I love this use of old vanities. So many around and they have fantastic potential like this! Also - thank you for the comments that brush strokes are just fine. Striving for zero brush strokes can be discouraging - and brush strokes should be expected on artistic pieces!
I used to have what I call "the perfectionist's mantra" taped to my computer, "Done is better than perfect". I heard something on NPR that inspired me to add "we aim for excellence rather than perfection". Together they help remind me of what's important. Great job, as usual!
Thanks for what you said about not having to be perfect. I often forget I'm not making store bought pieces but one of a kinds to be appreciated for my artistic skill! Lovely job!
Thank you very much for always showing and discussing with us your “happy accidents” and how you fixed any issues! It’s not only helpful, but it makes me feel better knowing that you never stop learning, even when you’re a pro!
I loved that you expressed respect for this piece by giving someone else time to claim it before you did. I watched another flipper butcher apart a beautiful piece similar to this with not much wrong with it and then did a horrific job of finishing it. I have no problems with people pulling apart these beautiful pieces, when they make it look better by giving it a beautiful new life. You absolutely did this piece justice with breathing new life into it. Excellent work👏
It is a sad day indeed when the redoubtable K Scott is flummoxed!! You show us that to ultimately prevail we need to just keep going & keep trying different things. Well done as this was an epic project. X
I really appreciate the way you find the balance between expecting impossible perfection (e.g. accepting some brush strokes ) and being prepared to wash or sand off disappointing results and having a go with another product.
These nightstands are stunning and truly works of art! Great decision to keep the directional wood grain exposed on the drawers. That along with those amazing drawer pulls added to their one-of-a-kind look! Just beautiful. 👏
I did this with my darling Mums old dressing table, it was mirrored and an extremely large piece of furniture. I was a bit nervous at first but watched one of your other videos a couple of times with my husband and we manage to separate the dressing table without any issues. Lovely part is that we have kept some of the dressing table and have such lovely memories in our home. Thanks for this great idea my sisters really love this idea and especially that we kept a part of our mums history 💗💗
You are brilliant. So enjoy how you give second life to so many pieces deserving one. We must all look for existing furniture before purchasing new one. In your case, not only Mother Nature approved, also stunningly beautiful.
BEAUTIFUL! I have a piece like this that has not sold like forever. I might just convert them into nightstands. Thanks for what you do, it's very helpful!
Great use for a waterfall-type vanity. I know making the stain work was a hassle, but sticking to your original vision paid off in wow factor. Really nice job!
My heart sank when you painted over the beautiful and characteristic waterfall grain, so I was glad when you were able to salvage some of it on the drawers.. But like you said, better in use in someone's house than in a landfill...great job.
As always, your meticulous work and attention to detail yielded wonderful results. I love that you turned this fairly obsolete piece into two usable and gorgeous nightstands.
They turned out so beautiful. I see them used in many different ways. Thanks for showing the whole process and how you worked through the fails. You were rewarded with knowledge, shared it and a teachable moment of persistence and the payoff. Love all of this.
Always appreciate being taken along on the authentic process of getting what you are after. Rarely is the road straight and I remember feeling so betrayed in my younger and more naive years by the DIY Network and HGTV showing me how to do something, complete it in a 1/2 hour and never show the outtakes where things went wrong. So many great flippers here on RUclips that share secrets, finds, successes, failures, etc. Gives one courage. And I think your channel really is tops!
You worked hard for it and those nightstands are gorgeous! I’m so glad you let the beautiful wood on the drawers stand out. I learned a lot about staining from this video - thank you so much!
Thanks for this tutorial. I did the same project last summer. I remember the center bridge portion was real work to separate and then filling the deep grooves they left. My daughter had a small spot for an end table and this worked perfect. So glad to repurpose an old piece.
While working on various stages of a few projects today, I was met with a feeling that I was not able to achieve the quality I wanted in my pieces. Nothing was working out right. I was ready to give up and say, I am not cut out to do furniture makeovers. Then, I watched this video and the words of encouragement you offered were just what I needed to hear. Thank you Thank you!
I love how these turned out, Katie. They are soft and romantic. I especially love the look of the drawers and the handles. Perfect for a dreamy bedroom. Beautifully done.🌸
Oh MY! Loved them! Always appreciate you sharing your struggles. Confirms you are human, and not the super hero peerless furniture flipping wizard we know you to be. 😉
Stunning job on this makeover!!! I love how you kept and enhanced the grain on this piece and recycled the hardware. There is a drill attachment that you can buy that let's you use your drill at a 90 degree angle to your screw. It is not expensive and is really useful in hard to get into places. I have used ours multiple times. You can also use a dremel (not small craft size) with a metal blade that will cut in hard to get at areas. It is oscillating instead of rotary so leaves small cut lines. I have owned mine for years and it is invaluable.
I love that you shared your challenges with the white wash. Sometimes a little experimentation is needed! Glad you found the right solution. I wasn’t sure about it, but when I saw the drawers and painted frames all together, it really worked well and looked great! In the right home they will be perfect. And those narrow nightstands will be awesome for a smaller space. It’s tough to find narrow tables like that.
I am so happy you kept the original drawer pulls. So many people just automatically fill in the holes and replace them and that would’ve been so sad in this case. These turned out beautiful, as do all of your projects.
Firstly what a gorgeous piece of furniture, and secondly you really did it justice even though that paint effect gave you 'a run for your money ' ,Thank-you for showing all these stages even though it was tricky for you. X
You had to go thru a lot to get the look you wanted but it was worth it! They are so very pretty. I appreciate that you take us on your journey of the good and bad. Not everything works out the first time. Saved from the landfill and a beautiful addition to someone’s home. Thanks so much. Take care, stay safe.
Beautiful flip!!! Thanks for sharing this project with us. I love that you showed all the things that didn’t work. I learn so much from each piece and definitely learn a lot from things gone wrong. And just like you, I keep Jami’s advice in the back of my mind all the time. “Done is better than perfect!”
Love the quote "......definitely better in someone's home than in the landfill!" Great job and I love the colors.
I am so glad the drawers' beautiful diagonal pattern still shows through.
I love this use of old vanities. So many around and they have fantastic potential like this!

