Thank for this Video. I changed both pairs this pass weekend. Completed the job in under one hour. Video was very helpful. Great job guys
02:25 ''Just for you guys, we cut part of the roof here.'' :D:D That's some fucking dedication.
GREAT video. I just finished mine and would like to add the tip of removing the rear hatch seal from the area you're working (it's already missing in the video). The bulb seal is pretty easy to cut and I know they're not cheap if you rip it
how nice of you to cut the roof for us to see! wow - subscribed.
I'm waiting for parts then I'll do it. no need to pay someone with BMW's "Special Tool". LOL
Thank you for the detailed guide! I’ll be taking care of this on my 540it today.
Glad we could help. Take care of that wagon, they are one of a kind and be sure to check out our website for e39 parts.
Very we'll illustrated and helpful, well done.

thank you so much for your effort, great video
Tailgate assisters easy ! Glass assisters nightmare ! The 2 cables are a pain too , easy if the roofs cut out but a bastard to click them back on with roof in place ! 😂
Super great video!
NICE VIDEO! THX!
Thanks for the Video!
It helped me (inkl. a e39-Forum instruction) to fix it my self in (from Start (grab all the Tools) to the finish (cleaned and back with a glass to Drink) in almost 3 Hours.
I'm a Chef and had never done this bevor.
Good to hear. We try to make our videos as simple as possible so that even and world class Chef can perform. Thanks.
You will need something to hold the hatch up while shocks are removed. The hatch is heavy!
Great vid man
thanks
I wish you'd made a video on how to replace the E39 wagon third led stop light while you were at it. Can't find any guide on it, and even the manuals just say to take it to BMW for it
Great video, thank you very much

Feel free to share our channel with anyone that could benefit from it.
We have part two?
Mine rusted badly at the edges, where it meets the glass. How much for the tailgate
Link to the reinstall video?
Cheers , my next job on a 530 D
Thank you for watching our DIY Video. You're ready for the job. Share our channel if you feel someone might benefit from it.
I would like to do this but I can't because the glass partition is also broken, I can't access the screw to remove the trim piece. Any idea how to manually open a broken glass partition latch? I've tried taking off the trim inside the trunk (6 screws but I feel like I'm missing something because it doesn't want to come off easily. Would appreciate any tips, cheers.
+Neil Davison Great question. Will look into techniques on how to open glass lift hatch and let you know
How the hell do you put the new strut on? This takes great precision and I'm not cutting my roof open
By no means are we encouraging viewers to cut their roofs off to install a strut, roof was removed for video purposes. If you are having difficulties installing strut after watching our video, then we suggest taking your car to shop.
Is the bigger shock for the main tailgate door? The little one for the tailgate window?
correct
I can’t even figure out how to open my rear glass on the hatch. How do you open it?
Did you figure it out?
Yeah found the button. Lol
How the heck do you even get the hatch glass to open?! I’ve had my e39 wagon for 3 years and have never opened the hatch glass. Lol.
underneath the wiper is a button lol
I need a tailgate for my wagon, do you still have that one?
Meantime5 I got it. What happened to yours??
my rear hatch rattles every time I go over bumps or potholes. any suggestions?
Common problem with wagons. Hatch has a soft close lock actuator which has two lock settings. First setting latches and second setting closes latch. Faulty latch will not close latch causing it to rattle.
bimmermerchant replacing the lock actuator for the hatch should solve the issue then?
And to put new shocks it's the reverse operation?
correct.
@@bimmermerchant thanks its nice that you still answer after 5 years that the video is online
I have an E34 Touring, i think it is the same operation
Hey Bro, when you get this message, please reply with a price for that tailgate. I don't really feel like fixing mine, esta bien maluca.
Meantime5 You got my email address.
cut the roof open??? WTF man??
we never stated that roof had to be cut to replace the hatch shocks. what video are you watching??
The one on my e34 touring is bad. But no way am cutting my roof for that.
we are not suggesting that owners cut their roof to removal the hatch shocks. we cut the roof for video purposes and because wagon was going to get recycled.
Cobbler butchering the wagon these two have no clue what they’re doing first off you should’ve lower to headliner remove the bolts holding the shock and you didn’t have to cut the roof big dummy...
Didn't know cutting part of the roof on a wagon that had frame damage due to accident and on its way to recycler would cause you so much distress. take a deep breath buddy and post a video showing us your removal method. Will wait.
@@bimmermerchant you’re stilll a cobbler it’s obvious you don’t know how to remove the shock from inside so you cut the roof SMH...#bimmerbutched
@@dawiskid187 Still dont know what the definition of cobbler is???? We only cut the roof to illustrate how the shocks are connected to the wagon, we are not promoting cutting roofs to remove shocks. Anyhow, thanks for watching. Still waiting for your video on removal process.
