I've grown a lemon tree from seed before. Like in three or four years it produced. Unfortunately, shortly after frost killed it. It regrew a year later. I did not expect that. Currently, it is doing well, and is flowering.

Hi & I’ve got lots of questions. First, thank you for the superb way presenting this video and it’s info about planting the lemon tree seeds.
    My questions:
Does this need specific type of soil and fertilizer to grow its to its best tree?
How long do these trees take before bearing fruit?
Does the grower need to do anything specific to help the trees grow fruit?
What is best way to manage pests & fungus?
If fungus appears on fruit, is the fruit safe to eat?
Thank you for taking time to help with my questions. Excited to start lemons this year and more excited to see if they’ll bear fruit!
    Looking forward to your help.

Hey Lyn, what a lovely comment with a lot of great questions.
First of all, if you buy a good potting mix for veggies you should be fine, the trees take about 5-15 years to bear fruit.
When the lemon tree starts to flower, just use a fine brush or cotton tip and touch each flower with the tip (if you grow it indoors) - If it is outside, the wind and bees will do this for you!
The lemon tree I have, havent been infected by any serious pests or fungus. I usually just water when the surface of the potting mix or soil is dry. But if you want to get rid of insects there is a lot of producs out there to help you out in case you get into trouble.
If fungus appear on fruit I would not eat it, when fungus start to form, there is usually spores that goes into the fruit that you cant see.
I hope it helped with some of your questions, just get started you wont regret it! :D

My 2 y/O trees are much bigger than that even after pruning a few times. You need a grow light for the winter months so they can mature throughout the year. I started my trees in peat but then transplanted to half and half like you're using after the first year. The gravel also isn't necessary unless you're using them to weigh down the pots (the sand takes care of that too).

A lot of you are asking how to care for the plant. I live in Florida, have raised 12 foot tall grapefruit trees in back yard, we just put either Job's or Miracle Gro plant spikes around the tree once a year, near the drip line. If you have a tiny new tree, just use common sense, and use just a little bit of fertilizer, make sure it is CITRUS FERTILIZER, read the label.

Great concept! How often do you water them? How often are you changing the pots? How soon before they grow lemons?

    • @urbanchickadoodle6004
      @urbanchickadoodle6004  3 года назад +9

If they’re in the house you only water them about once a week. If they’re outside it’s usually twice a week. You wait until their soil is completely dry before watering them. I usually change their pots about once a year. When they’re little sometimes twice a year. It all depends on how fast they grow. Lemon trees start to get lemons when they’re three years old. It’s usually around December.

Valerie Sanchez: It's funny that you said, "They take too long to germinate" I'm an A.D. D. type person and had to change my perceptive. I'm 70 yrs old in a couple months, but I still plant stuff I'll never get to see grow to where I can eat the fruit, Reason why I do it is to give the next generation of people beautiful fruit trees they can enjoy. . I say; why not? If anything, watch it grow.......M.C.
