video.... i was wondering if anybody knows how far/long can i add to the Maximum length to the cat 5 cable?? i want to use one of these cameras about 140 ft from the black box... Is there a specific type of cat 5 cable to use, or are they all the same? thank you for responding.
I read that cat5 is 330ft and cat6 is like 270ft
Maximum lenght for a Cat5 cable is 300ft
Does the motion sensor light that is mounted directly beside the camera on the left side of your house affect the night time video at all?
Does not affect it.
@@dial2fast Thanks. My concern was when the camera is in night mode and then someone triggers the motion light, that the image might be affected.
I have question about the Reolink Dome. if I install on a side wall, will I be able to rotate the view 90 degree? (I am not looking for upside / down viw.
Yes you can rotate it 90 degrees. You can see the review here ruclips.net/video/KwDf362gxsc/видео.html
👋 hello , is there a (year 2020 ) model of this unit ?
Use dielectric grease on the plug or electrical connections outside. Any cables outside should be rated for outdoor exposure
Home Depot sells wet location UL listed for use Cat-5. Or did, been a while. But should use that type if below grade even in pipe = wet location.
I'm not sure I'd want to ad any sort of deox to the RJ45 terminals.
If it's exposed to sun, UV rate insulation is another story. It's low-V, so not a significant hazard.
@@6789uiop The dielectric grease keeps the copper from corroding and bad connections. Also repels moisture
@@mrmotofy How does the dielectric grease get inside the RJ45/RJ46? If I were crimping my own connecters I might consider listed deox I suppose. I think it comes with a boot but probably not sealed, so good idea.
@@6789uiop I just smear it on the contacts of the male plug then squish it in the other open end of plug to help seal it. When you plug male in it will cover the jack contacts. But yes I'm pretty sure Nolox or any of those contact greases will work. I've personally seen the protection from Dielectric and used it for 20+ years. No personal experience with the others so I can't verify.
Outstanding video. This is the best one I have seen. I liked how you made a close up video of the actual camera mount, swivel adjustments, and mounting to your house. I also liked how you ran the cat5 outside to your garage. Most videos just describe it but you showed close up and that was great. The demonstration on your monitor was super informative. Again, most channels just talk about that option but you actually demonstrated it!! Thanks for a super video.
Well explained. I bought one and will be here in a couple of days and your video will definitely help to do it correctly. A question that came to mind is that can you connect 2 Ethernet cables to get to length I need. Great video and thank you 🙏
They do make RJ45 coupler to connect two cables together and most likely will work, but it's not recommended for high bandwidth data usage.
@@dial2fast Will these cameras still record with no wifi ?
I just ordered the 8 camera package. Can't wait til it arrives 😁
How did the eight camera package go? I am thinking of getting some, so would appreciate your opinion. Thanks
@@ThisDadsPlace the process was smooth. The only problem was that I had to purchase 6 150 ft cat 6 cords due to the size of my house. But it works pretty good. I'm hoping that it lasts
PLATINUM thanks for the quick reply. By what I can see on the video they seem to work good too.
Do you know if the NVR can connect to the router Wireless? Also do this system have the possibility to connect a wireless camera to the system?
The LAN connection requires an Ethernet RJ45 connection. The NVR does not connect to camera wirelessly. Also keep in mind, wireless camera is not completely wireless because you need to power it with a power adapter.
How do you put it in record motion only? I have one camera, rlc 410. It’s connected to my pc. No nvr.
Is it necessary to have easy access to the reset switch? If so is it possible to make the reset switch cable longer?
You don't normally need access to the switch. I have not had to reset it since it was installed.
@@dial2fast Thank you so much for the quick reply and thank you for a making a great video
Thank you. Detail breakdown.
If I'm being stupid, do let me know. But I bought exactly the same kit from Amazon, and the cable they provided doesn't fit through the waterproofing plastic seals that you're supposed to screw together once you've plugged the cable in. The actual RJ-45 end bit is too big. Is that a massive oversight on Reolink's end, or do they expect you to run all your own cabling and crimp it yourself?
Unfortunately that weather shield cover will only fit over a regular crimped RJ45 connector. If it has the molded rubber, it will not fit through it unless you use a knife and shave off all 4 corners of the rubber cover.
Great video. Anyone know if they updated their system in 2021 to not not have to use java anymore? Its no longer supported.
