An SUV with soul? 2024 Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio road and track review

  • The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio's a bit of a bloomin' mouthful, and it's certainly getting on a bit, but a raft of updates for 2024 aim to make it feel more modern, more slidey and generally more entertaining. Join me as I explain why I think it's either the BEST or very nearly the best SUV for keen drivers, on road and on a tiny hamster-size race track.

The wheel design sitting over red calipers is absolutely spot on, they look a pleasure to clean.

I have a 2023 Giulia QV for a year and before that I had the 2017 for almost 3 years. Never a single trip to the repair shop or Alfa dealer for anything. Amazing vehicle. I did have the Stelvio QV for almost a week but ended up liking the Giulia better and I also liked the Sport Ti better so I ended up also buying a Stelvio sports TI which I kept for 4 years and put 46K miles on it. Never a single issue.

Out of curiosity, what didn't you like about the Stelvio QV?

    • @Thatcardude207

@@JIKI900 it felt very heavy and not nimble. The mpg was not in the acceptable range for me because I was driving to Wisconsin very frequently for work so needed a long range car. The Stelvio Ti felt very light and nimble. So ended up buying the Ti for long range and the Giulia and Audi R8 for fun.

And why don’t you see more Stelvios on the road. The motoring press’ sycophantic obsession with overrated German stuff, and ….Alfa’s only interested in producing sporting drivers; it matters not a jot to Alfa whether their cars have big cup holders, latest infotainment systems and bling attached. Not many buyers out there are petrolheads these days…..more’s the pity.

I’m coming up 3 years with my 2021 Misano Blue Stelvio Quadrifoglio and it’s not missed a beat. Still a dream and a joy to drive, and still very unique on the roads.

I am enjoy thanks Tim 😮
I didn’t realise how much I like these!
I love the red, and the wheel design is a classic 🛞
The static paddles are perfect for road based activities, and I don’t even mind the dry carbon!
The thing I like best though……..
…. is just how pert and cohesive it looks 👀
It neither has, nor needs an air dam, vented side skirts, double splitter and tripple diffuser.
Carmelo Giannone sketched it, then did what most designers can’t. He put the bloody pencil down!
    Delizioso piatto di pasta!

I ran one of the early cars (2019) for 18 months - just laugh out loud quick and fun on the road, the noise (mine had the tweak where the valves were open in lower modes not just race albeit i think they changed that in later cars). Boot is a decent size, although the sub woofers encroach into the boot and the grills get smashed up on tip runs. Decent mpg when not hooning which isn’t very often! as the Quad wills you to drive quickly. Biggest issue for me was the suspension, maybe its improved in recent facelifts but even in comfort on the motorway it just wouldn’t settle down - I needed the car to do some big distances and i just found it a bit tiresome. What a bit of kit though as a rapid daily..and only a minor issue with the battery / control unit in 18 months.

I've just started driving a Stelvio Veloce as my daily driver and agree about the boot not being quite as big as you'd like (I've just done a camping trip with the kids and we ran out of space in the car). Also the ride is borderline crap in the Veloce - as you say, it's always jiggling. I'm also only getting 27mpg out of the 2.0-litre 280hp engine in mine… so barely any better than the V6!

Love my 2018 misano blue. Upgraded from a tuned 19 Giulia ti sport. Honestly handles better and gives more confidence in the mountain roads.
The kbb is only like 34k!! Insane value.
Have a 3rd party warranty until 110k miles with a $100 deductible.. covers everything.

I'm not against performance SUV, but do prefer the styling of the giulia, but the stelvio looks a lot more practical.
Have only driven one performance SUV, a 2009 cayenne GTS and don't understand why performance SUV cop the amount of slack that they do, can be a versatile vehicle of done right. It was a really nice car/suv to drive, and this is coming from a hatch fan who dailys a 1 ton hot (old school hot hatch flavour, despite people arguing saying its only a warm hatch)

    • @TimRodieDrivesStuff
      @TimRodieDrivesStuff  2 месяца назад +1

Yeah, I agree. And to be honest the Cayenne is probably the only other SUV that really holds a candle to the Stelvio for me...
