I was Navy A-4 jet mechanic back in the 70s. Then Got my A&P, IA, and Fixed wing PPL. Now I am retired and can't get my medical so flying is no more. But, I still do vicariously thru several RUclips channels. Its isn't as good as the real thing but much better than nothing. If I could afford it and could get my medical back I would love to go after rotor wing and instrument. Although, I have never flown a glass cockpit. It seems they take so much of the workload off the pilot and much improved situational awareness. Oh well. Thank you, I subbed and rang the bell. Be safe.
Love the A4. Begged for a ride back where I was wearing ng the uniform but I didn't have a current ejection seat qual & there wasn't anyone around to knock it out. A&P is the magic ticket - wish I had it. The glass cockpit is part of the equation...having all of the systems interoperable is the real deal. Massive workload reduction. But it call lull you in to complacency if you're not careful. I hope you can knock that medical out and get back in the sky. In the meantime, I sure appreciate you watching.
I've seen those Honda jets, thanks for letting me get a better look. I enjoyed riding along on that sweet little red bird. I look forward to taking that right seat again, thanks.

Well done. As a fellow a professional pilot it’s refreshing to see such a nice job of flying, aircraft management and communication. Thank you so much for NOT saying “clear of the active”. Perfect radio call saying that you are clear of runway 15! In case readers are interested, Reference: FAA AC90-66B …"When referring to a specific runway, pilots should use the runway number and not use the phrase "Active Runway," because there is no official active runway at a non-towered airport."

( I’m on track to get my aerospace EGR degree). Secondly, you’re baller for having your own jet, and it being the Legacy is very good taste. It’s a very capable jet. you asked for feedback and I’d say it’s hard hearing your commentary over live ATC. Would also recommend more B-Roll esk like you did, switching angles from co-pilot to front and also the fallen side window.
I love the Honda Jet. Would be nice if you can sync the camera shutter speed to the display so they don't roll the cockpit displays. Thanks for a great video.
FINALLY A HONDA JET!!!! I've been waiting on this one.. For this to be your 1st video you did a great job. The only improvement I can think of is the screens doing that rolly flicker thing.. lol other then that and the consideration that it was your 1st video, I give it a 95/100... =)
Thanks so much. I really appreciate the feedback. You and I saw the same thing - no real in-cockpit content on the HJ. What I really wanted to do was to create something where my dad could watch my flight. I may not be the world's greatest jet driver but it sure is fun. I agree on the PFD and MFD issues. I've been playing with Frames Per Second settings and other options to try and solve. I've put in calls to GoPro, Garmin, HondaJet, and other pilot's to try and get good info. I've recorded 3 more flights and still have the issues. I'll keep at it until it's sorted out. When I record those with my iPad or Iphone, it comes out great. Hmm
there is something off in the audio. At the start of the video, i could only hear from left side of the headset and in cockpit i could hear only in the right side. Your other videos have the same problem as well. Your videos are great and if you fix the audio it would be so good. All the best.
amazing stuff i often wonder what people do for a living that can afford to own and fly a jet, i cant even afford to hire a cessna 172 any more LOL, we are so blessed that you share this stuff with us
I was riveted for the whole video. I really loved your whole commentary about the airplane and about your purchase and service experiences, your history as a pilot and I also liked following along with your checklists and flows. Well done! I’ll be subscribing. I love that jet. That approach with little to no flair must take some getting used to!
Thanks so much. The landing is a little different. Feels more like a carrier landing, but it makes sense. When I have longer runways, I use a bit more finesse. Really appreciate you taking the time to subscribe and leave a comment.
@@bluemaxsix thank you for making the video. It must have taken a lot of work. Out of curiosity what else did you fly in the military besides the (very cool) Apache?
Sure. In flight school, I flew UH-1s (Hueys) in primary and then transitioned to the AH-1 (Cobra). I went to the AH-64 (Apache) course shortly after flight school and that's what I flew for the rest of my career.
