We just purchased a 2022 Ram BigHorn 1500 with a sport pkg. It's a Quad Cab with the 6'4" bed as we haul more stuff than need room for people. We traded even up for our 2019 2500 Diesel, crew cab, 8" bed, just too big of a truck as all we pull now is our 4k boat, our 5er is stationery. Compared to each other and our previously owned 1500, the ride on the 2022 is a joy. This is our first vehicle with a touch screen. As much as we love technology, it definitely has more features that we would ever use. Wouldn't it be cool if there was a way to make that whole area as a plug and play box of your choice of digital or manual settings to be installed at time of delivery. We are long time Dodge/Ram owners.
I like the 8.4 screen that’s in my 2021 Ram 1500 limited!! Only truck I’ve ever drives 11 hr and felt like I wasn’t beat up. I drive a GMC Sierra for work 2018 and the Ram beets it hands down in every category in my opinion!!
Wait...the new body style 2021 comes with an 8.4 standard? I was told no by the GM of my dealership and it's not even an option on the brand new 2022. Are you sure you have the limited? Or do you have the 2021 classic 1500?
I absolutely hate touchscreens having everything on it. I'm 27, love computers so its not age but it's a big distraction. When I was getting my ram express worked on I got a loaner of the warlock and hated the touchscreen.
Touchscreens are just something to get used to. Most of the more important, commonly used controls still have buttons/knobs. For me, I've got Android Auto up top (which is really only like having it on a 7-inch-ish screen) and climate controls on the bottom so I can easily switch around where the air comes from. Heated seats and steering wheel are permanently up top and easy to get to and use. I really don't see the issue. Now, NO buttons or knobs AT ALL would be a bad idea. But there's a reason even top end $1300 touchscreen smartphones still have some buttons on them.
My neibour has the large screen in his Ram and the only time he complains about it is when it is around -25 degrees Celsius and he can't control the heat because the touch screen won't work. On my friends truck we installed a set of Tuf Truck HD coil Variable Rate Rear Springs in his 2016 Outdoorsman with the factory 1" lift. Part # 1223VT, the truck has a good ride empty but the biggest difference is when he pulls the trailer. The truck is a lot more stable with less sway when being passed by a semi, there was a lot less squat when the trailer is lowered on the ball we had to reset up his equalizer hitch. a win win in my books. 1223 VT has a 1.5" lift and 1223 V is stock height.
I just bought a 2021 Ford Edge, it has a 12" display which controls the heat and air, audio, phone has wireless Android Auto included. It is way to busy, I like a 8" screen with some features but this is crazy. There is nothing wrong with having to push a button or turning a knob. I will get over the big screen but it will take some time.
Interested in this truck. I need to get another 1/2 ton and have held off because I don't want all the bells and whistles or price of the new lineup from the major players. I love the screen with buttons...muscle memory is key. I really like the split rear bed door. A smooth ride is ideal since I do drive 1500 miles frequently from north to south and back again. I have a variety of things I need to pull such as my tool trailer at 5000 lbs, small toyhauler at 6500 lbs, and utility trailer with miscellaneous items such as riding lawn mower, larger snowblower, and kayaks (total weight around 2700 lbs max). I also like the placement of rear step-assist as I am vertically challenged. Consequently, I love running boards! The height variability is important for me as I have to travel off-road on unplowed roads in winter and sometimes deeper sand when camping with family. While the chrome is a very nice feature, I would have liked a little less of it. I have to eventually retire my Expedition with 314,000 miles, heavy-duty tow and still on the first engine (5.4) as my all-around. This would meet most of my checklist. I would just need to retrofit my 6 CD changer into this as I like my own travel music and audio books. (Yes, I have Sirius in other vehicles and still prefer my CDs.) I do use my map feature in my Class B so I would continue using that and appreciate the smaller, non-obtrusive screen in this Ram. Others have gotten ridiculously large and a road hazard, IMHO.
Bought 2022 10th Anniversary Ram Limited and we love it. Ride is great, split tailgate is super nice option to have, as far as the "large" touch screen I am learning to use what I want and leave out the rest. The interior is nice, glad to get away from black or dark for a change. After 3000 miles no issues, have pulled our 7,500lb travel trailer some 500 miles and the truck does the job! My 3rd Ram truck so I am a believer in the brand but owned Fords and to me Ram much better. Also this is my 3rd V-8 Hemi this one is e-torque equipped, extra torque is nice. Have read concerns about Ram reliability, have had one count them one issue beyond normal wear and that was front end parts on my 1997 Ram, costs me near a $1000 for repairs, not too bad for 15 years of Ram ownership.
