This stage and specially its music were a blast to play in the first time. Even as a kid who didnt know English, I could tell I was near the end of the game and got hyped
the hardest thing to finish this level in short time is not the main difficulty, is because a lot of BUGS!!! and camera suddenly turn to somewhere that have nothing
Yeah, Sonic did it twice before Naruto, the Naruto manga released in 1999 and Sonic did it first in Sonic CD 1993 and a second time in Sonic Adventure 1998 1 year before Naruto
i honestly hate this level, for many reasonable reasons. 1. When you jump to another platform and there's a fire badnik, it can knock you off into the water 2. The fire in the tube is random, which means you could get unexpectedly hit. 3. The homing attack is broken so whenever i attack a box i get flown into the water 4. Even with the panels reflection, Sonic's floaty controls and the darkness doesn't help me jump onto platforms.
I agree with all of these points. the snake also is buggy. I lost 15 lives in total while playing sonic story and 6 were on this stage (others were twinkle park, sky deck, final egg and egg viper) due to falling out the world randomly twice and to the other bs like being knocked off the stage like 3 times.
Skill issue (joke) I can understand your opinion, mine was basically the same in the first times I played this level, but as you keep replaying you learn how to deal with all these obstacles and it becomes really fun to play,it can be hard but if it wasn't it's not gonna be fun to play anyway This stage is my absolute favorite of the game because of the level/gameplay itself (aside from other factors such as the music themes, the story and mainly the inspiration from Mayan architecture because I love the history and culture of the ancient central/south america civilizations)
So basically you don't like the 2nd last level of the game being more difficult than the others? If you get hit by the fire badnik or the fire in the tube, that's on you. Not the game's fault. The homing attack isn't as good in SA1 as SA2 but that's not specific to this stage
To be honest, sonic adventure skyboxes are very scary for me, this is my biggest fear. the most uncomfortable stage for me is the speed highway, I can't even normal pass it.
I Never Heard Of anyone Who is scared Of A City skybox. A. freaking. CITY SKYBOX. (Sorry for my rudeness) Imo the skyboxes ARE immersive And Plunge You Into The World Itself. After all, That's what skyboxes ARE for, no?
This game did the best job of mirroring sonic 3 and knuckles beastly and instinctive energy. The music and the final levels were terrifying. You have this level, the chaos music, the final stage basically being an underground version of death egg versus one up in the sky (basically meaning that instead of being high up in the sky and having with a long dangerous fall ahead of you, you’re now trapped in a pit with a long dangerous fall ahead of you) Even Sonic’s final boss Egg Viper, it was so terrifyingly good. The stakes were completely against Sonic. He literally walked into the Devil’s lair and sat as a piece on his chessboard for their final battle.
When you realize this game is based on the mayan culture which tried to predict the end of the world and it was almost accurate assuming the theory that they skipped 7 years of the calendar is true which dates to 2019 which means they predicted Covid-19
@@Chadthefatherbear why facepalm this is literally just a joke duh (though the mayan theory thing is real and Sonic Adventure was really based on the Maya culture)
Have any of you seen the first Indiana Jones movie? The boilder chase in SA1 looks strangely similar to the one in Indiana Jones except SA1 camera angles plus Sonic's look make the boulder case look better.

The second music in this level is my favourite music in the entire game. I miss this game a lot because I loved playing it and it was my favourite Dreamcast game ever made
This whole level and setting reminds me of Tomb raider anniversary game play where instead of speed running you gotta solve puzzles and do a lot of platforming... sonic adventure did it so great by the way.
I love it when Sonic games actually allow you to control Sonic instead of scripting every single step. That's why Sonic Adventure games feel better than modern Sonic games. But I love them all nonetheless.
I remember this as my least favourite levels I'm not sure why watching it but I'm sure I lost most lives in this level so maybe just hurt my childish pride 😅
The water snake room was the worst part of the level due to the fact you could not stay on the snake without constantly having to adjust your movement.
That checkpoint doesn't really even do anything. If you fail to collect a checkpoint, the game takes you back to the start of the level section and the start of the section was seconds before the checkpoint (at 2:00) so it doesn't matter if he misses that checkpoint or not. At most, that checkpoint saves you like a couple seconds
HONEST OPINION --------------‐------------- This stage is THE worst stage i have ever played in any Sonic game. The physics are dodgy, the controls are clunky, the level design is poor and because the spikes that are in the final part of this stage are placed in such funny positions you actually have to stop moving before you get to them if you are on the panels, otherwise you are coming straight off and back on the ground below. Put it this way, it took me 4 HOURS to complete this stage, where really it should have taken me 5 minutes.
To be honest, sonic adventure skyboxes are very scary for me, this is my biggest fear. the most uncomfortable stage for me is the speed highway, I can't even normal pass it. And this is big problem for me :(
They waited until the tail end of the level to transition to the third part... What were they thinking? Why couldn't they have started the third part after you went through the door after being chased by the "Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark" boulder?
Apparently that part of the song was only supposed to play during the rock chase, but a bug made it play during the section before (mirrors) and after (lit panels), too.
I thought I was the only one who noticed that boulder chase looked similar to the one from Raiders. Was that boulder inspiration for this one? It can't just be coincidence.
In the Wikipedia article of the game it says: "To achieve a more realistic feel for the environments, the core members of Sonic Team visited temples, jungles, and ancient ruins in Mesoamerican landscapes, including Cancun, Guatemala, and Peru."
Sonic adventure 1 was much more challenging than the second because of stages like this. Intricacy & patience versus a bevy of moves/techniques to get thru the stages
Well, SA1 has a strange way with design because the best of levels are less linear. The whole patience thing I actually don't like, because that means they only really gave you one path. Final egg is pretty bad cuz of that, meanwhile, notice speed highway only makes you wait if you go trough the slower parts, closer to the bottom of the stage. SA2 has almost no waiting sections, but it's branching pathways are generally too small to bother going the slow route.
Idk if that is meant to be green mist or the jungle canopy. Looks very much like a backdrop to Tikal, or inspired by the Tikal archaeological site in Guatemala. There are several temples there if you look closely. Having been to Tikal a couple years back I do notice the similarities.
13 years late but you can just jump off the platform by the last checkpoint and hug the wall where the opening to the end is instead of trying to get to that button that spawns the ring trail.
ive been a sonic fan for a while now, and never got to playing any of the adventure games. (Kinda felt like a fake fan ngl considering this is one of the best sonic games) A few months ago, i finally played it and when i got to the mirror puzzle, i didnt even realize it was a puzzle, so i ended up struggling trying to exit out of the 1st person view. (I eventually got it by just going around the puzzle mirror things) well, i understand the level more now, so at this point i think im willing to rate this level a C Tier.
