    I love the Teardrop Explodes. Saw them at Bristol Colston Hall on the culture bunker tour in 81. I missed this whistle test show due to falling asleep on the settee and waking up only to find I had missed the programme. Worth the 40 year wait.

    the great thing, and i speak as a huge Teardop fan from way back when, this was the last time they not only had a great line up, but also were back to basics. Cope Balfe Dwyer, the core members back on front line. Also all the crap had been stripped back. Check out the simplicity of Balfe's key board set up. Great set list.. aready paving the way for Cope's solo career. Most underrated band ever.

    The last couple minutes are just great when Julian is in complete control of his face.😆 They start and finish on my 2 favorite songs. A close 3rd is Great Dominions.

    Troy Tate, what happened to him? (after making a mess of The Smiths first album) ! Not really big on this lineup though, and the bassist has been listening to too much Level 42. The songs though are magnificent.

    • @Rockettez
      @Rockettez 4 года назад +3

      Well, I don’t know about Tate, but the bass player Ron Francois apparently lives in Australia. He was (and probably still is) a very able bass player and the slap thing was just very much in vogue at the time. His playing style is really a far cry from that of Mark King of Level 42. Francois had even released two records with the Sinceros slapping the bass, even before Level 42 released any of their stuff. At the time of this Teardrop show Level 42 was in it’s infancy having released only one complete album. As to Tate as guitarist he must at least have had the longest career any guitarist had in the Teardrops, recording the whole of Wilder.

    It’s difficult to regard a person as great whose opinion of himself went so far beyond his real abilities, but there’s something unique about Julian Cope in his Teardrop Explodes days. I haven’t decided whether he’s daft for taking a pass all these years on the millions he’d have earned doing reunion tours with the Teardrops, or if he simply has _so_ much artistic integrity that he must refuse such offers. Some of his persistent megalomania probably factors into it.

  • @nullvoid244
    @nullvoid244 Месяц назад +1

    They weren't a good live band compared to their peers, listless and dull. No power in their sound, the band plays like session musicians who lack enthusiasm. But Kilimanjaro is a fantastic album that still sounds great today.
