My opinions about a few things that contribute to pricing: 1) Quality - Yes, there are cheaper units to be had, but will they last? 2) Durabilty/Flexibility - Dometics are known for operating in harsh environments and in uneven overlanding conditions, which sort of plays into my comment about quality. Will cheaper units function in such conditions for the long haul? I honestly don't know. 3) Dometic is an Australian product; so, the freight to get them to us is factored into their price. Thanks! I don't recall exactly what I said. But I'll add that most overlanders/campers open their door/windows when parked unless they have AC. My city car stays seal-up when parked. So, it can get hot inside. It's interior saw 115°F today, which is great when considering my erected shades and 95°F day. My fridge was steady at 40°F. Thanks for visiting!

When I saw the thumbnail I thought it was one of my videos because I have the same one and cover. I saw your first video in 2021 before buying my Dometic CFX3 35 It’s paired with the Jackery 1000 and I also have the Saga Solar 100watt panel (never use 😂) I got it to take a trip to Moab Utah with my new 2021 Toyota 4Runner. It’s really an amazing unit and worked flawlessly for my trip. When I got home I brought in in the condo and left it plugged in and put bottles of water in it to save room in my refrigerator. I have to say it’s never been unplugged in almost a year as I haven’t done anymore travel or camping to put it back in the 4Runner until last week. I put it back in with the Jackery 1000 but didn’t go camping. I then decided like you why not leave it in full time and just have the convenience of cold drinks and when grocery shopping I could just toss some things in it. However like you explained the Jackery is only going to run it so long so now it’s in the 4Runner off. Now after watching your update video re: ambient heat I’ll remove it and put it back inside my condo because like your climate I live in Sarasota Florida (a mile from the sun 😂) I would like to check weather tech on those fitted window shades. I made my own but the custom fitted one would be nice. This was an expensive purchase to have only used both things for a week or so to Moab but I’ll keep them because they’re just great products to own (both of them) Thanks for the update re:ambient temps so now I know what to expect. BTW I’ve always wanted to remove my basket but never have now I never will 😂. I bet you really like driving that sporty looking VW don’t you. I don't have any updates for my CFX since I continue to use it frequently in the same manner as I had described in this video. What I don't recall, though, is whether I shared that I had returned to using my "rear seat delete" with under-floor storage. The CFX sits there instead of on the little platform that I had made. I shared my new and improved delete at ruclips.net/video/Pt0O_IVQ0zg/видео.html. Better yet, though, is that I have a new power solution. I added a 100-Ah lithium battery solution to support my ham radio pursuits. It will run the CFX for days. The bad news is now my Jackery Explorer 500 is on a shelf. HAHA! I think the same is absolutely true for 4Runners and Tacomas, perhaps other Toyotas, though to a lesser degree. BTW, I'm not in AZ. I wouldn't mind living there. The operating Temps were a surprise for me too #at least 16deg.C outside temp.....a normal refrigerator goes down to 10dC...when reading the manual. My guess is... it's fine when not sub 10dC. Great video 🎉
I think so! This one is a perfect fit for behind the driver's seat, but I'd be tempted to buy one of the larger dual-zone fridges next. That would span across the width of the trunk... still, it would be my temptation. Otherwise, this CFX3-35 is just about perfect in a small car. Excellent Review ! Question - I understand the unit not being able to achieve it's lowest setting (deep freeze) in extreme temperatures. In your case, have You noticed the unit struggling to maintain 'refrigeration' temperatures when in the car after you installed sun shades etc. but still in elevated temps? I am considering this unit, but would only be using it as a refrigerator in temperatures 'similar' to yours. (High 80's to low / mid 90's) If the unit has to constantly run to maintain 'refrigerated temps' in below 100 degrees F. , I'd need to re-consider some power options. Not at all. The sunshades alone help to keep the car below about 110°F. Still, I don't know that you'd want to run the fridge from the starter battery for more than a few hours between charges. Does the Jackery provide regulated 12v? My GoalZero 400s (nicd & lithium) only power 12v “briefly” if at all on full charge… else have to use 120ac for compressor to run.
I believe both the Jackery and GoalZero regulate to 12V, or maybe 13.8V. I think I've read that the GoalZero turns off because an efficient fridge's compressor will stay off long enough between compression cycles that the GoalZero believes there to be no load and shuts down to conserve its own battery. There may be a way to prevent that, but I don't recall. GoalZero's website may cover that on an FAQ page. If not, send them an e-mail. They're very responsive. Thanks for visiting.

I checked with IR quite some time ago. I have remote temperature sensors in the fridge and other places in the car. You are correct in that the shelf is warmer than the bottom. If I'm grocery shopping and need to carry frozen stuff, I reserve that shelf for the eggs. Frozen goods ride at the bottom at 0°F and unfrozen rides on top of that. Of course, that's just for the trip home, plus perhaps an hour of side trips that don't last long enough to freeze the entire load. I'm confident that EVERYTHING in there would freeze if I stayed out much longer. Other than grocery store trips, I usually set the fridge at 38°F and use the shelf for items that don't need to be quite that cold... chilled (like drinks) vs. cold-preserved (like meats). I'd consider a VW van. However, they haven't been sold in the US in a VERY long time, even longer for the AWD versions (the Routan does not count). The used market for Transporters and Eurovans is very expensive. No thanks! I'm watching the ID Buzz, though. An AWD version would meet my horsepower wants, but would also be likely out of my price range. I could live with a Promaster-based RV although it would be SLOW. @@GillesQuennevilleGQ - Thanks for clarifying. The unit is made to operate at up to 122°F. I've taken precautions to prevent the interior from getting that hot on most days. I've done a bit of testing.
