I've been crocheting a long time--I became very ill a few years back, started to lose fine motor skills, and had surgery on my neck. So I taught myself how to crochet to pass the time since I was stuck in bed and to try to maintain as much fine motor skills in my hands as possible. It really kept me sane through everything!!

I feel like it was yesterday watching this for the first time. Finally picking back up my crochet hook and I've had this video in the back of my mind the whole time because the explanation of how to go to the next row made so much sense to me.
I love when you interview other crafters. I learn so much and go down avenues of crafting I never thought about before.

Great video! When I am crocheting flat pieces I like to crochet from the "butt" end on the foundation row instead of the V, so that I have a braided-looking edge on both the top and the bottom of my work. After I tried it that way it has become my go-to method.
I just thought that might be a trick you guys would like to try out.

When I move of from the foundation to the first row I like to what Debbie Stoller calls "the back-door Betty" where you crochet in the "butt" of the chain stitch. I think it looks much cleaner in the end. It also happens to much easier :)

Um, if this is how you authentically crochet then there are hundreds of us doing it wrong! I was bout taught lunge thus and I haven't seen any one I the YT teaching this way. But she looks like she been crocheting all her life... :-(
There are many ways to crochet. As long as you have the outcome you desire, you are winning! I think knowing more of an accurate technique helps if you are following a pattern.
