I’m DECONSTRUCTING this TRASHED DRESSER for parts! (and making a whole new piece of furniture)

- I recently found a nice pile of trashed furniture out at the curb but this 6 drawer dresser is completely missing a bottom drawer and a few others are totally smashed - so instead of trying to make the missing drawer into some sort of awkward, out of place, shelf situation, I thought I’d probably be better off to write this one off completely and deconstruct it for parts. I do have a loose plan to make something NEW out of the dresser top though!

Ok this is BY FAR the most impressive and realistic faux wood finish I’ve ever seen. Fantastic job!
Upon unboxing, I was immediately upset at how the rails were very noticeably bent. But I kept going, all tools needed to assemble were included ruclips.net/user/postUgkxqtX4Dxs6aecAZEuz6GY5-d81YecKCshn and I had it set up in about 30 minutes. Honestly I love this thing, make sure to read the measurements and measure your space so you know if it'll work for you. I bought this to put inside my closet, underneath where I hang my clothes and it is absolutely perfect! It is VERY sturdy and all drawers glide easily and mine are stuffed, and they are still flush when closed.
Are you kidding me??? Holy moly…..I didn’t hold out much hope when I saw the rubber “oak grain” maker, but THAT IS GORGEOUS! It really does look like a pretty white oak finish. Nicely done, Kate the Great! 😉👍👏🏻
That faux wood look is incredibly realistic!
That's an amazing finish. That's truly one of those "trust the process" projects and it couldn't have worked out any better.
I was skeptical when you started because I've seen so many faux wood finishes and never liked them. But THIS is amazing and beautiful. First time I've seen a finish that looked so real. Nice job!
Best faux wood job…this should go viral in the furniture flipping world 👏👏👏👏 well done!
Despite alllll those steps, the end result is worth it. You really unleashed your inner 'artiste.' One of your most impressive transformations.
Your faux wood technique is awesome. i love how you gave that dresser top a new life! Amazing as always
This faux wood is amazing! At first I thought, "no, faux wood looks awful. No one can pull it off well!" I should have never doubted you. Amazing as always!
Hi Katie, you are a GENIUS. I love white oak, and this looks amazing. Everything you work on, becomes the perfect piece. Dont ever stop your videos, I never miss one. Thanks once again, take care Gale💐
Love it. I was quite intrigued. Flogging! Who would have thought? Looking forward to your workbench creation. I am so happy to watch your videos. There's NO ONE like YOU, Katie!
This is crazy! It looks just like wood and is so gorgeous. Every time you try something new, I think that's not going to work. Every time it is better than I could have dreamed.
That flogging is a great technique, I can’t believe how realistic that faux wood looks! Amazing.
This is exceptional, Katie! With the colors, the layers, the techniques and the tools you used, you have created a gorgeous faux oak table. It looks like I would be able to feel the grain if I ran my fingers over it. It’s gorgeous and I hope you’ll show us more.🌸
Yes! It’s totally 3 dimensional and feels like wood!!!
GENIUS. I am binge watching some of your older videos on a Sunday morning and this transformation was miraculous! I love that you truly practice the philosophy of "reuse/repurpose/recyle"--that trashed dresser yielded many useful pieces, and I like that you pointed out the dollar value of each. All that material would have been wasted by scrapping it in the landfill. Fantastic job!
This is simply stunning. You have an eye and a creative vision second to none. This humble dresser top is somehow elevated to a piece worthy of a glossy magazine. 💖
I'm blown away Katie. This looks amazing. Your patience with each step is to be commended. Love this piece and that you tore that old piece apart and will get so much use for it. So glad you are doing videos again.
Holy crap Katie! I love this!! You did a great job and love love love that you salvaged all of that great wood! No wonder you were so excited about this project! Congrats! 🎉
Uhg!! I have such horrible workshop-envy when I see your workspace!! So big, bright, well organized!! Room to store bits like this demolished dresser. Yup - definitely jealous! This was an interesting video: it was a great idea to reuse the bits, even if you can't reuse the whole dresser! [Edit: I shouldn't comment before I've finished watching... that wood effect surface was STUNNNNNING !!! amazing work!!!]
