At 0:30, isn't there a background instrument from "Liquid Negrocity" (Or from it's successor "Black")? The background... trumpets/sax? You can also her them at 0:58. Edit: Now that I checked, it's from neither directly (That I can tell), but I swear I've heard that descending trumpet/sax in some other song. Maybe it's the "Three in the Morning" initial piano section?
the difference is only a couple of notes. as for doctor taking from penumbra phantasm... I honestly don't know. I always thought they were two separate songs that miraculously sounded perfect together.
most other homestuck songs don't have nearly this much jam-packed into them. descend is sort of special in that regard. however, i did do eternity served cold as a test for the program I later made this video in... maybe I'll dig it out.
@@1cbear745 I'm about halfway through, and I can say that what I've heard of the HS soundtrack so far has been very good, made by Toby or otherwise. Then again, he's composed like 2/3 of the OST at this point I'm at
I mean, there is literally no point of this song that is without another songs leitmotif. It's using the collage to make something unique. despite exclusively being made up of other songs, descend has its own unique cadence, energy, and progression. so so so good
Being a collage does not diminish its artistic value! I imagine it takes significantly more effort to merge like ten different songs into something that not only sounds good but has a building narrative than it would have been to just make something original.
This has more motifs than the whole Undertale ost
This personally shows that TobyFox is a god when it comes to working with Lemotifs
right? and this was really early in his career!
Toby fox changed my brain chemistry

@@1cbear745I kind of saw it as Penumbra being a song to go with Doctor, like how Toby once tried to do a song called Patient
could you do this for some other homestuck songs I love this so much

i'm the 413 liker!
This is cool but at what point does it stop being a song and just becomes a collage of other songs
