My favorite scene was the one in the mirror with Emma smiling as well! Such a beautiful and sweet ending...showing that she's always there for her...Emma you are amazing! Thank you!
Thanks so much! I also am still fascinated by it and love it dearly!! If you’d like, check out my interviews with Return to Oz composer David Shire & wheeler Pons Maar, too! 💚🎃
Me too! I remember even 25 years ago renting it at a video store and when I went to return it they were permanently closed so I got to keep the vhs tape! My sister and I watched it over and over again in 1985. Miss that time so much!
Emma needed some more scenes.Thats my biggest complaint about the film.Cause in Ozma of Oz there was more Ozma in the book.I think it would of been Epic to see Ozma on a Chariot riding across the desert, with the Lion, and Tiger pulling it.Ofcourse money was limited for this picture. But still, she should of had more scenes.Although I still like the film.
Wow, how/where did you find all the footage featuring Emma's original voice? Great interview, i thoroughly enjoyed hearing Ozma's anecdotes and memories from all those years ago about making such a special and beloved movie.
Brilliant interview, it's often a great seeing an interviewer as enthusiastic about the topic as the star is but this was exceptionally good as it was professionally done yet especially wholesome. Great job, man
Whoever dubbed her voice in the movie did excellent work, and it served the film beautifully because she sounds so ethereal. If they had used Emma's real voice, it would have taken away from the character's effect IMO.
Absolutely - her voice was almost comical (not making fun, she was just a child), but the dubbing voice sounded both childlike and mature. I had no idea it was dubbed until now!
Indeed. I was very surprised to learn that. It was very well done, and the voice they used (Beatrice Murch) was just beautiful. Emma was such a lovely girl, and particularly when she looked sad, which was most of the time, your heart just went out to her.
There's something so ethereal about ozma, Emma's beautiful face and acting. It's just really special. Don't you think? There's something very deep and special.about this whole movie and the characters. I hope that Emma realizes this.👍♥️
Glad i found this, great memories, i trained the live chickens & Toto (Tansy). Remember the scene where Toto was following Dorothy in the buggy when she was going to the hospital & she had to stop & whimper, got it in the can first time! it wasn't just the human actors who were good.
this was fantastic! I love the cult fantasy/fairy tale films of the 80's. Return to OZ is one of my favorites. Great to see "Ozma" has fond memories of the making of the movie :)
I think, that they dubbed her voice because Emma's voice sounded positive and happy and the dubbed voice always struck me as subdued and haunted. Both are very received pronunciation and lovely. I actually really like the dubbing.
You did a great job with this- you seem very comfortable which just makes this seem like two old friends catching up and it was great to watch! Especially loved that you were able to slip in footage I haven't even seen before and provided new insights on such a classic.
Thank you so much! I appreciate the kind feedback as an interviewer, but also - it makes me feel very proud that you received this as I had hoped it would be... enjoyed by Return to Oz fans who enjoy behind the scenes info!
Oh my goodness! She’s so beautiful! She was lovely then and she’s amazing now! Thank you for this! Edit: also her gold dress looks SO much like Gustav Klimts’ art.
What a great interview, thank you very much for making this. Your passion and enthusiasm shine through :) As a kid I was crazy about Ozma! Great to know she is a fan too. And wow, it wasn't her voice and she's a fellow Brit! That's a shock! :)
Does anyone else know about a possible remake or documentary about the film? I was on a website several months and it stated something on quote: " bringing RTO back to life!" ?? I am such a huge fan of this movie so I wouldn't want to miss any opportunity of it. Thanks for the interview. She's lovely!
Does anyone think about the fact this movie had been out for years before we were old enough to see it, let alone appreciate how special it is. Imagine being the right age to see it at the cinema 😲
@@melissacooper4282 the dubbing was with an British accent. I actually really love the dubbed voice a d I understand why they changed it. Wild though, that his daughter did it perfectly.
I have a question. there is a scene near the end of the movie when all the statues are turning back to human theres a woman reading a book do you no if she is nicole kidman? loved the interview it was great
They should have kept her original voice and not dubbed it. To me her voice has that royalty presence and physique that couldve added more originality to that character
I wanted to know how she came to be picked to do the part? Or how she was found being that she's British? When did she start acting as a child, was this her first movie?

