I often feel like Tom is an infomercial. I get you have to sell books but he really lays it on thick. I watch because of Gem but I respect that they all come together to give us content but yea Tom just comes off at times as a hype sales man instead of a guide to those in the hobby. Still I appreciate the vid

Neal Adams was quoted as saying 'As soon as Barry Smith did a book, or Steranko did a book, or one of my books, everybody would go to their local distributor and buy boxes of those books.' This is why a lot of great titles like X-Men, GL/GA, Nick Fury, Silver Surfer were 'inexplicably' cancelled - -because it appeared to the publishers that they weren't selling, when in fact they were selling by the boxload but under the counter. Only a fraction of them actually hit the stands and were recorded as legitimate sales.
One dealer even bought 25,000 copies of Conan #1, as well as having a monopoly on other early issues.

This information here at CT101 is often useful because it shows me how focused some collectors are and how much they (and troublesome non-reader gamblers) will overpay for comics that have been in my collection since they were new or languishing in back issues.
It seems like grading is a net loss to most high spending modern era collectors.

i believe the spec for Wolverine 1 (1982) led to people actually buying AND reading this. It's the story that keeps the prices going up, now that speccers are reading it (hopefully). Not just Iron Man 1.. or some other first appearance with a 'bleh' story that didn't mean anything. Wolv 1 has the story and that's what really counts.

I definitely would not shop for a copy of The Boys #1 right now. The problem? Kripke, and the fact he can't keep his mouth shut and burned his bridges with half of his audience, insulting them over politics. It's the Disney effect all over again, and now viewership numbers are dropping fast (they were already shrinking due to weaker scripts) to all-time lows, and if they get much worse the show could face cancellation.
Great lists, great advice… gonna get the box this month! Nuff said….
The next time there is any major Conan news I think we will see a LOT of high grade books hit the market. This book was hoarded by collectors in the 70s.

At the right price I'd even buy mid-grade raw Iron Fist 14 books, especially if the blues are nice. It's criminally undervalued IMO. Sabretooth is definitely one of Marvel's most important "villains".

The Boys 1 at 9.8 for $400 is ridiculously underpriced! There are only 1,000 9.8s! Look at Invincible 1 9.8 going for $3,800! The Boys is everywhere and continuing to expand! I’m buying multiple NM copies of Boys 1 right now! 😎👍

Why does TMNT Last Ronin CGC label not read "1st appearance of Mikey as the Last Ronin"?
Hi, Just started collecting comics after 25 some years. Have a few questions. If I submit let say a mutants 98 and get it back from CGC 9.8. Then I decide to crack it again and submit it again to see if I get a 9.9. Then it gets back as a 9.8 again. Does that submit add to the census again as a 9.8? So in reality there is only one 9.8 not 2 that were added. So I never told cgc it was the same one I submitted and not 2. So isn’t that were all the extra 9.8 are coming from and not new books? So isn’t that false inflation in the census right? Thanks
Yes it will inflate the census count, that's why you're supposed to send the slab label back to cgc but I'm not sure anyone actually does.

Tom, you're too focused on the comic book community. Sure, WE know about Deadpool and Wolverine and everything associated with it, but there are still a lot of people that don't.
ASM 210 was on the hot and trending lists after Madame Web came out and while it was still in theaters because, for some people, that was their first exposure to the character and they wanted Madame Web's 1st appearance.
New Mutants 98 could still spike after the movie comes out because of the general public jumping in.
Any comic that makes your list I hold off getting for at least 4 months.
If I was a professional seller. 100% I’d be listing those books.

I paid 4 dollar one dollar each for those wolverine 1-4. Perfect like new open.thank God my shop didn't want to buy comics.this lady sold me a lot of good comics for a dollar.she sold them to pay her rent .

Finally I hear someone say just what I'm thinking I absolutely hate this cover and yes that arm is out of perspective for sure, and that look on his face absolutely awful. Interesting fact or you, I'm not sure if it's true but I heard it's a swipe of Frank Sinatra. If you google wolverine /Sinatra you will see the image I am talking about and it sure looks like it could have been. That same stupid look on his face with his fist up and that's why that arm looks so off because he didn't actually draw it well he did but you get what I'm saying he just placed that arm in there

nope. It's true first app, annual just went first on the market by mistake, it doesn't make it Gambit's first appearance.

The uptick is 9.9 CGC books since all their covered up scandals is incredible. Hang tight for the 12.0 signature series prescreens. This is so out of hand. New books for thousands of dollars. Everything is gonna be an animated series or a movie or a video game so let’s jack up the books. So dumb

Marvel has simply made poor content with the following track record since Endgame:
Movies
- Black Widow (Bad and wasted a great comic villain)
- Shang-Chi (Good villain and nothing else memorable)
- Eternals (unfocused and terrible protagonist)
- Spiderman No Way Home (excellent)
- Dr. Strange 2 (terrible)
- Thor Love and Thunder (made Thor a joke and wasted not only Gorr, but also Christian Bale)
- Black Panther 2 (excellently written and acted, with top 5 villain in Namor)
- Ant-Man 3 (imagine writing that the next Thanos got beat by ants and MODOK, oh wait you don’t have to imagine it, they actually wrote it that way)
- Guardians 3 (amazing in essentially every way, minus the completely unneeded F bomb)
- The Marvels (do I need to say it?)
TV Shows
- WandaVision (good but far too long)
- Falcon and The Winter Soldier (good for first half and abysmal for the second half)
- Loki (good but far too out there for the general public, and the multiverse concept invites lazy writing)
- What If (fun but no one cares about it)
- Hawkeye (good old fashioned fun)
- Moon Knight (good but more of a side story)
- Ms. Marvel (fun but very forgettable)
- She-Hulk (abysmal)
- Secret Invasion (a waste of time)
- Echo (teased Daredevil, what people actually want to see and use him for 2 minutes. So guess what, a waste of time)
Bad content is the problem. X-Men 97 was great and people want great content. Marvel Phases 1-3 were great and people want great content with OVERARCHING stories. I can think of MAYBE a handful of ways that the MCU projects have linked together since phase 3. Also, cameos don’t count. Plot threads have to actually change / progress for them to be linked.
In summary, just jumping into your huge story typically doesn’t work. Just ask DC how Batman v Superman went or their Justice League sequel (oh yikes my bad).
When we say “this is a high dollar comic”, where are people selling their comics for “high dollar” or even FMV? All I see is “steal” expectations.

Fifty years by and large the comic bookmarket has gone up at a greater rate than inflation. That's the good news. But recent books and by recent I mean, 1980s app are really a CRAP*Shoot the operative word being crap. The guys on comic Tom are young and inexperienced with regards to investments.If your time frame is five years and you want to make money speculating on comics by really amazing spider man or any early marveles. But recent stuff goes up and then goes down and it's very hard to sell. Keep that.
In mind. Blue chips always win in the stock market and in the comic market
You watch; nm 98 is gonna go up after release. Marvel jesus. Especially after Ryan reynolds fought the powers that be.