We all enjoy hearing the engines spool up upon ignition. If you're going to invest in any new cameras, with the Garmin cameras, you can overlay speed, etc, on to video just fyi. Good luck with the channel, love the plane, let's go fly'in
thanks so much for sharing you jet with us. Also want to thank you for showing checklist usage. There are some big name youtubers who DO NOT use a checklist, but claim they edit it out for “entertainment” yet you see long unedited shots where there should have been two phases done that are not. They cant wrap their brains around the fact there are low timers out there who they influence. great explanations regarding the systems and I love hearing the empty cockpit callouts. I believe I saw a comment about out the filters for the frame rate and flicker, maybe grab a better voice over mic. Again thanks so much already hit like and subscribe. If you ever fly into KILM I’ll throw you a wave!
Thanks Larry, I a ppreciate you taking the time for a great comment - well said. Still working out a few rough areas and have 3 more flights I'm working on now. Steep curve to editing. I spent A LOT of my Army career flying low & slow in the KILM area.
Hello from Perry-Houston Ga Airport. Like following the Honda Jet. Would like to see more close up instruments in use. Explination of the various landing approaches. VNAV, GPS , I follow other RUclips flights and just looking out windows gets old. I know its sometimes nice scenery but like more navigation.
I like this video - so I subscribed. If you look you can find how to set the cameras so they record images in sync with the screens in your cockpit. That way they don't flash. Usually there is a RUclips video on how to do it.
@@bluemaxsix my son has his boat at the Charleston Resort Marina near the Yorktown! He gets the best of both worlds, just north of broad and the resort! If you love ❤️ Charleston I hope you’ve read my favorite author, Pat Conroy!
Awesome. Tell him Thanks from me. I'm an old timer so I was probably long gone by the time he was climbing into the cockpit. The men and women flying the attack mission these days are amazing.
Please accept as observations and not criticism. It would be nice to have flight deck sounds mixed in your audio. The side video looking at the left wing needs to be straightened. Perhaps raise the forward viewpoint. And finally, your introduction was over modulated. Great to have you on RUclips. I’ve subscribed and look forward to the future.
Yea, P1D's content is spot on. He's been gracious enough to offer a few tips. There's still some issues unique to the HJ (screen rolling) that I'm judt going to have to experiment to get sorted out.
@@bluemaxsix Amazing! Could you maybe make a video showing the full gtc setup. So things like the system tests, weights, performance, pdc, flightplan, etc. Would be very cool to watch
@@jenswaldram5955 I've heard that from several people. I'll try and get a camera to show that. If not for the full flight, then definitely for the initialization and pre-tax portion
Please ask Honda if You can do some filming inside from an owners perspective. Im sure the service is first class and they should be happy promoting. I would love to see what its like.
Question for you or the group. I know how Vnav works but can you explain when one activities it while on IFR flight plan & ATC tells you when & how far to decend. If you see TOD approaching but ATC hasn't yet cleared you to defend how does that work?
I use VNAV in 3 specific instances. 1) on an Arrival where there are altitudes set for specific nav points. I set the bottom altitude for the arrival and activate VNAV. 2) Same as the arrival but on a Departure. Set the Top Altitude. 3) ATC tell you to be at a specific altitude at a specific point. I settle altitude for that point (in the G3000) and (activate) VNAV to that point.
Small world when u mentioned Premier 1 Driver, have watched his vids. Now, I drive a Honda car so of course I like Honda Jets! Have 124 hrs of real flight time, but awhile ago and never finished, unfortunately. Only 2 things minor things I can mention about your video. At the start when you were outside the jet, the sound wasn't great. Secondly, the camera on the left pointing out you have set at a weird angle, like crooked. Other than that, just a bit green with envy you flying this beautiful machine!