Love that!
Thanks for what you said about not having to be perfect. I often forget I'm not making store bought pieces but one of a kinds to be appreciated for my artistic skill! Lovely job!
Ooof those drawers! Glad you did not give up. The pattern was very unique! Beautiful finish!❤
So motivating to see you never give up even when there´s trouble with the paint. Love the finished pieces!
I love the fact you're preventing these from going into a landfill. You're so amazing and finished is better than perfect.
Thank you very much for always showing and discussing with us your “happy accidents” and how you fixed any issues! It’s not only helpful, but it makes me feel better knowing that you never stop learning, even when you’re a pro!

Sooo worth the extra effort in separating the pieces and all the prep. The drawers turned out gorgeous. What a soft, dreamy look these have!
Love seeing how you dealt with the bumps in the road . They turned out incredible 😍😍😍
It is a sad day indeed when the redoubtable K Scott is flummoxed!! You show us that to ultimately prevail we need to just keep going & keep trying different things. Well done as this was an epic project. X
Your patience prevailed!! Very nice.
I really appreciate the way you find the balance between expecting impossible perfection (e.g. accepting some brush strokes ) and being prepared to wash or sand off disappointing results and having a go with another product.
The end result is proof that your effort was well worth the time and energy invested. Beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
These nightstands are stunning and truly works of art! Great decision to keep the directional wood grain exposed on the drawers. That along with those amazing drawer pulls added to their one-of-a-kind look! Just beautiful. 👏
OMG! Those drawers are gorgeous! It almost looks like marble... and with the pulls, I'm drooling! Hah! Your perseverance definitely paid off 👏

Love how you updated this piece. They are not confined to the bedroom only now. Thank you.
Your awesome, I really enjoy watching how you update those beautiful, older pieces into something new and fresh !
Great use for a waterfall-type vanity. I know making the stain work was a hassle, but sticking to your original vision paid off in wow factor. Really nice job!
Hi Katie. Girl, these 2 pieces turned out beautiful! Never give up…..and you didn’t. Well done!!👍🥰💐
My heart sank when you painted over the beautiful and characteristic waterfall grain, so I was glad when you were able to salvage some of it on the drawers.. But like you said, better in use in someone's house than in a landfill...great job.
I am so impressed with what you did here. You have such great ideas and your pieces turn out so beautiful! You do amazing work with furniture!
It's good to see that sometimes things don't go right for other people too. The good thing about this is there is always a solution.
As always, your meticulous work and attention to detail yielded wonderful results. I love that you turned this fairly obsolete piece into two usable and gorgeous nightstands.
Thanks for sticking it out! Beautiful.
They turned out so beautiful. I see them used in many different ways. Thanks for showing the whole process and how you worked through the fails. You were rewarded with knowledge, shared it and a teachable moment of persistence and the payoff. Love all of this.
