    Hi Adam, another great video. The first drill which involved slowly pushing the club away from you is a brilliant idea, which I will try. The second one with a club behind your back is a great one which I will try. This is where my game lets me down and I will practice these drills until I’ve mastered it. Keep these brilliant videos coming and I will always watch them.

    Love your instructional videos. I can't tell you how much they've helped me. I'm hitting shots like I never have before. I only wish I had gained this knowledge when I was younger and playing a lot. I got good but it was mostly through endless practice and "feel" which would come and go and leave me confused at times. Your paid material is a steal. Where I live 1 single lesson costs up to $200/hr! Thanks!

    Wow! Great video. I've always wanted a more compact/efficient swing but struggled to find the right feel at the top. I am a classic overswinger who sets really late. The trail hand pushing out was a great feel to get extension and a good set a the top of the swing. I tried the drill and have had a couple of range sessions. Always cautious of claiming a golf tip the holy grail, but I was flushing irons consistently high and straight. It felt a lot more 'in control'. The only club I struggled with was the driver. Dead pulls.

    great video! one thing i struggle with is getting a good feel for how loose my arms should be. there's always this general advice about 'swinging loose' but i'm seeing how much my arms 'extend' during the downswing compared to the backswing . is this observation just me, have you heard this come up from folks? thanks!

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  19 дней назад

      These things have to be dialed in. Try some
      Smooth swings extra loose, then firmer etc. filming it would be helpful. Try to dial in the best mix you can

    Over-swinging causes a lot of problems for me. Over the top, hitting fat and thin, slicing, hooking…yikes. But if I have a good take away and only go back until I feel a bit of tension in my waist, I hit it dead straight and far. I feel like the club is only waist high and think about hitting a hard pitch shot. Works every time. Thanks.

    I have a seriously overswing backswing with left arm near 11 o'clock position resulting in a reverse C. I will try these tips. I thought I have shortened my swing to half swing but I was really surprised to see on video that my swing is exactly the same as before. My goal is to have my left arm in the 9:30 to 10:00 o'clock position at the top of the backswing.

  • @gregwilson6980

    I've been working on this for over forty years. I have a really fast tempo similar to Lanny Wadkins. I sometimes overswing and dip the club at the top. Not nearly as much as Daly but I can see the head of my driver slightly in my left eye in the backswing. When this bounce happens my lower body gets out in front and I have no choice but to flip the club to get it back to the ball. When I control the backswing, I control the flip.

    Thanks, Adam! Exactly the topic I was hoping you'd cover... I can make perfect practice swings, but when I'm over the ball - the overswing (and slight pause at the top) come in to play. Wondering if that's more mental than anything...

    • @Scratchgolfacademy

    Good morning Adam!!! You suggested this upward push drill for me in a one-on-one lesson last year. It occurred to me that when I am doing it, as in my actual golf swing, I felt I was pushing more with my left hand to get wrist hinge. Should I start making the change? I can definitely feel the difference. Thank you.

      Nice to hear from you Todd. I think it's up to the golfer as to exactly how they feel things in their swing, or what triggers help them move the way they should. So, if it's helping (I'd film it and have a look) than I think it's fine.

    One of the best tips ever...I was looking to compact my swing a little, without success. Then I seen Adam's tip with regard to feeling the pressure (right handed golfer) of the right hand palm against the left hand thumb. with instant results. I now have a shorter back swing with the club on plane and a neutral club face. with the result I'm more consistent off the tee and my longer irons are better. this is the Holy Grail of golf tips. thanks Adam.

  • @alandavidson8717

    Worked amazingly for me, 1st range session I pretty much stopped over swinging. Tighter dispersion and better flight. Only thing is I lost about 8/10 yards on most irons. Put this down to not feeling comfortable as my old swing. I'm sure distance will come like my old swing, you think?

    As a righthander that plays lefty I really dont know what my trail arm is offering to the swing. Im hitting ok as a mid to high handicapper, just have to strengthen my grip with the driver to stop big slices. Im probably pulling the club with my lead right hand. Should I exercise my left arm by trying to hit the ball without using my right or just keep practicing/playing with both? Single hand right, both left, have been all my life.

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  4 года назад

      It's not really about what someone keys on, the ball only reacts to the club. Play around with some feels to see what works for you (feels will change over time).

    I normally try not to use much wrist during my swing and time the impact w body. I noticed that giving a little pressure at the top w my right wrist naturally involved a little more wrist during my downswing and started closing the face a lot more.
    Do you recommend this “feel” of right hand pushing out during an actual swing?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  2 года назад

      Bryan,
      Feels are really for the individual to work out. What’s important is why happens. If it looks better on film and you’re getting more pop I’d go with it.

    A reminder....hips must turn with shoulders, in sync, on takeaway, to acheive proper turn and club position. No hips= out of sync=over-the-top downswing, even if your club position, at pause/top of desired backswing is accomplished. Short irons not as demanding, but still a timing factor. Pushing right hand(righties) against left thumb at top of desired backswing is a great feel tool for hinged full shots. Bobby Jones mentioned it as did Hogan. However, not advised for punch/low burner shots. Thanks for the vid. I sure do miss bermuda grass....and most of Florida for that matter.

    So does Freddy Couples overswing?

    • @Scratchgolfacademy
      @Scratchgolfacademy  4 года назад

      There have been many great players who had long swings, certainly Freddy among them. They all had good width, reasonably stable lower bodies, great balance etc. The average older recreational player often can't make a long swing without losses in the categories I mentioned. That said......without reasonable length of backswing it's hard for most people to get enough speed.