Hi, any digital screen has a refresh pattern to it. Cameras, even video cameras capture a series pictures at a specific Frames Per Second setting. The rolling and flickering in the videos is where those two overlap. So I'm searching for better settings on the GoPro cameras since I can't change the rate on the Garmin G3000
Nice video thanks for posting only critique would be the voiceover part was over driven Not sure if it's in the edit or not but may just need to be further away from the Mic when making those. the rest of the video was great
How do you or more importantly do those who sit in the right seat like the pedestal yokes? I figured not an issue for the pilot but a non-pilot sitting up front?
Great question. Cockpit is designed really well, but there's a skill to getting in and out of the seat. I'm just a tad taller than 6'3" and I'm now more committed than ever to getting more flexible. If the seat was able to slide aft just a few more inches, it would help. As far as the copilot seat and the controls go, zero complaints so far...but I'll ask.
The one thing that would drive me crazy is trying to keep all the com voices straight and recognize when they were addressing me versus others As far as what I’d like to see A camera higher in the cockpit looking forward to see more of what’s out front Some history on how you came to decide on the plane. Did you buy new or used? Do you have it in a fleet with NetJets or someone like that?
Good questions and comments. I like the camera recommendation and I've already tried that on a few flights. One which I'm trying to get published today. I'd appreciate you checking back and letting me know. I'll get to the stuff about me later on, for now I like focusing on the jet
Sorry to disappoint but I am not a fan of the Honda jet. As a retired Mx Tech, Inspector of a Honda jet MRO, everyone at the facility runs away from the Honda jet. Many of the jets are running off the end of the runway due to a few things, two of which are no TR’s, small tires with high pressure, thus little surface contact especially when the runway is wet and icy. To get to anything especially interior the panels are inter-layered, so you have to depanel everything to get behind just one of the panels. Just one more example of many. To jack the aircraft, you have to carefully remove the paint and sealant around the main jack point panels and hopefully you do not strip a stainless steel screw, because that is where the fun begins. then after the task is complete and after the panels are installed. Reseal wait 24 hrs, repaint wait another 24 hrs or more. Just to do a simple thing like jacking the aircraft. If money and wait time is no object, the the Honda jet is the plane for you. Most pilots like them, technicians hat then. I like working on the engines.
Not disappointed at all, I appreciate the candor. Keep in mind that I was an AH-64 guy so to me, the HJ is a dream to maintain which doesn't mean that it's even close to perfect. Just my perspective. Thanks for taking the time to watch and leave a comment. Please keep the comments coming
Great video. You did well. “Citation Max” is another RUclipsr you can use as a datapoint. His videos are done pretty well. As for windshields, are the jagged-edge(s) acoustic treatment? I’m an aero-engineer and have used features similarity to modify acoustics. Just curious. Good Luck on the channel.
Yep. Can do. That's a flight I'm really looking forward to flying. My issue is that I don't have a HF radio which is required. I'm working to see if CPDLC will suffice.
No APU and I didn't have access to a GPU. The last aircraft I flew with an APU was the AH-64. The HondaJet is very easy to fly precisely due to how advanced it is technically.
I"ve never flown a plane... If I could dedicate the time, how long would it take for someone like me to learn to fly a honda jet? Take into consideration I am a medium-fast learner....
So many factors...so, it depends. Private Pilot Rating Instrument Rating Multi-Engine Rating Most people who fly the HondaJet have >2000 hours of flight time. But there are always exceptions! Go for it
I would like know how a army rotor pilot made the coin to own a Hondajet? Congratulations on getting there to own one but always interested in the back story. Spent hours working on that. Tried different settings on next 2 videos. A little better but not yet right.
Very nice first flight video.
Thanks Bill. Working on fixing ng a few things. Hopefully have another video up this weekend. Editing is a lot harder than expected.