Just ordered my 8th Ram since the style change in 1995. Sprinkled in between two 2500's, the original 1995 V-10, a 2021 Power Wagon, one diesel, and 5 - 1500s were a couple luxury SUV types (1 Diesel VW, and one M5 BMW). So wide range of vehicles for me to draw my experiences and preferences from. The Air Suspension driven ride in the Ram 1500 is second only to our BMW 750X drive-and not by much. The Ram is as quiet as the Autobahn storming 750 on normal roads. We fell in love with the new color interior color set up on the 10th Anniversary Package. I never liked the Black Only interior of the Limited and twice "settled" for speccing out a 1500 Laramie Limited to get the Saddle color interior, then paid extra to get the 22s off the Limited. BTW-none of your videos (or anyone elses for that matter) mention the 22 inch wheel option and imho those babies are a stand out in the automotive trucking world for cool factor. They just fill up that gigantic wheel well just enough to make it instantly recognized as the top dog in cool shit. We managed to hit $79,440 to get the truck we wanted this time. Mine is coming with Body Colored bumpers (an option not on the site) but here is what is being built for us: www.ramtrucks.com/bmo.ram_1500_dt.2022.html#/build/powertrain/78623/CUT202220DT6M98A/2TM/APA,PSC,CD,EZL,DFR,DMC,DSA,Z6D,TAR,WPZ,SJ,A69,ALN,AYG,AHC,NFF,GP2,GWJ,MWK,XHC,XN1,UBQ,27M SouthPoint Dodge in Austin, Texas, stepped up too with a no trade price of $72K even. And that's truck number 3 from them now!
A big screen is good for watching the super bowl!😂 I like buttons or knobs so once I know where they are I can use them without looking. I also prefer as much voice activated features as possible. My concern with the Ram is the long term problem they have with the cam and lifters. I understand it’s not a problem with all of the trucks but it’s very expensive if it happens. I would also like to know if they’ve fixed the problem with cracked exhaust manifolds on the hemi! I tend to keep my vehicles a long time and the thought of a possible $5000 repair bill at 150,000 miles would probably deter me from buying the truck.
Suspension is 90% of the reason for owning a pickup IMHO. Personally, I can do without all of the electronic gobbledygook. Just another distraction that drivers don't need. There is something to be said for navigation but if it's going to be necessary for the driver to take eyes off the road...no way. Y'all asked for our thoughts JD. Safe travels sir. Giddy up.
I agree the screens are a distraction..i like a knob you can get a positive feel on. Thats just me. 8 or 9 inches is plenty. Imo Its easier for muscle memory than to have to take your eyes off the road looking for the righf menu.
I don’t think screen size is an issue, in fact I think a larger one is better. The issue is the screen allows you to access tons of options that could never be available with buttons or knobs, there is simply not enough space on the dash for all the options that can be changed. It would look like the cockpit of a Boeing 747. The important thing is to have buttons and knobs on the dash that are important to the driver, and the passenger can deal with the screen. The question is what buttons do the driver need? I admit my 2017 ram 2500 doesn’t have buttons/knobs I would like, like certain climate controls that are only on the screen, that I hate playing with when I’m driving, but I doubt a slightly smaller screen would give all of us our favorite knobs options. The best option I think would be voice controlled everything, but then we would have to learn how to use it
They definitely have the best ride and the worst squats under load, unless you bag it, but you can bag anything to improve squat and not payload capacity, you taught me that.
Nice video, May I ask if you can feel the buzz/vibration on your gas pedal, floor and steering wheel at 1500~2000 RPMs when doing acceleration? It’s more noticeable on 4WD auto and the outside temperature below 30 F. I just got mine, it happens on day #1
Me personally, I absolutely love the 12 inch screen in this truck. The Tesla, which is a very nice brand, has large screens, so why not Dodge? That was the main thing that won me over, especially being that we're 22 years into the new millennium. Respectfully responding...
I don't mind having a screen. I don't have a truck with a screen but I have used one that has one quite a bit but I definitely prefer buttons and knobs and dials over having to look through a screen to try and find where the setting or option I am looking for is. Things like Volume, Climate control are a must be a button thing for me.
