Man... Tom Cruise captured the intelligence of the man, but this dude most certainly has his physique. Reacher was the best of both worlds in the books. Huge, but hilariously, comically intelligent. I might have to watch this...
Tom Cruise captured absolutely nothing of the Jack Reacher character. How could he ? Any competent actor can read a script and appear to be a very intelligent detective. Without the huge menacing physicality of the written Reacher Cruise could have been playing any anonymous character. At last we have actor here who does the book Reacher justice. I love the small details they throw in to show his analytical mind. The way he looks around the diner to see if anyone is worried about the police is a nice detail
I like the opening scene with the guy intimidating his wife. He’s tough and full off confidence when he’s asking what Reachers wants. I think he would also make a great Lucas Davenport. The only John Sanford movie made (that I know of) stars Mark Harmon as Davenport, like Cruise he didn't come close to what I imagined Sanford's Davenport would look like.
Just watched the first season, and as a fan who has read all the books, it almost brings tears to my eyes to finally see the real Reacher portrayed, all due respect to TC. They have the material to do 20 seasons, and two actors (-Ritchson plus Maxwell Jenkins as young Jack) who can grow old in the roles...wow!!!
Felt the same way. Hope we get a series for every one of Childs’ books. Loved all of the actors and Ritchson is an excellent Reacher.
Oh wow I was wondering if they did it justice
The trailer I saw made it look like a comedy
You have made my day 👍
Couldn't agree more, was more than happy with the character, Jack reacher and very impressed with all 8 episodes. Can't wait for series two.
I feel same way too. I'm wondering how fast they can roll those seasons out! 🤗🤗🤗
Yeahh you said it well
I love that first scene, sometimes it is just a real bad day and that guy knew he should have been better. It’s a real nice moment for those kinds of scenarios.
Exactly. It felt really nice that Reacher didn't just beat the guy up like protagonists would in so many other shows these days.
Yeah, Captain Marvel would have pounded him into the dirt.
I love his and roscoes first interaction. How she could see past the "scary" outer shell and is also brazen enough to challenge him. Probably helps that she made him laugh too.
She just has sense of humour and distance to herself.
I didn't know Alan Ritchson was going to be Jack Reacher, but his physicality is perfect for it.
Absolutely. When I saw they cast Tom Cruise for the movies I was so disappointed. The books clearly state that Reacher is built like Mack truck.
100%, the Cruise movie wasn’t bad if you know nothing about the books
@@mmclaurin8035 Should have cast Steven Seagal. He's 6'5, knows kungfu, and looks the part.
No need for this guy to wear lift shoes. LOL
@@craighill8251 no one takes segall seriously anymore. Serious would have been a meme if he'd headlined it.
This guy is almost exactly how I imagined Reacher to look. At no stage did I ever think Tom Cruise could play him.
Tom did an excellent job doing Reacher!!!!! Does Alan do a better job?? FK yes!!! But dont knock Tom!!!
@@MrBonediver as people who read the books Cruise had no physical traits Reacher is supposed to have. He did a great job all the same
At no stage did anyone ask you.
Cruise is a foot too short, can't make that up no matter what.
Well, tom cruise was a "better waay" better actor for me...
They did a great job, very close to the book. Alan captures Reacher perfectly. We binge watched the whole series entirely in one sitting.
Cant wait for more, with 24+ books minus the two movies hes got a great future ahead.
Even Jack understands you don't say anything to the cops. You speak to a lawyer and the lawyer will speak to the cops.
They just both end up staring at the cops without saying a word.
Alan Ritchson was made for this role. This is a great show, expecting more seasons in the future.
This man used to be Thad Castle. He plays Reacher so well that I forgot he's known for his hysterical screaming
This scene was hilarious 😆 Alan didn’t even flinch the guy just apologized
I love the name. Bauer.
Built like the hulk was a smart move. He'll continue to take his bad days out on the woman though. Unless hulkbuster challenges him to another staring contest.
Wot kinda guy would even think of starting with a unit like that….
When you know you know lol
Pure calm and confidence beats nervous and aggressive. Simple.
He was Perfect. His Stature was insane dwarfed everything. And brilliant series, now introduction is over we know the character he is so I think they should do films with him now for rest of the books.
Yes, quite a departure from diminutive Tom Cruise.
I would rather they had stayed the course with more seasons. Getting two films in the next 5 years, or 4 eight episodes seasons...I choose the second option. Amazon is hungry for content, and they've got a solid series here. Why stop thst for a hypothetical movie that would fail and jeopardize the whole franchise? 🤔
@@khalidamajoud4114 To be honest I agree with you simply because of the Lead Actor. He is brilliant and having more series means more you got to see his badass attitude and action so forget the films and more series please.
Name of the series plz...
Big Kudos to Alan Ritchson for bringing REACHER to Life!
As soon as she placed that heavenly slice of peach pie in front of him, I was like " man, something's going to happen and he's not going to get even one bite". He looked so happy when he was cutting into it and bringing it to his mouth too.
He had time but I guess he didn't want to have food in his mouth in case things got a little spicy
@@RecklessFables The mood was gone.
At least he got a sip of his coffee, right?
And he had better!
He only gets to eat at the very end, before leaving Margrave! Irony.
One of the best series I’ve ever watched. They adhered to the book. Smart move!
You're not wrong
I tried to watch just one episode I was going to drag the series out. Didn’t work just binged watched the entire series. Even the changes they made I thought were well done and I loved the flash backs to his child hood.
That's actually pretty accurate as to how Reacher actually looks like.
Is it on netflix?
@@ingkapatricia9446 Prime
Must have taken him forever to learn his lines for this scene.
I love the fact he got that guy to tone down with just a look that is straight from the Reacher books.
He apparently read all the books to prepare for the role, that preparation paid off I'm glad to say.
LOL!
@@cookiekid7893 always nice when an actor treats the role with respect instead of just as another paycheck. This in turn leads to respect for the fanbase and the viewers.