I agree about the workspace. I share space with my husband. No organization there
Wow Katie, that faux wood looks great and I love the table you have turned it into, so simple and elegant. My husband caught me watching this and had to stop to see the end result too. I always learn so much from you. Thanks! 😊
This looks exactly like white waxed or white-washed oak!! I love it so much!!
I’m impressed! Not just with the wood look you created but the fact that you created it from something so trashed to begin with!
It's just absolutely beautiful. What a great job!
You couldn’t guess it’s faux wood! Well done Katie! 👏👏👏
Katie I have been watching your channel for over a year now and I have binged all of your videos. Your work is magical. This faux finish is marvelous. You are an accomplished artist in this furniture flipping/creating world.
I kinda can't believe my eyes...this was mind-blowing. Simply amazing. I'm running out of adjectives. 😊
I could watch you all day on repeat lol you're insanely talented and make this look super easy, which I know first hand it's not!
This redo was amazing. I've seen several people use that woodgrain tool and it's looked horrible, but you were able to make it look so natural with the other top coats layered on top. Amazing. I too like the light oak wood finishes that are trending now. I hope I can find this video again when I move and redo the side tables in our new home. New to us, not newly built!!! Thanks so much for showing us how this is done the proper way.
The vision you always seem to have is just so fun....your $ tally of pieces from the dresser was great! You are a magician!!
I'm only 2 minutes into the video and I am excited. I LIKE repurposing old wood items!
Phenomenal! What a unique and satisfying furniture painting technique!
Holy cow! Speechless! This was so fascinating to watch and it turned out amazing! Well done! 👏❤️🪄🔮
Oh my gosh! I am amazed! Love how real this looks and love that light wood color. Remarkable! You are so talented!
enjoyed seeing the deconstruction and how you scored big time. but you really hit it out of the park with the makeover. and i am obsessed with hairpin legs. LOL
That table is beautiful! What a great idea and what great technique to make it look like white oak. You’re clearly creative and talented.
In regard to the pronunciation of the word pecan, in Texas we have a saying about it. A puh-CAHN is a delicious nut you eat and also our state tree. A PEE-can is the thing you keep in the deer stand for when you need to go and don’t want to climb down. 😂
IMPRESSIVE!! I wasn't sure if you could make anything from that poor tired old dresser top. That table is fabulous!!! ❤
Katie you nailed it.
It turned out absolutely beautiful 😍
Again greetings from Quebec,,,, what I am blown away with is how far you are coming as an artist that is probably one of the best techniques I've seen yet..... And it would be interesting to see what other colors you can create with it as well..... I ended up with a freebie dresser and I can't wait to show you the pictures when it's done I took inspiration off the plum dresser that you did.... I might even give it's a shot instead....
Videos were amazing in the beginning but you're honestly taking it to a new level
Katie, that was so fun to watch. It came out beautifully. Looking forward to more!
Incredible wood look finish!!! Impressive work Katie!!
How perfect. What an interesting and inventive process on the top. You are a very good instructor. Thank you for bringing new techniques.
Such cool techniques to recycle that top!
Awesome breakdown (haha) of the furniture deconstruction and the most comprehensive instruction on a faux wood finish. Great job, Katie, and thank you!
Lovely. Ingenious and imaginative.
My mom had a 4 piece living room set, natural solid blond wood, from the early 50’s (hutch, end tables and coffee table). Honestly, your finish is a dead ringer for it. Your technique! Unbelievable. You never cease to amaze!!!!!! Thanks for sharing your talent, Katie.
I have no plans to refinish Anything, but you skill is so worth watching! Was a cabinet maker fo 40 years so its always therapeutic to see a great professional do their thing!