Not taking away from the Ram 1500 but you are experiencing the difference in suspensions btwn a 1/2t vs your F450. I had an older F250 , 6 years went to a F150. Immediately I felt a huge difference in ride. It rode like a car. I now have a f350. It's much harder ride vs F150 but does ride better than the old F250. BTW ... A full time RV-r ; RUclips couple had air suspension problems on their Ram 3500. Was going to cost a fortune to fix so they took it out and built another system.
the big touch screens are obnoxious. Bluetooth for the phone and music works for me. I like to drive and living in a snowy climate, I factory ordered a 4x4 with manual transmission. No electronic slush-box and manual shift into 4 wheel drive. When it's dark out I turn the little tiny touch screen off and dim the interior lights, and enjoy what I see outside the vehicle, instead of not looking outside the vehicle. As far as a smooth ride, a vehicle with straight axles is easy after driving truck for a living. I had heated seats and steering wheel combo before, But maybe it isn't too good to heat up the back of your legs on a heated seat and then get out of your ride in below zero temperatures. People who become too complacent in their vehicles and in their driving, seem to not as good or safe on public roadways. Too many tough guys out there that need to be lowered a couple notches. But what is cool, is that we all have the ability to make these choices and be different. Some day, i'll get my "old man" vehicle, but while I can and while the industry allows, i'm keeping it simple.
We took a 2020 Ram 1500 with the coil springs and the hemi over 2000 miles altogether on a long trip. It made the trip so much more comfortable and bearable. Of course we were still tired at the end of our trip, but not tired enough to not go ride four wheelers with other family immediately after the trip.
Touch screens are great until they go out. I have owned several Ram trucks both hemi and cummins and my bigges complaint with them was fuel economy. With tge hemi, about the best I could achieve was 12-13 in town and 16 on the highway and that was with the 8 speed transmission. Other than that, I loved the truck. I had duallies with the cummins and I didnt think the ride and handling was bad at all for a 3500 4x4.
We have had 4 Dodge Grand carovan between 1996 to 2005. We put over 300K miles on all of them they the most comfortable ride of any of the cars I've ever run until 2006. For some crazy reason the changed the suspension and they are nowhere near what they used to be so I know Dodge can build a good suspension when they want to. The only question is are they really willing to do that. Love my 2500 ram but it is the roughest riding vehicle I have ever had when there's no load on the back.
I wish they shelled out the money for stronger springs, I was looking at a RAM 2500 after seeing the terrible payload capacity on the 1500 and there are some 1/2 ton trucks that beat the 2500.
I am looking to buy a ram 3500 Diesel crew cab platinum 2022 With the dealer airbags. I would like to know what the ride would be like with that and compared to your 450.
Thanks for your review! Does this have cameras on all four sides? I've got the 2019 Laramie with the smaller screen and my lease is up in a couple months. Only have 7,000 miles on it, it's in excellent condition. I think my screen is about 7" or 8" but forget. It's big enough for me and i like the options to use easy access buttons too! I'm not into having to always search on some computer screen for things. How does it compare to the 2019 Ram Laramie 1500 full size four door long 6'5" bed with air suspension and four wheel drive otherwise. Thanks 👍
I own a 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn fully loaded. The reason I decided on this truck was because of the large screen and technology. I do like knobs for certain things you use frequently. And I think Ram has just the right amount of knobs. But as far as the 12 inch screen, I use it all the time. I love the ability to split the screen so I can have my CarPlay on top and usually music on the bottom. I also have the 4-wheel air suspension. It’s smooth but I think it has a little bit of an edge to it compared to the regular suspension.
Air ride with RAMs will adjust automatically, but you can also set them to your own height as you need. For example at highway speeds, the truck will drop down further to increase fuel economy. You’ll have 5 settings to choose from, 1 - entry/exit mode. Truck lowers to enter or load items in the bed easier as well as hitch up easier and drop under. 2 - aero mode lowers the truck 1.5 inches from normal ride height and helps with fuel economy and adjusts automatically as you drive around; 3 - normal mode is the standard height of the truck; 4 - off-road mode lifts the truck 1 inch from the normal ride height; 5 - off-road 2 lifts the truck 2 inches from the normal ride height. I’d always use entry/exit mode for those days I had to help take my mom to run some of her errands. The air suspension also helps in leveling the truck, so it’ll detect if you have a load in the truck and adjust accordingly.
I have this same screen in my RAM Rebel. Go big or go home. I like it, except when I'm using navigation at night, too bright. There's a dimmer switch, but it's something you have to learn to use.
Beautiful truck color and lots of super cool features. I was a little surprised at the payload number which isn’t bad either. I really like the air suspension on the truck. The only downside for me is all the chrome. I’m not a chrome fan boy. Thanks JD great video.
