Yakuza 1 Hayashi: just some guy you fights with a group of goons Yakuza 2 Hayashi: breaks into the Millennium Tower basement to drop one of the best boss themes and hardest fights (at least up to that point) in the game.
I think the best way to look at Y2 and Y2K is to have the mindset that they're just different games combat-wise. OG Y2 looks and feels more brutal vs the Kiwami version.
@@DillionT yes, I agree, I played this just before I played Kiwami 2, and I definitely prefer the OG2, although, I’ll have to admit, Kiwami 2 adds a lot more convenience, mostly for Substories being marked on map and such, and literally needing a guide for OG2 (which tbh taught me to use a guide for all of them, because I’ll miss something or fuck it up otherwise) but yeah, OG2, one of my faves and everyone should play it
You get a similar feelings when going from Kiwami 2 to 3. Blood is more visible, Kiryu stomps on faces left and rigth, there's more crunching noises, random enemies end up bloodied and beaten up to a pulp etc.
The virgin Kiwami 2, beating up Hayashi against the air finisher VS The Chad OG 2, beating up Hayashi by bashing his head against the fence with each punch finisher. Man this boss is just pure fun in Yakuza 2, fantastic fight as always!
@@youn00ber of course, how foolish of me to believe that just because something's impossible it can't be done. with enough spirit (and banger background music) even the impossible is possible.
I'm currently playing OG2 and I just finished fighting Hayashi and I agree with everything you said. To add on, Hayashi's OG moveset fits him way better than the Kiwamis reuse of Baba's moveset. He is a stubborn man who doesn't go down easily, so his hyperarmor and brutal, unrefined moveset is great. Also for the Hercules Gloves, you don't need to buy it from the dragon vendor as in the same building there's a coin locker for it. The Southpaw Bracelet can also be found as early as chapter 5. It's in Marietta, you can find a coin locker after you have finished renovating it for the first time.
Man the sound design of the PS2 Yakuza games are unpararelled. To this day no modern Yakuza game has a more satisfying sound direction than Yakuza 1, 2 and 3.
It pains me how much they took out of the first two games compared to the Kiwami titles. I didn't play the original ones, cause I was both too young and never heard of the series till I was in High School, but from clips like this, there's so much more to them, the soundtracks seem more diverse, and has more beefier heat actions and attacks instead of rehashing them
K1 seems better to me from original since it employs 0's combat system and the story is also more fleshed out. K2 is not better than the original yakuza 2
Thanks to this video I will probably try to play Y2, I only played Kiwami 2 because it was avaliable for me at the time and I gotta say, Y2 looks and feels WAY more extreme than Kiwami 2
He's in my top 5 favorite bosses in the series for sure, the whole fight is so badass, these sound effects and the qtes are so crunchy and satisfying, he has a ton of health and has dangerous moves so he feels like a worthy opponent to Kiryu. Anyway these ps2 videos are great, i'm glad there's someone showing new people that Yakuza was always good.
Insanely GOATED video. Hayashi was doing damage to me on my first playthrough. Because of its pacing, I find myself more of a fan of Yakuza 1 than 2, but I knew from the first fight you have in the graveyard -- where it teaches you that turning around mid combo is now a baseline mechanic -- that there was gold to be found.
Hayashi shows up, drops the best song in the whole franchise, exists basically only as a punching bag, then just disappears to the spin-off realm but even in Ishin Kiwami he gets recast in so I doubt we'll ever see him again unless he's in Gaiden (if he is they need to remix Evil Itself).
I just finish this fight the other day, and boy, Higashi with those 2 pipes are the bane of my existence. It's not hard, it just piss me off that i can't move out of the way soon enough to avoid that swing move he did.
The thing I like about this combat this shit looks like the man is actually getting his ass beat and its a one sided fight like most of the cutscenes after a fight imply. The new one feels idk like im a regular ass dude when punching into a 200 pound dude from a different weight class. In short why didnt I buy Yakuza 1 & 2 OG :( Edit: I dont dislike the gameplay of Y2K but something about thoses combos and how everything just floats into each other looks amazing.
Thanks to you, I have more respect for the OG games more. Of course I'll still love the Kiwami games dearly, but definitely this makes me wanna try the older games at some point.
OG 2's soundtrack is probably one of the best in the series with bangers like Evil Itself, North Menace, Hit & Kill and West Insanity, while K2's OST feels... generic. Of course K2 has some bangers aswell, like it's version of Outlaw's Lullaby, Break Off and One Last Push, but it ultimately falls short compared to the OG soundtrack. Also, there is just something about that PS2 sound design thats very crisp to me.
Another cool part about the ps2 fight is that, if you do a specific heat action or if you damage him enough, you can disarm him. Which is cool, i kind of wish you could do that with other other weapon wielding bosses.
Woah this actually looks enjoyable, meanwhile k2 hayashi felt like an average Yakuza 3 fight 💀 he just blocked literally anything that wasn't square triangle triangle or square square square

I just finished Kiwami 2 on Hard before Plus removal and Im so disappointed by last fight. All that lead to that fight is disappointed tbh. First they say an invasion is on course but actually 3 friends are being attacked by just some guys and thats it... some NPC thanked me for stopping the invasion... but the real one with closed streets happened after - I dont know if it were some kind of error. Then good fights in Purgatory, the elevator vs MIB (tougher than Ryujis) and - after all the promises made for the Ryuji fight, we got meh...and another meh... The most difficult was against the guy on diaper and his customersI and also in Coliseum vs wrestlers (and they even have more health bars).