Wow, Katie! That was fantastic! That finish looks totally, 100% like wood!👍🏾👍🏾❤❤😍😍
I can’t believe the finish you got. It’s beautiful. Fantastic job Katie. 😍
That faux wood technique is fantastic!
Im seriously impressed with the wood effect paint finish! ❤
Amazing. I’m gobsmacked at how great this came out
What an interesting technique that produces incredible results! Bravo!
I'm so happy I've found you're chanel. You are so talented and a HUGE help to me. This project turned out BEAUTIFUL!!!
This is amazing and inspiring. Love Katie' s voice and her commentary. From across the Atlantic in Scotland .
You are a genius! If I didn't see you doing it I could swear it was real wood.
Absolutely amazing. You are by far one of the best I have seen at restoring furniture. Love your videos.
Wow! I was so skeptical, but that was an amazing transformation! Great job! And I also loved the part by part breakdown analysis of the deconstruction $$$.
I loved this!! What a great technique it's so real looking!! I didn't guess "it" btw I guessed let it dry not flog it again lol
The wood finish is amazing!!! Beautiful!!!
Wow, that faux wood look is amazing! It looks so good. Have you ever seen Modern Makeovers here on RUclips? He uses a lot of salvaged pieces of wood to create new drawer fronts, etc for his furniture projects that are missing pieces.
Wow, Like Wowy Wow! Looks just like Oak. Fantastic creativity Katie!
Incredible!!! I've never heard of flogging and now I can't wait to try out this technique. Thank you for all of your amazing talent!
Lovely, lovely, lovely!!!
Incredible job Katie!
This is a true artistic piece! You’re amazing 😊

Very cool make over. The top looks amazing and I love how you took this dresser from a pile going to the landfill and are reusing all the pieces. Also, I had this same dresser growing up, it ended up in our cottage that we sold a few years ago.
Some really good pieces of wood for re-use.
Could not believe the finish. Stunning.
Wow, beautiful end result with this technique Katie....take care...
Katie🌹, you are a Treasure.
Beautiful 🌹
Looks real Wood👍🏻
Wow !!! It looks so realistic
That is gorgeous!! I wasn’t sure about the flogging technique, but can’t deny the end result.
Girl!! So glad to see your creativity exploding again!!
i saw the Shorts video of the wood grain thing for this and immediately subscribed
i’m OBSESSED with this
Absolutely gorgeous! You are unbelievable.... love the techniques you used and the final white wash was perfect touch!! Great video!!!
Love the faux wood grain technique!
great video! good content and your production values are appearing more practiced. You are now on my 'dont miss' list. (I dont have many.)
All I can say is WOW!
Well done turned out brilliant.
I love this video. I love the deconstruction, salvage part. Love your faux wood. Very nice.
You are so creative and I love watching how you bring pieces back to life!
😲 this finish is freaking awesome! Seriously so good!!!
That finish is superb Katie - top marks!
That is too funny! I just did the same thing with an old knotty pine dresser! I saved the drawers for a van build that my daughter is doing.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ plan to do it myself on a dresser. You’ve got an eye for detail! This is perfect for a small hall 👍🏻
Looks incredible! Well done
Ok Katie! This is insane. It looks just like me limed oak floors and I can’t even stand how good it is! We bought an older home and the kitchen cabinets are dinged up terribly! They need replaced. Or do they…🤔 I think I’m going to be doing this technique on them and see how it turns out. Absolute perfection! Thank you so much!!
Wow. Gorgeous!
Wow! Trust the process indeed! Fabulous dahling!
Here in the South, it is 'pah-con', not 'pee-can'....the pee-can, is in the outhouse. 🤣 That table!!! You keep upping your game, Wowza❣️
A great idea! I hadn't thought to grab up a few free items for parts!
That looks incredible!!!!
I never thought this would ever look like wood Great look.
Nice job in making the wood grain. Never seen anything like it before.
Amazing!!!! I am loving this technique! You are the best.!
You're good! I've done faux finishes before but that technique was off the chart.
Gorgeous finish! It looks so good and natural…job well done!!!
