How to Paint a Sphere in Five Steps | Warm & Cool Grayscale/Grisaille | Oil Painting Lessons

  • In this demonstration I show you how to paint the basic shape of a sphere in grayscale or grisaille, using single sourced light. I use warm black and a cool black oil paint with white. There are three shadow forms; form shadow, core shadow, and cast shadow; and three light forms; highlight, halftone (light area), and reflected light. These shadow forms and light forms are in everything we paint or draw.

    You are missing graduated value work in your lesson, making this a bad example of painting a sphere in light.
