Good solid information. I think alternative sources of energy are always worth learning about. Whether it's for camping, going off grid, or natural disaster preparedness. We have so many more options available. Here I thought I was "on it" with my tiny portable phone charger. lol I'm on a plateau near the Cascade foothills so the windstorms every fall are very eventful. lol I've been wanting to add more to our preparedness in the event of earthquakes or Mt. Rainier blowing her top. Although to be honest...if she blows I don't need to hear the lahar siren to know what's happened. lol When asked why I moved, I always tell people I'll take a dormant volcano over tornadoes and flooding in the midwest where I grew up any day! Thanks for sharing! Your videos are always informative.
Very wise person. Im also wondering where to move. I wanted a farmhouse here in the Pocono mts. In Pa. Its pretty.. not many rainstorms and nothing lasts long. A few tiny yremours near the far end of the state near lake Erie i have growing and foraging skills and still learning. This is a great area for growing foid and raising chickens.. ilike self sufficiency. Be safe..
I am having fun exploring PA . I have been enjoying the Delaware state forest which is in your area. Regards =Cosmo

I am so glad I found this video! My wife and I are making the move from ice coolers to fridges. We were planning on buying the Dometic cfx3 25L for our overnight camping trips and were curious what size Jackery to buy to keep the fridge running while the Jeep is shut off. If the 240 ran your 35 for 25+ hours, then it should be more than enough for us! We considered getting a larger fridge, but we pre-cook and pre-freeze all our camping foods in zip-lock bags, so I'm sure the 25L will hold plenty for five or six meals on the trails, plus a bit of water :)
Great. I have to stress I loaded the fridge with water containers and ran it for a day or two to pre chill everything. If you are adding not chilled food the fridge will use MUCH more electric because it runs much longer to chill the food. Once the food is chilled it only runs about 15 min an hour (depending on a lot of variables). If you are in a very hot environment you wattage may vary. My numbers are a good starting place to factor in your variables. For instance on a long trip I have to buy more food - I go to the store to buy it and its somewhat warmer by the time I get it back to camp. That will cost me more in energy to re-cool the food. Hopefully you get the idea. My test numbers were done in my living room at constant indoor temperature. =Cosmo 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweemsvideos

I am impressed. I live in Vegas. With panels it seems it would run none stop. After the recent hacks. I am concerned about grid function and my family.
The fridge is only 1 cubic foot but for what I am doing its plenty. My longest stint off grid has been 21 days and I had no problem running the fridge on battery and recharging with solar. I recently did a trip with just the car and no trailer and also had no problem powering the fridge for a week. ruclips.net/video/hZ7JvD0MDmA/видео.html One point not all fridges are as energy efficient as this one. It pays to crunch some numbers before buying anything. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweemsvideos

Thanks! In an off grid camping situation, it is how many non-solar-charging hours I can run like evenings and cloudy days, and this is very encouraging. They are very useful indeed.
Charging. For a weekend warrior, replacing the energy used is not an issue by recharging at home over a week of time. However, when off-grid camping for a longer period of time, not being able to replace the energy used in a single solar day is a serious issue.
We are aligned. My trailer has a battery but in difficult conditions I want to know how long I can run without recharging. I am not alone facing this challenge I have been successful implementing non stop solar but it took far more solar wattage for clouds and forest than I ever thought it would. This test was gives me the extra boost in case I ever need it. Thank You for watching. Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweemsvideos

@@CosmoWeems i agree. I wanted to use solar at a farmhouse along with a water wheel. Im getting encouraged.
Cosmo Weems, Yes! Agreed! I am starting to think easy to set up and position portable panels, a long cord, and a Portable Power Station/Device (named anything but solar generator ;-) would be a valuable addition. Thanks again!
Thx for the time trial. I think the new 300 is going to replace the 240. Sounds like anything any of them will keep a 12v compressor fridge running during pauses in driving or overnight during a road trip. 😎
Thanks. My thoughts are the same! Enjoy! =Cosmo
I checked the 300. It has (1) 12V output and (2) AC outputs. I use 12V quite a bit. So for me I like the 500 which provides up to (3) 12V Ouputs but you need to by the 12V thingy. And one AC outptuts. My point is pick which ever you need to meet your needs. Also it must meet the peak draw (watts) of what you intend to run. If you are unsure lets discuss it. Regards =Cosmo

Keep in mind people, RESULTS WILL VARY. Ambient temps are the biggest factor in fridge/jackery performance variation.
Here’s my example:
I have the Jackery 240 and used it on an ARB 37 quart fridge.
Inside my home starting with an un-cooled fridge and 4 bottles of drinking water, the fridge lasted thru the night for 11 hours.
The following night, I pre-cooled the fridge and water bottles. Surprisingly, the battery only lasted roughly the same amount of time (11 hours).
Finally, I took the fridge and jackery to work. With the fridge precooled, I stocked 8 bottles of drinking water inside. The fridge and jackery were left inside a large outdoor storage container. Outside temps were around 96 degrees. In this hot environment, the jackery only lasted 4 hours.
The hot ambient temps forced the fridge to work more frequently, essentially reducing the battery’s capacity by more than half.
The big variable here is your fridge. While our fridges are comparable size. Your ARB is consuming 21 watts an hour in a best case scenario. I averaged the 4 tests I did and the Dometic is consuming only 9.2 watts an hour in controlled conditions. I provided a baseline so others can bake in their own variables. It is impossible for room temp water and fridge to consume the same amount of energy as prechilled in a start up test like I did and not use more energy. I am confident I can duplicate my results. I did not use the fridge display, I measured the water in the containers with a probe before I started. Pre-chill is critical when attempting maximum ice life or energy conservation. Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching. =Cosmo
Cosmo Weems Calm down buddy. Sounds like you missed my point. Forget the fridges. I was pointing out that battery life will vary a lot depending on the environment and ambient temps. That battery life will not be consistent in different circumstances. People should know that. I just gave my situation as an example.
Thanks Yazz Im not being critical. Just chewing on the data. I agree the ambient temps will impact results (hence the indoor test). Pretty much all my camping has been in 90 degree weather this summer and in late afternoon the fridge will cycle on more. Keep the comments coming It helps all of us. Thank You =Cosmo

