  • This is the third game of the spring tournament in Ramat Gan, In this game I make an early opening blunder, and find myself fighting to get back into the game against a lower rated opponent.

@@DoronBarShay this was in interesting game to follow, particularly since I play the Sicilian:Taimanov which is adjacent to the Kan as I will sometimes play a6 and transpose into the Kan depending on how white plays. What I find most of the time with the Taimanov/Kan is black needs to plan freeing their light squared bishop or they will lose a tempo if they don't plan ahead. I liked your plan on placing your bishop on c5 to stop black activating their bishop. This would rile me up if I was black in this game :).
If you do allow black to get on Bb7 to free the bishop, be prepared for Rc8 plays and a potential Ne4, especially if your c3 Knight is pinned. There's some nasty tricks with the c-file that black can play to really squeeze the life out of white.

      @@OtaconAlonsus Great insights!
my opponent had definitely made some mistakes that allowed me to place my bishop there, and coming up in the tournament I had an experience very much like the one that you describe, a sicilian Kan where both sides were placed well out of the opening, black's c file pressure caused me to make some concessions.
I think it was the 5th round
