Java Steam in 1980

- Filmed on 8mm Cine film in 1980 on my first visit to Indonesia, this video complete with a cringe-making voice over with school-boy errors, features Cirebon, Madiun, Banjar, Cibatu, Purwodadi Sugar Mill with a few other glimpses of steam en route. I made a return with a video camera 3 years later and also visited in 1984 in the very last year of steam on the national railway. This video was requested by an Indonesian rail fan looking for more shots of D52s. Without recourse to a time machine, this is the best I can do.

1:50 "the railways system is very open to the public and you can photograph freely"
Unfortunately the railways system nowaday is very strict, even just for take photo or selfie with your phone at the station.
I was speaking 40 years ago on the video. That's how it was then. Things change in 40 years but it's important for life to be as free as possible while maintaining public safety. Sometimes restrictions are necessary, sometime unnecessary restrictions are applied. It's a delicate balancing act. I hope that common sense will prevail as railways greatly benefit when people are able to photograph trains. It great free publicity. I should also add that the eyes and ears of rail enthusiasts can really help railway safety and security and should be encouraged.
@@JohnRaby I know they just want to ensure everything is safety, but sometimes it so freak and doesn't make sense. Today in Indonesia many cases people get yelled by railways security just because they take picture in station even on safety place.
True bro , Indonesian train station is ridiculously strict nowadays , the securities are often overacting .especialy towards railfans .
6:40 first time hearing the sound of the D52 whistle
🐦
Ada lagi bang yg lebih bagus
most Indonesian Big Locomotives like the D52 class have 5 chime whistles that sounded like most NSW Steam Locomotives or the JNR's Steam Locomotives while the Smallies like the B50 were brass singled chime whistle
4:54 what horn sir? BB?
Most likely the diesel that was hauling our passenger train Cirebon - Semerang. I couldn't say which class of diesel.
@@JohnRaby okay sir, thank you🙏🏻

Do you record cibatu-garut-cikajang trains?
Please see my videos ruclips.net/video/Ti3yjCg6HZg/видео.html (from Cine film) from 10:31 and ruclips.net/video/ulLpwLsRjYg/видео.html (for VHS video) from the start. I only have Cibatu - Garut footage. I didn't see any trains beyond Garut.
unfortunately there are no banjar-pangandaran and garut-cikajang rail lines, even though they are very beautiful routes in Indonesia
Lets just hope, that they will be available in the near future, since Garut-Cikajang branch is now operational..
Its like the locomotives in Malaysia
Sir, have train documentation in Cepu or Blora
I only have the Cepu Forest Railway both real trains and log train charters. I don't have any national railway footage from Cepu or Blora.