My wife and I binged watched this on the weekend and it was great. We both loved Ritchson in the role and he had the right kind of humor you find in the books.
Lol i watched the whe series in a day, couldnt stop watching it.
Man... Tom Cruise captured the intelligence of the man, but this dude most certainly has his physique. Reacher was the best of both worlds in the books. Huge, but hilariously, comically intelligent. I might have to watch this...
Tom Cruise was an utterly dreadful casting choice for this guy, idc what you say
Please watch it it is amazing he is both a monster and an intelligent human being in this
It’s worth it.
@@rambo-cambo3581 the author of the book says otherwise
Tom Cruise captured absolutely nothing of the Jack Reacher character. How could he ? Any competent actor can read a script and appear to be a very intelligent detective. Without the huge menacing physicality of the written Reacher Cruise could have been playing any anonymous character.
At last we have actor here who does the book Reacher justice. My only remark would be that he’s too pretty. He needs a few old scars and a nose that’s been broken a couple of times, but I’m not complaining !
I love the small details they throw in to show his analytical mind. The way he looks around the diner to see if anyone is worried about the police is a nice detail
I like the opening scene with the guy intimidating his wife. He’s tough and full off confidence when he’s asking what Reachers wants. Then that long “I will do you some serious harm” stare from Reacher and his intimidating stature has the guy cower to the point of saying “listen man I’m just having a bad day it won’t happen again”😂Smoke stack lightning playing over this scene is perfect! The big bad wolf!!!
He should’ve at least taken that one bite of the pie
Came here to say I felt bad that he never had any of that pie.
He probably did after saying cut
@@PTRMAN nah, he had some, wasn’t that great 😂
as a fatty, if I was in georgia, and someone put anything even remotely resembling peach pie in front of me, and then told me it was the best peach pie, I'm pretty sure I would risk getting shot many times to get some of it inside of me. this scene gave me mouth pains.
ruined the scene for me.
This NEW SERIES was so faithful to the characters, story, AND atmosphere of the novel. Lee Child (author) created one of the most iconic characters in the mystery/thriller genre. Reacher stated in one book..."he was three-months old when he enlisted in the Marines..." His dad was active duty.
Dude just stares and the guy apologizes... daaaaaaaaayum
Just watched the new series and all I can say is F**king brilliant finally a Jack reacher that matches what iv pictured every book iv read. Great job Amazon smashed this bring on season 2 💪🏻
It’ll probably deteriorate when Amazon decides to make it go woke.
@@scottcampbell7944 just like they did with jack ryan. But for now, I will enjoy this series as Jack Reacher is supposed to be

@@Andy_Arkadata yes
i must admit, after Tom Cruise played Reacher in the films i didnt think it was gonna be topped.....but this dude is amazing as Reacher! Im loving this
Tom Cruise was a completely unrealistic adaptation of the character. He was too small and too old.
@@josephhodges9819 YMMV. As a book reader, I didn't mind Cruise really. Sure, he didn't match the books but he conveyed the character well enough that the movies stand on their own, esp. the first one.
@@elanthys IMO the only thing he had going for himself in the movie is his name. He was in his mid-50s and did way too much. His name is the only thing that brought people out to see the movie.
@@josephhodges9819 Fair enough! Your opinion is as valid as mine and I respect that.
Your reply made me wonder, this leads to an interesting question though: Reacher is a reasonably successful book series, but would Prime still have picked it up if Cruise's notoriety hadn't brought broader awareness to it with his adaptations? We'll never really know I guess but I'm very glad they did!
I mean don't get me wrong Tom Cruise captured his personality and his mentality pretty well but physically wasn't him
I like how at 1:20 Jack quickly scans the room to see whether he can rule himself out as a possible suspect from the police's point of view. Looking at others, he realized they are here for him, and a what a disappointment that he couldn't even take a first bite.
As a 37 year marine veteran I’ve always enjoyed reading AND relating to the stories that Lee Child brings in his writings.

All I can say is wow! From the writing to the acting, the directing, the production and the casting. It is all so perfect. I love the Reacher novels but was not a fan of TC. I have binge watched three times already . It never gets old for me.
Absolute casting perfection. Ritchson is young enough to do at least another 10 seasons, I hope he sticks with it and rides this gravy train to the limit.
Beauty never lasts.
The best way to describe how badass the hero is without a single dialogue
Cannot wait for season 2 and hopefully many many more seasons to come. Alan Ritchson is absolutely perfect for Reacher. Now if only someone (PRIME) could figure out how to put a Dirk Pitt series together. Pitt deserves his due.