Do you have to have a NVR with Reolink to Work?
Is there a way to automate backing up of the recordings to an FTP to clean the onboard HDD on the NVR when it fills up? I would like to have 2-3 weeks recorded for when I go on vacation and the hard drive limits prevent that. Amazing video, I can't wait for your update.
Question: A 60-foot ethernet cord per camera is provided. If it's not long enough - the camera location is, say, 70-ft away - would it be better to purchase a 70+ foot cord, or would it be okay to purchase a 20+ foot cord and female-to-female jack to use with the 60-foot cord? Will the power/quality diminish using the extender jack?
Doing it the method you are thinking will not necessarily diminish the electrical current flow to the camera, but you should be more concerned about noise that might be introduced in the wire since the RJ45 coupler area will not be twisted. The twisted pairing of wires in the ethernet cable is to reduce EMF noise. If you don't mind spending a little bit more money on buying some ethernet cable and crimp tool, you are better off buying a 1000' of Ethernet cable and running your own, and crimping the RJ45 connector yourself. It's not difficult to learn once you do couple of connectors. I have updated links to the wire and tools, and instructional video on how to crimp RJ45 in the description of this video.
@@dial2fast Great! Thanks so much for the great info. Cheers!
Do you need to setup a Static IP address for the NVR?
No
excellent video. i just ordered one of these systems from amazon and a couple more r10 cameras off ebay for 6 total. i plan to install them myself when they arrive next week. one thing i've been wondering is what do you do with the the dangling reset button and unused power plug when you mount them outside. i didn't want to put a electrical box like i've seen some do. i was hoping you'd show what you did but you didn't. did you just leave them dangling? or did you tape em up? i'm planning to install them under the eaves too like you did on the left side, and i'm thinking i'll just get some electrical tape and tape em up real good. thx.
How did your install go? I installed mine under the eaves and used a 1" hole saw to stuff the wiring through then mounted the cameras over the holes. Kinda like he did in the closet.
I agree-this is by far the best video on Reolink and the NVR system. Great job. Two quick questions: Can you use the client PC software outside of the LAN? Do you have to setup the PC you want to use within the LAN first or is there another option? (I just set up an Argus 2 using the PC Client software within the LAN and it works great..but I want to use the PC at work to access the video.) 2nd question..how long of a run with the POE cable can you make without signal/power loss? I've heard 330 meters (100 yards).
Thanks again. Great video.
Hi there, I have not tried installing the PC client software outside of my LAN. If I need to access the PC software remotely, I use TeamViewer for remote desktop. As for cable distance, in theory, it should follow the CAT 5/6 standards, which is absolute maximum of 100m. Also use solid copper wire, and not copper clad.
will less expensive Poe cameras from other brands work with the reolink nvr
I really loved the way you have presented. It was very easy to follow. Your display is very clear and square. I have one problem and that is the display is curved on both sides. How can I overcome this situation? Please advise. Thanks.
If you are referring to the camera view having a bit if the curved sides, then that is normal because it's a wide angle lens and you will have some distortion on both sides.
I wish they didn't come with the poe/power/reset switch attached to the camera... You have to drill a hole that much bigger to hide the cables...
Not if you put the network connector in first and then slide the others in when just the cable is in the hole.
@@donaldalderman3101 Actually I think Reolink should set them all up for POE type at the camera, so you can run just the a network cable to the cam ... then at the end where you connect it to the NVR, etc. have a adapter that you can plug in the ethernet cable into and then plug the adapter's ethernet plug into the NVR and another cable off the adapter you plug in a power brick (something like this at the NVR side: www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/adafruit-industries-llc/3785/1528-2616-ND/9380220?Power%20over%20Ethernet%20(PoE)&Shopping_Power%20Supplies%20-%20External%2FInternal%20%28Off-Board%29_NEW&Power%20over%20Ethernet%20(PoE)&gclid=Cj0KCQjw09HzBRDrARIsAG60GP8K78GMbtFQit9RiSchtnlExIh3s1GbqeS93GjOnrXsIb8v1sE82GoaAqOIEALw_wcB).
This will serve many issues. 1.) you don't have to have a plug installed near the cam in the attic as you'll be just running the one line ... instead you supply the power at the NVR (etc.) side where you're most likely will have a plug already. 2.) if the power brick fails, it's easier to maintain and 3.) a smaller hole is needed to run the cable through.