They have a bunch of different models without chrome like the midnight edition and their sporty packages. I'm glad there are still chrome options out there personally
I think the 12 inch screen is too much especially at night. I like having the big knobs in my f350. I haven't got int he habit of using the voice control
No doubt the ram 1500 is super sharp…two things that stand out in my mind that I absolutely hate about the ram….cylinder deactivation on the hemi, and that wretched electronic gear shift knob…..trucks should have a column mounted lever like my super duty. I don’t like the f150’s console mounted lever either….on the column! We have a new expedition with the knob…i hate it!
I just traded in my 2018 Ram 1500 Rebel with the air suspension. I’ve been towing a 2018 Imagine 2600RB for 3 years with it. Most comfortable and stable combination I’ve ever had.
I had a newer gen Ram Laramie 1500, pretty much had all the bells in whistles other than the air suspension. Overall I was happy with the truck until I traded it in for my F350 Tremor - the resale value of these trucks is absolute garbage, especially for what they charge for them. It sat on the dealer lot for 3-4 months after I traded it in, immaculate condition, 13k miles on it and they ended up selling it for basically what I traded it in for. I'll stick with my diesel trucks for trade in value alone.
Hi BTBRV, firts I was leaning towards a f350 & now I shifting more towards Ram trucks. I like the 12" screen but still need some buttons foe some features, it would be nice to have auto tilting mirrors & wide track steering to complete me to go for Ram trucks
Touch screens are a safety distractions and should be outlawed, it's no different than talking and texting and that's illegal. give me buttons and knobs.
My son has this same truck and it’s awesome. I’ve never been a Chrysler fan, but I really like there new trucks and they get great reviews. The only question I have is how does the 1 ton version stack up against the competition? Do they even have a 1 ton?
Ram now has the best 1/2 ton truck transmission. I few years back they quit making there own transmissions and are now made by ZF who makes BMW Rolls Royce transmissions.
I’m 20 years old and have a 2019 Silverado 2500 ltz The screen is big enough and not to overwhelming!!

Still loving my 2013 won't drive anything else.
I have the 2021 ram 1500 with the E torque engine. I absolutely love everything about it. My question is how does a Tow for you
RAM 1500 super machine
Ram vs. Nissan Frontier. Which is a better deal? If you had to choose one.
I would love a review of the 2022 3500. Thinking of buying one but haven't seen any good overview/review videos.
I wish they shelled out the money for stronger springs, I was looking at a RAM 2500 after seeing the terrible payload capacity on the 1500 and there are some 1/2 ton trucks that beat the 2500.
I like my Ford Sync.
Thanks 👍
It sure does
I own a 2020 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn fully loaded.
Does the longhorn has the same suspension as limited?
Hey could you do a video of a triple axle RV 50 ft long or longer if you can find one
How does the air ride work exactly? Do you have to set it each time or does it adjust automatically?
I would love to know how well the Ram pulls an RV. I am looking at a cougar bunk trailer 29BHS.
I just traded in my 2018 Ram 1500 Rebel with the air suspension. I’ve been towing a 2018 Imagine 2600RB for 3 years with it. Most comfortable and stable combination I’ve ever had.
Today’s infotainment screens are just as or more distracting than texting
The screens are a big distraction. No safer then texting while driving
Knobs and buttons trucks is getting too high tech
I prefer real buttons
My son has this same truck and it’s awesome. I’ve never been a Chrysler fan, but I really like there new trucks and they get great reviews. The only question I have is how does the 1 ton version stack up against the competition? Do they even have a 1 ton?
GOOD😲
Not bad for something built with China parts.
Buttons and.knobs
Great truck & I'm a GMC guy
Nice Truck but until Dodge fixes the transmission issues they tend to have they will still be Number 2 to Ford in Sales.
Ram now has the best 1/2 ton truck transmission. I few years back they quit making there own transmissions and are now made by ZF who makes BMW Rolls Royce transmissions.
No trans problems at all! Best trans in the industry...HP75 ZF!
Buttons and knob's for me please.
Just traded f150 for ram1500. Ford is behind on suspension.
No Ram owner has ever said its a smooth ride
Yeah, that's totally not true
Buttons and knobs. No screen at all. And those headlights are too narrow for for the front end. Looks goofy.
But the resale on a Dodge...
Call it what you will but my experiences as far as “ride” with trucks are no match for the Ridgeline.
Vehicles are way too technically advance... people don't know how to drive anymore..they relay on technology to drive
Fords suck