Thanks. Yep. Figured it out in Final Cut Pro. I appreciate the insight & encouragement

I fly this plane in msfs2020. Would love to fly this for real one day. Starting my ppl journey in April 2023. Great video and your a great pilot 👍
Please keep me posted on your PPL progress
@@bluemaxsix certainly will. Thanks!
amazing stuff i often wonder what people do for a living that can afford to own and fly a jet, i cant even afford to hire a cessna 172 any more LOL, we are so blessed that you share this stuff with us
Thank you. I feel both blessed and grateful. I also recognize that it's 'only for a moment'. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@bluemaxsix I feel blessed to be able to watch you and fly this amazing plane in my sim also
@@wayne9638 I've heard the MSFS HondaJet is awesome
@@bluemaxsix it really is outstanding
Some video of the passenger experience in the Hondajet would be awesome
Well I'll let my wife and daughters know. They love riding in the back. I'm told it's nice back there
Cheers from Colorado. Nice video
Thanks for watching.
Greetings from the other side of the state near KHSP. Enjoyed the video and look forward to more.
Love flying into Hot Springs. Thanks for watching
Thanks for sharing. Love the video
Thank you...and thanks for subscribing. Work in progress but more coming soon.
Great first video! Love the Honda Jet! Thanks for sharing.
Fun jet. Thanks
Greased it!! ❤️👏
Grateful!
We all enjoy hearing the engines spool up upon ignition. If you're going to invest in any new cameras, with the Garmin cameras, you can overlay speed, etc, on to video just fyi. Good luck with the channel, love the plane, let's go fly'in
Thanks, I'm working on sorting out a lot of the tips offered by you all
thanks so much for sharing you jet with us.
I like it can't wait to see your amphibian type and miles from point A to B
Huh?
Nice sound quality
Hah. Yup
Best of luck with your channel - enjoyed this video
Thanks Terry
Hello from Perry-Houston Ga Airport. Like following the Honda Jet. Would like to see more close up instruments in use. Explination of the various landing approaches. VNAV, GPS , I follow other RUclips flights and just looking out windows gets old. I know its sometimes nice scenery but like more navigation.
You got it! (might also want to check some of our earlier videos). I'm setting up for that exact plan this morning.
Very cool video. Thank you for posting. Keep it going. One comment: check the Pan (L/R) on your audio feed.
Thanks. Yep, I already got schooled on that one too. Video editing is brutally time consuming.
I like this video - so I subscribed. If you look you can find how to set the cameras so they record images in sync with the screens in your cockpit. That way they don't flash. Usually there is a RUclips video on how to do it.
I hear you. Working on it. Issue is the refresh rate in my avionics. Work in progress. Thanks for subscribing and leaving a comment
Beautiful jet! Wow!
Thanks. It's a little bit more bling than I like but it'll do
BTW! Your daughter has good taste!! Charleston is my favorite city too!!
Charleston is constantly reinventing herself but remains the one place that feels like home to me.
@@bluemaxsix my son has his boat at the Charleston Resort Marina near the Yorktown! He gets the best of both worlds, just north of broad and the resort! If you love ❤️ Charleston I hope you’ve read my favorite author, Pat Conroy!
Friend of mine, Chad Brooks, flew Apaches up till 2 yrs ago
Love the observations. Spot on. Already working on those. Some issues when pushing from video to RUclips but working to get those corrected.
Doing a great job for first video, and if you’re following P1D’s lead and style everything should be great. Love your aircraft. Subbed. Thx.
Yea, P1D's content is spot on. He's been gracious enough to offer a few tips. There's still some issues unique to the HJ (screen rolling) that I'm judt going to have to experiment to get sorted out.
@@bluemaxsix Yes, that's tough when trying to figure out the fps settings on your cameras with glass panels to make them produce the best video.
So cool. I love Honda jets, but I’ll have to be happy with my Champ for now😂
Love the Aeronca!
Nice video Tim, nice use of the electronic checklist. Would love to fly in this jet! Cal
Thanks Cal
I will give you a thumbs up and a new subscriber on that one.
Thanks so much! Greatly appreciated
Great video! Really helpful because I like to fly this aircraft in msfs
Great. I'll keep posting my flight plans so you can fly along
@@bluemaxsix Thanks, that’ll be awesome!
Please ask Honda if You can do some filming inside from an owners perspective. Im sure the service is first class and they should be happy promoting. I would love to see what its like.
