So Max is using SponsorBlock?
*yes*
Captain Disillusion, a techmoan parody, and obscure infrastructure facts. Everything I love in a video, can't wait for the next one.
I recognised the Techmoan parody immediately. Way too good!
AND a TomSka cameo!
@@afmersnad7746 oh my god how did I miss that in my comment. The garlic chain literally made me lol.
My body was not ready for this video!
As you can probably tell from my profile picture, I particularly enjoyed the clapperboard joke.
Whoa super generous of Captain Disillusion to let Alan add to his acting folio by being in this. What a great boss.
Thank god someone else noticed that unexpected cameo! Thought I was going crazy scrolling through these comments
Thank you for saving me months of recognizing him without being able to place where from.
Adam Blompied made a great appearance too.
Love the subtle inclusion of the cue mark at the top right corner of the video before the sponsor segment (8:05) - I also noticed it in the last video. I remember moving to the UK in the late 2000's where some television channels still used these cues to visually signal the live broadcaster to prep following adverts. Very subtle addition!!
Thanks, thought that was an artifact
I'm so glad I wasn't the only person to notice that! I always wondered why that appeared before ads as a kid!
OMG I have been watching Jay for years and never knew what that was/what is for and it bugged me sm cos no one else ever talked about it tysm!
I want the editor to know that that "clap is out of sync but speech is in sync" gag was noticed and appreciated.
The editor is me. Thanks! :)
@@JayForeman The preceding part of that bit, with the clapperboard and the confused look that you cut away from, was the gag that I shared around my friend group. Your sense of humor is a fantastic lure that keeps bringing me, an American with zero interest in architecture, coming back to all these informational videos of yours.
I saw that too, it was great
3:04 for all to enjoy again
@@NilesHlavacek I was checking my wireless headphones for so long and it never got into sync with the picture. Then I realized I was watching a Jay Foreman video and I felt really stupid. Great gag!
The way you depicted Marc's half-English, half-French heratige was utterly brilliant
Tomska reusing his Le Alien costume 😂
It's the first think I thought of when he said half-English, half-French and he did just that!
Jay's style is based on the notion that every fact can be a joke.
The pickpocket stealing an old phone was hilarious . Your videos are the best , history with humour . Thank you .🙂
Yeah - you beat me to it (by two months!) I really did laugh out loud.
I love how this kinda feels like old school youtube where people would collaborate for sketches and videos and not just for views
Not sure what I love more, Jay Foreman being exceptional as usual, the cast you've managed to assemble, or that Techmoan impression.
Techmoan impression was a lovely surprise
Techmoan was spot on :)
not sure why but the impression made me very happy
Proves that Jay Foreman is also a fan of Techmoan
Impression? I thought it was another cameo!
Captain Disillusion, Alasdair Beckett-King and Adam Blampied turning up in this series is a real Dickens of a twist.

And Techmoan (kind of) at the end! 😁

For the amount of channels I sub to, not once has Jay been a suggestion from the YT algorithm, it took a comment from Tom Scotts recent vid with Beardyman to get me here, and here I am at the current end of the Unfinished London playlist which I have just binged.
I LOVE this channel and I cannot wait to explore more of these brilliant videos, and I couldn't even give a toss about London as I live in Cambridgeshire.
The information, the humour, the subtle edits, the tiny details, the cameos, .....my good sir, I applaud your work. Thank you.
I too live in Cambridgeshire but am very fond of London which is where my dear father was born ... I like to think of London as the centre of the world but Cambridge as the centre of the civilised world ...
The Tower of London is hardly gothic. It's in typical Norman style, so therefore romanesque. The bridge is in gothic revivalist style because that was sort of the 19th century romanticised view of medieval architecture. Rather than matching the style of the Tower, it's more of an idealised attempt at creating this (faux-)medieval milieu.
It could never be gothic. We all know Goths wear black and the Tower of London obviously doesn't 😅

Now this is the kind of over the top, incredibly detailed and ridiculously nerdy analysis I come to this channel for.

I only just noticed him after the 3rd time watching this video xD
Hopefully not colliding too much.
I like the honesty for how beautiful Tower Bridge is. It's easy as a Brit to be snarky and downplay stuff, but Tower Bridge is legitimately something to be proud off.
The "surrounding architecture" gag really made me laugh out loud. Unexpected and accurate - That's how a good joke really works :-D

