    I have very distint memories of seeing "Chicken on the Tracks" in school, and actually came across your video while trying to see if anyone had discussed it in the lost media community. NJT hosted an assembly at my middle school where the film was shown in our auditorium, I believe around 2013-14. The presenters specified that the film was outdated and would soon be replaced. A lot of what people were saying about it online aligns with what I remember - for example, one of the kids' fathers having an impressive model railroad in his basement. Another image that stuck with me was that one of the kids was seen repeatedly walking around with a boombox on his shoulder, which of course really added to the film's dated nature.
    Anyway, in terms of the graphic content, there's two things I remember. One shot I don't see a lot of people talking about was a bit where one of the kids threw a rock at a train and ended up hitting the engineer with it, leaving him with a large gash in his forehead. The more infamous moment, where the kids are hit by the train, isn't necessarily as graphic as people describe - the film cuts to black before they get his. However, it then cuts to a shot of police investigating the crime scene, and you can see medical workers carrying body bags in the background, so the implications are still pretty gruesome. I actually remember a friend of mine at the time said that the film made her terrified of crossing railroad tracks, because she was afraid she'd get stuck in the middle of a crossing with a train barreling towards her and be unable to get away in time.
    In terms of finding the film, I think the best option would be to contact NJT directly. I don't believe the film was shown outside of schools, so it's unlikely that a home recording would exist. The possibility also exists of a former NJT employee having a copy, but I'm doubtful. In my eyes, it would make sense for NJT to archive and publish the film - I know a lot of other transit operators have published old PSAs and safety films. Either way, sorry for the long wall of text, I just wanted to contribute my two cents to the discussion, since this is a piece of lost media that I've been hoping would resurface for years now, and one I have distinct memories of.

      You might be onto something. Rail safety PSAs aren't anything new, and ones that are either unsettling or downright traumatized are also not uncommon (see the unconfirmed Hitogata or American rail safety films from the 80s to the 90s), and based on your detailed account I'm inclined to believe it might actually exist out there.
      I don't remember exactly, but I think I may have seen a very similar film in school, although it also very well have been a generic rail safety film for all I know.
      I think the best bet is for more detailed accounts recollecting the PSA to come out, and then contacting NJT to confirm its existence or not.

    Existence unconfirmed lost media is a category that not many people talk about, I think it may do the fact that since it may not exist people may not be interested in looking for it unless it’s really interesting like Saki Sanobashi and Higogata

      @@ClubRebelScum I can relate to that feeling. I was quite a responsible kid and I always knew to be safe, but being shown several horrific PSAs about cars and trains, etc. has made me afraid to even be around them. I live in the English countryside so I don’t come across trains very often, but we went up to London once when I was around eight and I remember having terrifying visions of death while we were travelling on the Underground because of some of the videos and stories I’d seen and heard.

    There's actually several lost trains safety cartoons/flims out there.
    There's atleast 2 I know of:
    1. Otto Nobetter and the Railroad Gang, which is about some kid throwing a rock at a passenger train, and then his taught in a dream about railroad safety. I know there's a comic of it out there though. It was produced by the Baltimore and Ohio railroad and shown to kids in schools along the line.
    2. Wile E Coyote and Roadrunner "Double Track" psa
    This was an animated PSA produced by Observation Lifesaver where the Coyote stands on a track behind a moving train, so when the train passes, he catches him. This backfires when another train comes on his track and hits him. Not to be confused with a similar one uploaded by Internet Lurker.

    • @francishollingshead2134
      @francishollingshead2134 Год назад +1

      The Wil E. Coyote and Road Runner PSA (the name of the organization is actually Operation Lifesaver) would had to have been licensed by Warner Bros. (or whatever the name of the company was at the time). So that means that it's possible that Warner Bros. has a copy or knows where a copy would be found. For that matter Operation Lifesaver could potentially have a copy.
      If this was shown on television, you could also try and look through old commercial breaks on RUclips to see if any of them contain the PSA.

    I was in elementary school in the early 2000's. And I remember watching a Train Safety PSA that was more watered-down. I believe it was on a VHS tape.
    All I remember is a recreation of a pedestrian train accident. Kid was on his way to school and decided to climb in between the box cars on the train.
    He fell. And the scene cut to him lying flat. While another train passed through in the background.
    At the end of the film, there was a guy who said he was the kid from the accident. He was in a wheelchair and was in a classroom. Kids and a few firemen were in the background.
    And he was in the center. He basically concluded the video saying, "Please don't play around trains."
    I think that's what he said.

    I’m enthusiastic with trains, these PSAs about trains can get pretty serious, considering how trains and tracks are no play zones and are dangerous, there was a PSA I think still up in youtube which showed a worker being hit by one of the boxcars from the train, or people screaming in the car before a train hits there car on a railroad crossing, so this would probably be disturbing as it sounds, I wouldn’t be surprised.

    I would have liked to have seen footage from the lost train video; the slow buildup and the posts and inquiries about it seemed to imply we were going to get that. I know we can't always get what we want, but the buildup of a controversial and graphic train safety PSA followed by some lost tracks by another stupid hippity-hopper (could the oversaturated genre just DIE already?) was a big letdown.

    • @IVR02
      @IVR02 Год назад +1

      Unfortunately, that's the problem with the film... I don't think any footage is publicly available. To my knowledge, NJT would've only shown it in schools, so it's unlikely that anyone outside of the organization would have a copy. I recall seeing it in middle school, and it was the sort of thing where employees of NJT came in and showed the film in our school's auditorium. My point being, I don't think it would've been possible to show footage of the film because it's something out of public hands.
