seeing sonic actually run smoothly on the speed highway street is just so satisfying. this game isnt really known for smooth running on curved surfaces..
Come on, this building is kilometer in height and has some bizarre structures floating nearby Why would I ever be surprised by some hedgehog running down?
They also tend to be rather buggy and some have questionable design choices. For example, the collision in SADX (NOT SA1) and 06 are terrible, with walls constantly reducing your speed and making this annoying, and SADX and 06 have frequent wall clip issues. The level design isn't as good in SA2 and for some reason they had to give Tails shooting stages, and even then Tails and Eggman have some weird physics, especially when rubbing against a wall.
I believe if they focused more on speed stages, and fixed up their collision and clipping issues that it would make this adventure series perfect. I'm not sure who even likes the shooting mech stages, but you might as well keep them in to appease those who did, but treasure hunting and definitely speed stages are where they need to put more time in. Treasure hunting is fun because it's a breather from combat based stages and speed, ramp hopping, rail grinding, loop de loop stages and settles for a more "at your own pace" stage. Theres no doubting that the music from these games are amazing, I can still remember every beat in these soundtracks and I haven't played them since I was 7, which I can only say the same about zelda. Unfortunately, this series doesnt seem to be going anywhere with adventure style gameplay, it's more just boost stages that feel VERY linear, and of course they're always riding on the classic sonic stages appeal. Idk, I feel not long after adventure series is where this series went from heart pumping fun games to boring, mundane sitcom sonic games
@Smoll I mean, sure, they did, but all around they were more solid. Plus, I wrote that comment before I got my Dreamcast. I didn't realize at the time how fucked up SADX was.
i get where you're coming from but at the same time i'd like to say that sonic adventure's hype is pretty unnecessary too. sonic adventure was pretty unpolished in a lot of ways no matter how nostalgic of a game it is, the controls were poor, the graphics were terrible, and the way sonic was controlled in 3d had many kinks to work out. sonic adventure 2 showcased sonic's 3d abilities way better than sonic adventure 1 did to be honest of course there are qualities of the boost gameplay and the adventure gameplay that have their own good and bad side to them for example boost gameplay having less exploration elements and more "just run" elements, but that doesnt mean that some newer games have really fun and good platforming like adventure style gameplay does. sonic generations, sonic unleashed, and sonic colors are really good examples of the boost gameplay being examplified. sonic unleashed brought in amazing level design with fast paced movements and challenging yet fun 3d platforming. sonic colors has a lot of 2d platforming elements while still having the boost gameplay mechanics involved, as well as elements brought in by the wisps. sonic generations is a great example of both 2d platforming and 3d platforming, it's just a really fun game all in all plus, if sega brought back adventure style gameplay, new fans would be confused, old fans who were getting used to the new boost style gameplay would not be happy, and it'd only really cater to those who liked sonic adventure 1 and sonic adventure 2, even sonic 06 which was also kinda adventure-style gameplay if you think about it
The thing I don’t like about this is that it’s in a 4:3 view. I know this is unedited, but I would’ve liked it better if they made the game in 16:9 at default
Being unfamiliar with the Sonic series, I recently played this game for the first time. I wasn't enjoying it at all and couldn't see much appeal, until this level came up and turned everything around. IMO while far from a masterpiece like some fans make it out to be, the game actually gets good from this point onwards.
I miss the platforming style of SA1, where now it's just hold boost and do the QTE left/right bumper hallways. This felt closer to old school Sonic in 3D, where you still have to measure jumps and movement, and feeling less on rails to move around

Pretty sure that’s because DX has some janky collision detection

Besides being dated, which is a problem with most early 3d games, what's the problem people have with the adventure style of gameplay?

Desko the collision problems are because of the bad ports

@@xAustishx I like the shooting mech levels. I thought they were fun. And I thought sa2's level design was good. Most of it at least.
The problem with SADX is that they keep using the worse PC version instead of the much more stable Dreamcast or GameCube versions.
Hey, you can mod the PC version with the Dreamcast textures, lighting and proper 16:9 widescreen.
@@mariochaosspear and better collision.

this sonic is still better than the 4k 60fps games made today and i stand on this statement
No, it's really a fact.
Most modern Sonic games suck ass.
Hey I agree, I'd choose any Sonic game up to 2000-er...06, the modern games aren't that good.