Great question. Im working on a video now (way overdue) that shows some of the cabin. I hope you'll enjoy it
Question for you or the group.
Timely video....I'm flying into KFCI next week
Good deal. If you see me, please say hello. Use Dominion Aviation!
@@bluemaxsix Will do
We're not hardcto miss on the ramp. Very subtle red and white

Heck, let's go halves!
@@bluemaxsix LOL
New subscriber, good job.
Thanks Pete, appreciate it.
Go back and finish! That's what we call a no-regret decision. Thanks for the advice...agree on both.
Interesting that the parking brake is labeled "Emergency Brake". What's up with that?
Good eyes. It's both...like in a car. It can be deployed if you have a Normal Brakes Fail CAS
What make the cockpit screens, flash? Why do they do that?
Hi, any digital screen has a refresh pattern to it. Cameras, even video cameras capture a series pictures at a specific Frames Per Second setting. The rolling and flickering in the videos is where those two overlap.
So I'm searching for better settings on the GoPro cameras since I can't change the rate on the Garmin G3000
@@bluemaxsix Ok thanks. I got it now.
Nice video thanks for posting only critique would be the voiceover part was over driven Not sure if it's in the edit or not but may just need to be further away from the Mic when making those. the rest of the video was great
Thanks for watching. Yep, too close to the mic. Rookie mistake...amongst others. But working on it.
@@bluemaxsix
Thanks I was curious as I have friends with an M2 and that’s their o Lu complaint of the plane, thought maybe Honda may modified it?
The one thing that would drive me crazy is trying to keep all the com voices straight and recognize when they were addressing me versus others
As far as what I’d like to see
A camera higher in the cockpit looking forward to see more of what’s out front
Some history on how you came to decide on the plane.
Nice video, need camera's positioned for better view out front windscreens to see runway an scenery outside.
Thanks. Appreciate the feedback. Hopefully we did better on the following flights. Please take a look when we post and let us know.
nice :)))
Thanks. Just posted and more coming next week.
what does "back taxi" mean?
Back-Taxi means that you're using a runway to taxi in lieu of a Taxiway. So you're in the opposite direction of the runway.
@citationmax is a total baller. The sawtooth pattern on the main windscreen is a part of the window heat and anti-ice. Plus, it looks awesome.
curious why you switched to Jepperson
I found that the systems worked better with Jepp. I'm a huge Garmin fan for sure, but the process of getting data uploaded favored Jepp.
great vid, narration mic to hot and also mono, cockpit mic is also mono but the volume is good.
Thanks for watching and commenting. You're spot on.
You're based in Virginia? Can you make it to Bermuda with required reserves & alt?
Yep. Can do. That's a flight I'm really looking forward to flying. My issue is that I don't have a HF radio which is required. I'm working to see if CPDLC will suffice.
No APU or just Electric? easy too fly?
No APU and I didn't have access to a GPU. The last aircraft I flew with an APU was the AH-64. The HondaJet is very easy to fly precisely due to how advanced it is technically.
Based on the mic quality in the first 5 seconds alone, yup this is a pilot .😆
I know, I know. Rookie mistake.
The basic’s are there, just needs a little more work. . . Looking forward to more.
You're being kind...and I'll take it! Thanks
Great job on your first video. Can’t wait for more content. Safe travels!!! 👍
Thanks so much. Working on it. Wish I had the bandwidth to film more of our flights.
I"ve never flown a plane... If I could dedicate the time, how long would it take for someone like me to learn to fly a honda jet? Take into consideration I am a medium-fast learner....
So many factors...so, it depends.
Private Pilot Rating
Instrument Rating
Multi-Engine Rating
Most people who fly the HondaJet have >2000 hours of flight time.
But there are always exceptions! Go for it
I would like know how a army rotor pilot made the coin to own a Hondajet? Congratulations on getting there to own one but always interested in the back story. Also new to the channel and just subscribed. I’m ex Australian army (20 years service) and now a Private pilot and owner and pilot of a Little light sport plane.
