How dreadful those glass monstrous structures that have been allowed to be erected in London which should have listed building status for whole of inner London.
Only used for walking short distances over the top of a soft, leather shoe, similar to what was called (around 100 years ago) a 'house' shoe. For longer distances everyone wore boots, with a thick leather sole. Or, if very young, elderly or infirm, were carried by relatives, servants or in a cart. Even possibly paners on a horse/donkey/ass.
I love all this information and the stories behind some of the (hidden) buildings!! Thank you!
Very glad to hear it, thanks for your comment!
They tore our church down and put up a McDonalds. 🤢

It's a shame the horrible buildings surrounding it lack any imagination.
Yes, I couldn't agree more. Those 'monstrous carbuncles' have blighted the city.
I just came across the word "patten" in a Dickens novel. Fun making another connection
I find these little insights fascinating!! Right up my street... Literally!! 😂 Could listen to this all day!!
Fascinating!!
The music, for a church video, makes me feel like a witch riding on a broom at Halloween lol 😂😂😂

Cool!!!
Those 'shoes' look terribly uncomfortable
But they probably kept the shoes and clothing clean and so did their job.

Where the sandals became lost.
So glad to see it hasn’t been turned into a mosque ! History is beautiful !
I walked out on the bell tower balcony once here, bloody terrifying !
Imagine wearing skis to trek over the 10” horse manure on the way home 😅