Oh wow! It wasn't just me that got that reference 🤣

Very subtle, very nice.
The Techmoan impersonation is absoletuly genius!
Yes, it is. It took me a moment though. 😄
IKR! TechMoan 😂 (someone's got to tell him.. And his puppets too!!)
The fact that Brooklyn Bridge is older than Tower Bridge was a real surprise to me. The architecture of Tower Bridge really creates the illusion that it was built in the 14th century or something! Fascinating for sure.
yeah i couldn't believe that
😎 Another fun fact: The Eiffel Tower is older than the Sacré-Coeur in Montmartre. 😍 In fact, over half of Montmartre was razed to make room for that church... 🧐
The UK is full of really new stuff that looks like really old stuff, such as the Houses of Parliament
Indeed.
This goes to show how ignorant of architecture history (or physics for that matter) the average person is
5:35 “so the bridge would forever fit insensitively with the surrounding architecture. AAAAAA-“
It is actually endearing how seeing John Finnemore anywhere but especially in a Jay Foreman video has brightened my day
The lemon is in play
That part where John Finnemore showed up made this video a better crossover than Avengers in my book.
Agreed
"Well! Since you asked me to appear in an internet video as nineteenth century architect..."
Why, what do you have them do in your book?
Brilliant!
So THAT’S why I recognized that voice.
What an excellent cast! Some were so famous, that I recognised them.
I think some shots of the interiors of the bridge would have been good, as they are pretty flipping (see what I did there?) impressive.
A wild lindybeige! That's going in the journal.
Captain Disillusion was a surprise!
I sent my dad your scholar's cradle video. It's clearly gripping as we both watched all of it, hopefully he is now using them in his lectures!
A great cast, indeed!
Tom Scott's video, from whence some of the external shots are taken, also includes a lot of inside footage- it's linked in the description.
The painting shown from 0:43 to 0:45 is, I believe, by Edward Henry Eugene Fletcher (1851(7?)-1945), my great grandfather. Excellent channel, I just pushed the "Like" button.
It appears that Mr. Fletcher's name was flooded at some point between then and now.
No, it's W. J. Baker "The Pool of London" (1892)
Is 7:04 a subtle Tom Scott impression?
🤔

We have the same soggy clay in San Francisco, so when they needed to build a subway under the bay, they built a tunnel on land and sunk it underwater. I try not to think about it too much-for some reason it’s more unnerving than just a regular tunnel.
Paris metro tunnels under the Seine river were actually built using a similar technique.
Sydney Harbour tunnel is the same. Based on a Japanese tunnel if I remember correctly.
I agree... More of a pipe than a tunnel!
The Detroit Michigan - Windsor Ontario tunnel is the same kind of tunnel. Not bored under the bedrock, it's literally a tube sitting on the floor of the river. As long as they're manufactured right, they're no less safe than underground tunnels.
What, did they push it down? :D

I laughed so hard that they would have locked me up for hysteria at the time the bridge was built 🤣
Same, that scream! 😂
I remember there being an episode of Blue Peter at the time that the London Eye was being built where one of the presenters accompanied a pod being brought up the river on a barge. He was disappointed that Tower Bridge didn't need to open to let them through, but as the Eye was being built next to Westminster Bridge, the barge carrying the pod would've needed to fit under all the bridges downstream of there, so if it had been too big to pass under Tower Bridge without it having to open then it wouldn't have been able to pass under the bridges between it and Westminster either!
I love the editing of your videos (your reflection nodding at you in the previous one was genius) and the black and white commercial break thing in the corner of this one made me all nostalgic!

"Tunnels in a nutshell were not up to the job, and neither were tunnels under the Thames." I laughed for minutes at that. John Wolf Barry. Lemmings on the bridge walkway. Cameos, JOHN FINNEMORE! Well done sir. Easily the best video I'm going to see this month.
@Lukas Borck Wow! That's something else I need to go and see just as soon as I'm allowed.
I had to pause the video I laughed so much
That's alot of cameo's I especially didn't expect Adam Blampied especially after just finishing watching a video of him playing nemesis, or the marvelous ABK or Tomska or John Fi... You get the idea.

They are one of the best concerts, you can not go but just seeing them from the screen, I know it was surprising

From 2001 to about 2011 i used to visit London quite regularly and frequented a night club near London Bridge and often stayed in hotels close to the Tower, quite often I had to wait for the bridge to lower the roadway on my way back in the early hours of a Sunday morning as there would be pleasure boats on the river who were too tall to go under the bridge

Americans: London Bridge

You've got John Finnemore on Unfinished London...
The entire human goal in life has been accomplished! Well done!
Right! I was shocked not to see more comments about it.
4:58 You have no authority Jackie Weaver!
ok
Haha, I liked that reference too
@@MilamberinxSame.
the Richard Trevithick steam train gag had me in actual tears. I love this channel so much
When I saw him I just said out loudly "ITS ADAM"
Further proof that jay foreman is one of the best RUclipsrs, fully love the unfinished London series
Take a look for City Beautiful by Dave Amos he maked great content too.
Educational and interesting, wonderful content Jay! Being in this was incredibly fun and this video is amazing - my favourite part was the zoom call between all the gentlemen. Hope to see (and hopefully be in) many more videos! - Jesse
Thanks Jesse! And thanks for doing such a great job! :)
@@JayForeman How does one get to be in these videos? P.s. I'm guessing some of these appearances make more sense to a Brit than a yank.
A riveting performance as Brunel's tunnel passerby #2.
@@njdevilku1340 Well Jesse was at the right place at the right time. Unless we know we need extras in particular costumes, we just chance it on the day.
@@jadeforeman131 Well if you need anything, I'm not far from NYC (like the Brooklyn bridge)
NGL, that through arch bridge design of Bazalgette looked pretty good.
Awesome nod to "Techmoan" at the end. Brilliant!!
I love that you and John Finnemore know each other!
Great video as always :)
Aw, it's so lovely to see some of my favourite RUclipsrs appear on an equally amazing RUclipsrs channel. Tomska, ABK, captain disillusion.
the Techmoan impression was extraordinary ahah the effort put into the ads makes me watch them
the Techmoan bit at the end was amazing!!!