Hi Cosmo, Playing with Sticks referenced you one day, so I decided to check you out. I'm glad I did. I just retired 5 weeks ago and I am planning some trips. I live in FL so your adirondack videos caught my eye. I'm not new to camping but have never been that far north. What would you suggest as the best months for fewer bugs and cooler weather. I don't care if it gets down to 35 or so but not much colder. Being from FL it's summer for 8 months. Thanks , I'll keep watching.
Hi Karen. You want to avoid May most years in the Adriondacks due to black fly season. Early April is OK. Med September to mid October is usually spectacular and no virtually no bugs. Temps can go as low as 20s sometimes but often 70s in the day. I have a CFX-35 and needed to know this exact info. Did you use the Jackery's 12volt or 110 plug during these tests? Thanks!
You energy will go further with 12V to 12V. Using the AC inverter stepping up to 110V from 12V and then back down to 12V to power the fridge wastes lots of energy. Some say it wastes 20%. Do pre-cool. Pre-cooling 24 hours in advance can save 40% of the power eliminating fridge work to chill the food. ruclips.net/video/ITJNEPGb7MY/видео.html 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos ruclips.net/user/cosmoweemsvideos

Hello, I have heard these Dometic's shuf off prematurely when powered via the DC plug due to their 3 stage battery protection function. Did you run this test off DC or AC power to the Dometic?
Mine is a 2016 model. I plug it into dc and ac. No problems. Works great. But nothing lasts forever. If plugged into AC power for fridge will default to AC enemy if plugged into dc at same time. =Cosmo
A well insulated simple plastic ice box keeps your food cold for 2 days without ANY power.
All you need to do is pre-chill all the food/drinks....maybe freeze a gallon of drinking water to keep up the thermal mass. Bought mine 30 years ago for $20.
A $1000 is a lot of money to pay for an extra 2 days cold.
It is also made from the same tech that goes into a smart phone...so it will probably last as long..
Thanks for your comment. I purchased a few years ago when the price was 50% less. The technology is a compressor fridge. Extremely high efficiency. Sorry my phone does not have a compressor... Ha ha ha. I started out with a $20 cooler. I used it for few years. I wanted to stay off grid in the wilderness for long periods without making trips for ice. I go our for a week to 21 days at a time (if course many shorter trips too). So far I am very happy with the fridge and it is allowing me to do what I want. In my case I calculated the cost for the ice. In my case at the price I paid the fridge paid for itself in less that 2 years due to the amount of money I save buying ice and sending that money down the drain. ruclips.net/video/ITJNEPGb7MY/видео.html Thank You for watching. Thanks for your video. I’m considering using a domestic fridge in my Tacoma 24/7 . What combo would you recommend? Maybe the Jackery 500 with a 100W solar panel on top? Thanks in advance
Each Dometic size has a different energy draw so its hard to say. Also I camp for a week at a time and am totally dependent on the sun (by choice) So Under clouds in dense clouds I need 600 watts to meet all my energy needs )more than the fridge). If you are getting good direct sun daily the too would be a good choice for the Dometic CFX-35. If your driving daily that will help charge Jack too. =Cosmo Thank You for watching. Ok, I'm comparing the jakery chart side-by-side from amazon, it listed mini cooler (60w). For 1000 = 7hrs, 500 = 9hrs, 240 = 4 hrs. But you are giving by 24 + Hours running a frig/freezer.
I tested mine and I spelled out the test methodology. Both of us have no idea how Jackery tested or what equipment they were using. I have repeated this test and I use this fridge off grid 99% of the time in real world camping conditions. . Change the ambient temp and the results will of course change. I provided this as a baseline for you to modify for your conditions. - if you are camping in Arizona desert in 110 temps your energy consumption will differ from camping in Maine in a shaded forest. You're saying the Jackery 1000 will power CFX-35 refrigerator for 121 hours.. yet you previously declared the Jackery 1000 can only power a fan (on high) for 28 hours. From my experience with Jackery the latter is certainly more accurate. Can you please clarify how and why there is such a huge difference between running a fan for 28 hours and a refrigerator for 121 hours?
Its pretty simple. I can duplicate my results. The fan has a 100% duty cycle (it runs continuously) The fridge has a thermostat so once it is PRE COOLED the duty cycle is very short. it only runs for a few minuets an hour in the conditions I tested it which i detailed.
