God, the Choice Specs are literally run savers. Getting that sort of power after the fifth gym is indeed kinda busted, but the amount of sheer fun they provide is more than enough to justufy it's early inclusion, at least in my eyes.
I only wish that the Choice Band was also as easily obtainable during the main game..

The damage reducing berries can be found by an NPC in Pastoria at the bottom left of the town. She’ll give one out at random once a day.

Yes! I forgot to mention this, very helpful.

Nice item picks. I never new about the Choice Specs in Celestic town for many many years, and it surprised me recently when I learned you could get such a powerful item that early. It reminds me how I also learned a few years ago you could get both a Choice Specs and Scarf very early in HGSS. To answer you DP question, it’s been a while but iirc in DP Wake allows you to use Defog and Fantina Surf, so the Celestic episode happens before the 5th gym.
The item I’d add to your list is one you mentioned but didn’t spotlight: the Expert Belt. Giving +20% to all super effective hits, it’s similar to the type boosting items but trades consistency for flexibility. Given you’re likely to be using many super effective moves, I’d say it’s at least on par with those, especially on a Pokémon with wide coverage options.
I also like you tried not to repeat items from your Emerald list. Obviously most of them are still good, but you want to shake things up. One thing to mention is Sitrus Berries have been buffed going from gens 3 to 4, instead of giving a flat 30 hp to 25% of your maximum. This makes them worse early on, though you normally wouldn’t have access to them anyway, but better as the game goes on, especially for Pokémon with high base hp.

Gotcha, thanks for answering that! And yeah the sitrus berry is a good one, it actually caught me off guard a few times because of how much it healed.

I absolutely adore the wide lens. My houndoom destroyed everything with 95% accurate fire blasts.
I have to admit, choice specs is absolutely disgusting. It makes some elite 4 members completely free if you have 1 Pokémon that knows a strong special stab move.
I think that the razor claw deserves an honourable mention. Because 2 of them exist, you don’t need to sacrifice Weavile. There are plenty of cool strategies with razor claw. One of my personal favourites is combining Drapion and its sniper ability with a razor claw and cross poison for 25% chance of a critical hit that does triple damage instead of double because of sniper.

Does wide lens add a flat 10% to accuracy? I always assumed improved moves 10% of their base accuracy. e.g. hydro pump goes from 80 to 88. If it’s the former, then it’s better for low accuracy moves than I thought. And it might also warrant giving a second thought to the Zoom Lens, if it works the same.

@@pikminman13 Oh I thought it was a flat 10%. So fire blast would be 93.5% instead of 95%.

I love this detailed video about items! I like that you mentioned the berries! I actually crazy enough encountered a munchlax during a Nuzlocke of pokemon Diamond. I tried to catch as many honey tree pokemon as possible so when I arrived at a munchlax tree I could encounter it thanks to dupes clause. It was also my 2nd encounter on that tree!!
But sadly enough it didn’t want to stay in a pokeball and started to almost faint all my pokemon so I had to let it faint😞 I did use thief to get Leftovers for my Blissey

I really love when you added black sludge to this list. Since leftovers can only be obtained by catching a wild munchlax in honey trees, but they're impossible to get because honey tree mechanics suck. Leftovers can be found in victory road but it is part of post game content. Black sludge only limits healing to poison mons but it is worth it to put on a roserade or sth.