I cannot believe they dubbed her voice over. I had no idea until watching this video.
Pretty crazy that this was her first interview about Return to Oz.
I’m almost 40 and I still have a childlike fascination with Ozma. This movie was brilliant and still my favorite 35+ years later. Great interview!

Ardanrath that would have been so beautiful and mesmerizing.
Thanx for sharing I always loved Ozma and found her so mysterious. Emma seems lovely.
Emma: “the only advice I really got was I was her [Fairuza] big sister.”
Emma Ridley and Fairuza Balk…for ever cinematic sisters!
Wow Emma played Ozma so well she does looks great the cast did a great job as well.
Loved Return to Oz. OZMA was stunning.

What a lovely interview with Emma. Thank you so much for sharing this with the fans. One of my favourite nostalgic magical films of all time.
How did I not discover this until five years after its published. I love it!!!

I thought it was her own voice.

Fascinating interview.
What a wonderful woman and a wonderful film.

I had no idea that river scene was on a sound stage! I guess I never thought twice about it 😄

My favorite movie as a child and I still watch it today! She is absolutely beautiful!! 💚
I forgot how good the music score is in this movie. One of my fave movies from the 80s.
Thanks! Here’s my interview about the score with composer David Shire: ruclips.net/video/LGcfIMoJa6s/видео.html
Danggggg she turned out to be so glamorous, a VERY hip chic indeed. One gorgeous cougar.

I want to watch the whole movie with Emma's real voice.
This was fabulous! Great insights well done 😊
Come on Disney. Give this movie some love. 4K restoration and documentary!
Yes please! Great idea 😁
Sony and Disney uhd 4k be cool

Spectacular, Ryan. Very well done!

So much fun, love it!
Ozma is favorite character out of all the books and movie
Great interview with a lot of interesting tidbits - thank you!

Seems fun down to earth good luck to her
She looks a bit like Bonnie Tyler I keep expecting her to sing Holding Out for a Hero
She sounds like bonnie as well
@@deerheart87 she dose lol
Ahh this is wholesome. I wonder why they dubbed her voice
Probably because she couldn't get the American accent down.
@@melissacooper4282 the dubbing was with an British accent. I actually really love the dubbed voice a d I understand why they changed it. Wild though, that his daughter did it perfectly.
She sounds like Lindsey Lohan trying to do her British accent
That sucks they removed Emma's voice.
They did the same thing with Jeff East, who played the young Clark Kent in Superman the movie, Christopher Reeve dubbed his voice.
I loved this.
Much better with Emma's voice.
😳
She said that wrong she said Elstree Studio it's actually Pinewood where the Bond films were filmed
i didnt even have to ask who she was she is ozma
Had the tape & book thing back in the '80s...Read Along i think it was called 🤔..... wow, had a crush on the Princess
fascinating!
As a boy I used to stare into my parents bedside mirror trying to make Fairuza appear 🙈
Have you had a chance to interview any of the other cast members from Return to Oz?
+Jacob Turner I haven't yet interviewed other cast members but would love to someday! Thanks for watching!
Ryan Jay Too bad Nicol Williamson has since passed on.
Check out my new interview with Wheeler Pons Maar & Return to Oz Composer David Shire :)
@@RyanJayReviews I'll check it out.
I have a question. there is a scene near the end of the movie when all the statues are turning back to human theres a woman reading a book do you no if she is nicole kidman? loved the interview it was great
I know exactly who you're talking about. It is not Nicole Kidman tho.
There are three movies of "The Wizard of Oz." Which one did Emma mean?
They should have kept her original voice and not dubbed it. To me her voice has that royalty presence and physique that couldve added more originality to that character
they should have kept her voice
yeah the accent is barely all that different anyway, as everyone talks a bit affected anyway.
I don’t think the Queen of Oz would sound like a cockney
Maybe "My Fair Lady"
7:43 stud working the hose lol
I had no idea was she dubbed
I don't know if I've seen such good dubbing. Compare to the dubbing of Glenne Headly in Paperhouse.
I wanted to know how she came to be picked to do the part? Or how she was found being that she's British? When did she start acting as a child, was this her first movie?
💚🙏🏻
Who did the original interview that you edited yourself into? It's obvious that you have never been in the same room as Emma.
