Hi Heidi. Maybe you have done this before. After straining the infusion, I place about a cup of the used oil/herb mixture into a sock (I use nylons), knot it closed and place in my bath water plus I add a few drops of essential oils. So good to soak in. OF COURSE, you must be careful not to slip when getting out. I freeze the left over used oil/herb mixture in portions to use later. Baking soda and vinegar mixture will clean your oily tub. :0)

Thanks for the demo. It is interesting to see the different ways people make their oils. I saw one lady use a bit of alcohol to rehydrate and pull out the properties of the herbs, add her oil, and then attach the jar to her blender (mason jars fit on the attachment of your blender) and blend until warm then set in a warm, dark place. She would then put it on the blender several times a day for a couple of weeks. I guess all that work gets the oil ready sooner. Can't wait to make this! Thanks for the tip about olive oil. I was going to use olive oil for a jewelweed/plantain infusion for the ever present poison ivy we deal with while fencing. If I freeze it or refrigerate it though, I bet it may last longer?
It may be fine as long as it is stored in a cool place, I do not think you need to freeze it or even refrigerate if you have a cool enough place to store it
Thanks again for a wonderful video!! We've been drying Calendula all summer and are ready to make our first oil infusion for our homemade lotion. My question is, our house is super cold, does this need to be sat in a warm spot to properly infuse?
Great video! I bought some organic hibiscus I wanted to use. It is very soft which makes me think there is moisture in it. Should I air dry it before infusing in avocado oil?
Hibiscus is related to marshmallow so there sire similar benefits. Yes, whenever infusing in oil, it is safest for herbs to be fully dried first, you do not want moisture in the oil
I just found your channel and can't stop watching your amazing videos! I've been struggling with my facial skin my whole life. Even fancy brands and prescribed creams only do little to ease the redness, so I looked up more natural ways and here I am, thank you for this! :D Thanks to you now I know that you can infuse it for 2 months and completely without heat. Most sources I read say a month max and with a little help of the sun at least. But I live in a tropical country and the sun here will turn any oil rancid in no time haha. A question if you don't mind: is there any significant benefit difference for double infusion? I don't mind waiting 4 months if it really gives a greater result, but if the difference is subtle, I'd better make my own natural skin cream as soon as possible :D
I have considered doing a double infusion and yes, it would make it stronger to strain out the old herbs. add fresh ones, and infuse again. I have not done this yet but it should double the potency.
Hi, I found your videos and am happy for the instructions. If I don't have those plants growing in my backyard, where would you recommend I purchase please?
I get most herbs and spices that I do not already grow from Frontier Co Op: amzn.to/3X2ggTK Or Azure Standard: www.azurestandard.com/shop/search/herbs?a_aid=PXIIzcRQhW
You have explained everything beautifully , thanks for sharing your knowledges with us. Take love ❤️ Dear Rain, can i use Jojoba , olive , almond & grapeseed oil together to infusing with several mixed dried Herbal leaves for Skin Care ?
Thanks for the instruction! I'm growing lots of herbs this year, excited to give these a try. (Btw, our homestead is in Pt. Angeles) love to meet you one day, God bless you and keep you safe.
It depends on how you store them and if they are fully dried. If properly stored, they should last for a good many years but can still lose potency over time
Love your videos! Are there other herbs you recommend to replace viola and marshmallow leaves? I have marshmallow root available in store near me but not those herbs specifically.
You can use any number of herbs, just one or a blend of however many you want. Here is a newer video on oil infusion for skin cream where I show and mention several more you can use: ruclips.net/video/ZE3it47z1OQ/видео.html

Thanks for your good work keep it up I know you're helping lots of people.
I simply do not have time to type up transcripts for every single video I have (well over 1600) but I have a newer video you can check out that goes hand in hand with a list of skin health herbs that I did type up: ruclips.net/video/ZE3it47z1OQ/видео.html
Hi! This is a great video! Thann you... I was wondering what you put in because i didn’t hear everything. Calendula, marshmallow and what were the other two?
