Bone to pick at 13:00-15:00 (!), when researching, there are logs with the manifests of each storage area, so you don't need to revisit every storeroom for them

I recently finished System Shock 2 for the first time. While I can agree with some of your gripes, I find a lot of them to be lazy complaining or nitpicking. No offense. I just felt like you were burying the game a lot for not being simple and narrow-minded. Unlike Bioshock, the game is an immersive sim. It isn't as streamlined. It's okay to not enjoy the genre, but that doesn't make every element of design in the game flawed just because you don't jell with it. It's just not for you.

You're right in the sense that even 1000 nitpicks won't bring down a good game, and that is the case here. It is still a good game that I think is worth playing, but I believe it's worth pointing out outdated gameplay mechanics as it serves to contrast where we are today with games. The thing with System Shock 2 is that there is one thing it does extremely well, creating an immersive playspace and then a lot of other things it does with a mixed degree of success.
It's just my opinion though and I'm glad you had a more positive experience.

I usually go for a Tech and Weapon build. I was so happy when I discovered this game had actually decent Shotgun Shells. For some reason I have never understood the developers of the original game thought including a Shotgun while making the only Shotgun ammo in the game rubber slugs was a good idea. Seriously who under attack by killer robots or cyborgs thinks this is a good time to use rubber bullets? Fortunately both the sequel and the remake didn't repeat this mistake.

I'll def replay this game one day and most likely have a better time all around because of it. Older games tend not to be fun until you engage with them properly and that was probably the case here, I just didn't have it in me to do an immediate replay for review. Haven't tried the remake of 1 yet but it looks good and looking forward to the enhanced SS2

Disagree with you wholeheartedly at 2:55.
Bioshock wasn't a successful "streamlining" of System Shock and Shock 2. It worked to make a commercially successful IP on thr consoles, vut make bo mistake; ganeplay and storywise, it was significantly dumbed down.

Streamlining and dumbed down are interchangable terms. Which one you use depends on where your bias lies.
In my opinion there is a lot more interesting philosphy in the question of "who cleans the toilets in utopia?" than the question of "what does it mean to be an individual"

Don't have time to watch the video today. But here's a quick comment to help for "engagement"!

I’m looking forward to replaying it again soon. I think some frustrations I had (operations/command deck) that kinda soured how I felt about it by the end.
The more older games I play the more I realise you almost gotta play them once to understand how to enjoy them haha