When you pick your rose petals to dehydrate to put in your oils, do they have to be perfect rose petals or can they be a little whilted? Do they lose their benefits if whilted?
Thank you so much for that! I was going through some of the comments but couldn't find what I would like to ask: How about using fresh herbs? Do I have to dry them first for better, more consistent results? maybe because of possible mold issues?
If you are infusing an oil for culinary use, the sesame oil would be good but I would personally not use it for skin care, it has a rather strong smell that one may not want on their face. I am sure you can eat the expended herbs if you would like as long as they are also edible herbs like i used here. I have even considered tossing them into stir fry but have yet to try it
I had to revisit this. Someone I know has psoriasis so much so that he cannot rent rooms for his job. I have friend who will rent a room to him. His medication runs more than most people make in a month. Which he is unable to get anymore.
I was thinking of a suggestion for the left over herbs. Would it be possible to boil them in some water with a little vinegar and make some kind of a toner or skin refresher spray with them?
I use quart jars for oil infusions but you can use recycled product jars as long as you make sure to keep the lid that goes to it. Best place to find canning jars as far as price is second hand. Often times people just give them away. That is how I got a good amount of my jars
thank you for this video it is great. So how did you decide on the two month infusion period? I am wondering if 1 month is a good enough period, weather there will be the same result - 1 month vs 2 months. Have you ever tried to do the two time periods and did you see any change in your results? Thank you!
You can go as little as two weeks if you keep it in the sun for that period of time, however, it is strongly recommended you use avocado oil in that case. I personally also wonder about the affect of direct light on the herbs and if it would degrade the benefits of them. Any added heat will make the process faster but too much can also degrade the benefits. I am sure one month may be sufficient but I always like to double up to be certain. In fact, I keep a couple jars going at a time and just allow them to sit with the herbs in them until I need them and that can sometimes be several months.
Do you sell your homemade skin creams? I am trying to find them after you said that you sell them on the tutorial video. It keeps sending me to other things? I really would love to buy some of your creams if you are still selling them. Thanks, Lea
@@srudie I dry the leaves in oven on low temperature, ground them with a pestle. Fill jar with the powdered leaves and top with olive oil. Leave in the sun for 4 weeks. Use a double boiler on low heat for about 20 min add about 1/4 cup of bees wax and add some clove essential oil
Heidi im quite an amatuer with everything herbal and infusing. Im thinking of burning some of the herbs after their infusion. Culturally my people would burn incense mixtures and herbs to fragrant their homes. Have you noticed if the used oil infused herbs release any scents? To afriad to try and be left with an ash smelling herbs and an angry mum. Some just dont understand an experimenter's ways😅. Thank you for the great video😊
Hi Heidi, I love making you skin balm but only infuse calendula flowers. How long does the infused oil last. I infused it last year. I used avocado oil.
You can always use more of any of the other herbs and/or add dandelion flowers instead of the pansies. I do not use nasturtiums in the skin cream blend, anyway, that is what I use in the hair oil blend. A couple other options I do not recall if I mentioned in this particular video are honeysuckle flowers and/or red clover flowers
Hi Heidi - I found a jar just over a year old, do you think it will still be ok to use? It still looks good, not cloudy and the petal colours are still visible. Neither does it smell rancid in anyway. I have enjoyed rewatching this video. Thank you, and, God Bless 🙌 🙏 Is it possible to *over* infuse?
My oils are not what I would actually consider "cold" as I keep them in the living room close to our wood stove so they stay more on the warm side. I do not believe personally that one is necessarily better than the other unless you are over heating the oil which can destroy some of the benefits of the herbs and if it is an olive oil or other low smoke point oil, it could go rancid if over heated
What is the last ingredient you’re putting in? Collenials? I don’t know how to spell it. Also, can this be used on this skin alone? Like I just put this oil on my skin? Sorry, I’m new to all of this. You’re amazing!
Hello lady! I found you recently, love your channel I want to do some of this infusion oils, I need to know how log is the situation or expiration once is ready?
Hello, in the beginning of this video you've mentioned 5 herbs then you mentioned 4 making the first jar what were the ingredients or did you put in all 5 ? Could you slow down a little please explaining how to infused. Thank you
I put in all 5 but may have forgotten to say the 5th when I was adding, it happens because I am human. Also know, you can always slow down the video play speed by following the instructions I gave in this video: ruclips.net/video/nRjpE1xQwAo/видео.html
The choice of herbs and the number of them you want to add is up to you. This often gets changed up depending on what is available or what I have the most of. Sometimes my ratios change as well.
Been wondering for awhile now if hollyhock could be a substitute for marshmallow? If not it could be left out and still have good healing properties I would think. I’m so glad to have found your site. Thank you! God is good all the time!
I live in Spain. I doubt I could find avocado oíl. What about coconut oíl? Where we live we can get authentically cold pressed oíl and fresh. Would that influence how long it lasts?
I think I did say that it can be any oil you prefer. Coconut oil is a good one if you get the kind that stays in liquid for or you keep it in a warm enough area that it does
If I have several oils made from single plants, can I just combine the oils I want to have in a salve and add beeswax instead of infusing all the herbs in one jar like you are doing?
You can, especially if you are concerned about rancidity but I never do and have never had issues. I am sure a lot of that is due to the more stable oils I use
I have seen this done and tried it myself but my concern is it getting too hot and ruining some of the good benefits of the herbs. My personal opinion when it comes to such things is that less heat and longer infusion yields a better product
The pansies..are the flower heads? I know the calendula is.. mine just didn't grow well enough to flower sadly.. cannot use the leaves of calendula and pansies also?
@@RainCountryHomestead fantastic 👏 thank you! Also I did a heat infusion on rosehips because that was the recommendation. What are your thoughts on that.. I still have another batch to do. I'd like to try something different with them 🤔 but if heat is the best way to process them ill stick to that

There is a local lady that is doing something similar, she lives in a tiny apartment but her landlord has allowed her to plant whatever she wants in the small little garden area just in front of her apartment and in front of other tenants as well since they do nothing with it. AND they are going to allow her to till up a chunk of the property in back for putting in a garden!
Rain Country That is awesome! Mine said I could put as many raised beds as I wanted at the other end of our building. We have a HUGE open field there. I just don’t trust the neighborhood heathens not to steal everything or make a mess of it.
Heidi this was a great video, thank you so much for sharing. I hope you have a blessed day 🌻🐝🌻
Thank you Robin, you too! :D
I would like to try your cream and will look on your Etsy😁

It should say on my store front to email me since we had to leave Etsy. So if you want a list of products, please email me at raincountryhomestead@gmail.com
Love this video
Thank you Heidi! I love getting information from you. So are ALL the flowers and herbs that you use for the infused oil dried?? I think you said that in the video but wanted to make sure!
Thank you so much for your time and information! God bless ♥️
Yes, only dried herbs should be used when infusing oils. For other types of extracts that is not important but for oils it is
Your in forks washington ? I’d love to meet you and learn what I can !!! I’m just a few minutes north of Seattle
Thank you very much 💕💚
Can't wait to make this!
My personal opinion is you will get a better, faster infusion if in a warm location. Top of the refrigerator is a good spot
I can do that ❤️ Thank you for taking the time to respond!!
I'm a new subscriber from Nigeria

Thanks for sharing.
Thank you for sharing
Hi, I found your videos and am happy for the instructions. If I don't have those plants growing in my backyard, where would you recommend I purchase please?
I get most herbs and spices that I do not already grow from Frontier Co Op: amzn.to/3X2ggTK
Or Azure Standard: www.azurestandard.com/shop/search/herbs?a_aid=PXIIzcRQhW
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you very much

You have explained everything beautifully , thanks for sharing your knowledges with us. Take love ❤️
Dear Rain, can i use Jojoba , olive , almond & grapeseed oil together to infusing with several mixed dried Herbal leaves for Skin Care ?
Yes, just make sure you do not infuse in too warm of an area or your olive oil can go rancid
Thanks for the instruction! I'm growing lots of herbs this year, excited to give these a try. (Btw, our homestead is in Pt. Angeles) love to meet you one day, God bless you and keep you safe.
How cool! We ran into a subscriber when we went into Costco a few months ago just before things got crazy.
Hey my love does herbs ever expire.
It depends on how you store them and if they are fully dried. If properly stored, they should last for a good many years but can still lose potency over time
@@RainCountryHomestead they are sealed in a zip lock bag and in a dark box
Love your videos! Are there other herbs you recommend to replace viola and marshmallow leaves? I have marshmallow root available in store near me but not those herbs specifically.
You can use any number of herbs, just one or a blend of however many you want. Here is a newer video on oil infusion for skin cream where I show and mention several more you can use: ruclips.net/video/ZE3it47z1OQ/видео.html
I really love this, God is first God bless u what ever u do
I went through the transcript so I could get the spelling of some of the words and I found that this is a very complicated system or video and I think it should be a lot less complicated so I'm going to pass on this healing oil because I can't make heads or tails of what she's saying.
Pansies and rose petals and now I also add lavender flowers
Hi Heidi. Can you use this oil as a serum? I’ve used it to make your skin cream and I love it. Thank you, I love your videos
Yes, you can use it straight if you want :)
When you pick your rose petals to dehydrate to put in your oils, do they have to be perfect rose petals or can they be a little whilted? Do they lose their benefits if whilted?
I believe when they start dying, they do lose some benefits, though i am not certain of this, it is just a common thought on most plants
Love the explanation! Is it best to add essential oils during the infusion or after?
I prefer to add it after so none goes to waste in the straining process in case some of the spent herbs soak it up
thank u
try adding vitamin E oil into your olive oil as it stops oils from going rancid
Where did you get your herbs from and what herbs were they ?
The herbs are all listed in the video and are all home grown
Thank you so much for that! I was going through some of the comments but couldn't find what I would like to ask: How about using fresh herbs? Do I have to dry them first for better, more consistent results? maybe because of possible mold issues?
When infusing oils one should only use dried herbs, not fresh. You do not want moisture in the oil
This is so interesting! Thanks a lot for sharing. Just a small question, can we do this is in sesame oil? Can we eat the left overs? Just wondering!
If you are infusing an oil for culinary use, the sesame oil would be good but I would personally not use it for skin care, it has a rather strong smell that one may not want on their face. I am sure you can eat the expended herbs if you would like as long as they are also edible herbs like i used here. I have even considered tossing them into stir fry but have yet to try it
@@RainCountryHomestead Thanks a lot that helps!
I had to revisit this. Someone I know has psoriasis so much so that he cannot rent rooms for his job. I have friend who will rent a room to him. His medication runs more than most people make in a month. Which he is unable to get anymore.
That is too bad. I wonder how well an oil like this would work for that?
I was thinking of a suggestion for the left over herbs. Would it be possible to boil them in some water with a little vinegar and make some kind of a toner or skin refresher spray with them?
Possibly but there is not a lot of benefits left in the herbs once they have been extracted by the oil
Great video m! Thank you Heidi 💙.. what size is you’re jar are you using ? And where’s the best place to get them?
I use quart jars for oil infusions but you can use recycled product jars as long as you make sure to keep the lid that goes to it. Best place to find canning jars as far as price is second hand. Often times people just give them away. That is how I got a good amount of my jars
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you ☺️
thank you for this video it is great.
Hi Heidi, its summer time in India. Can we keep the oil bottle for infusion in direct sun light for 3-4hours or it should be kept in dark /warm place?
Some of that will depend on the oil you use but yes, it can be done that way.
Thank you Heidi
Do you sell your homemade skin creams? I am trying to find them after you said that you sell them on the tutorial video. It keeps sending me to other things? I really would love to buy some of your creams if you are still selling them. Thanks, Lea
Yes, I do but not on Etsy anymore. If you contact me at raincountryhomestead@gmail.com I will send you the product list with pricing and how to order
Thanks for sharing. How do you prevent condensation droplets in your glass jars?
If your herbs, jars, and lids are completely dry, there should not be any moisture to create condensation
When infusing and waiting the two months do I have to do anything such as Mix the herbs, shake container?
It is a good idea to shake it occasionally, I try to but do not always remember
Rain Country thank you

Heidi im quite an amatuer with everything herbal and infusing. Im thinking of burning some of the herbs after their infusion. Culturally my people would burn incense mixtures and herbs to fragrant their homes. Have you noticed if the used oil infused herbs release any scents? To afriad to try and be left with an ash smelling herbs and an angry mum. Some just dont understand an experimenter's ways😅. Thank you for the great video😊
I just toss them in the fire and have not thought of seeing how they would work as an incense but that is a good idea, I should try that!
Hi Heidi, I love making you skin balm but only infuse calendula flowers. How long does the infused oil last. I infused it last year. I used avocado oil.
Should last for a very long time, especially if you are either storing in a cool area or only using shelf stable oils like avocado
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you Heidi
I am new to this and I’m having trouble finding nasturtiums and pansies for this recipe. Any suggestions?
You can always use more of any of the other herbs and/or add dandelion flowers instead of the pansies. I do not use nasturtiums in the skin cream blend, anyway, that is what I use in the hair oil blend. A couple other options I do not recall if I mentioned in this particular video are honeysuckle flowers and/or red clover flowers
Hi Heidi - I found a jar just over a year old, do you think it will still be ok to use?
It still looks good, not cloudy and the petal colours are still visible. Neither does it smell rancid in anyway.
I have enjoyed rewatching this video.
Thank you, and, God Bless 🙌 🙏
Is it possible to *over* infuse?
@@TwinkleToes2day I have used infused oils older than that so as long as the oil is not rancid (you would know by the smell) than it should be fine
@@RainCountryHomesteadMany thanks Heidi, thats great to know 😊 🙏 💐
Do you ever do warm infusions? Are cold infusions superior in terms of oil quality?
My oils are not what I would actually consider "cold" as I keep them in the living room close to our wood stove so they stay more on the warm side. I do not believe personally that one is necessarily better than the other unless you are over heating the oil which can destroy some of the benefits of the herbs and if it is an olive oil or other low smoke point oil, it could go rancid if over heated
What is the last ingredient you’re putting in? Collenials? I don’t know how to spell it. Also, can this be used on this skin alone? Like I just put this oil on my skin? Sorry, I’m new to all of this. You’re amazing!
Yes, you can use the oil alone if you so choose. I prefer to mix with other ingredients to make a cream.
Thank you so much! You being so in tune with nature is magical! 🌙
Hello lady!
I found you recently, love your channel I want to do some of this infusion oils, I need to know how log is the situation or expiration once is ready?
If you use a shelf stable oil like avocado there is no concern of expiration
@@RainCountryHomesteadthank you for answer. ♥️ I really appreciate everything you do😊
Hi there! Can I use a cold pressed, unrefined jojoba oil for my oil?
I do not see why not I would just recommend checking to see how shelf stable it is
Hello, in the beginning of this video you've mentioned 5 herbs then you mentioned 4 making the first jar what were the ingredients or did you put in all 5 ? Could you slow down a little please explaining how to infused. Thank you
I put in all 5 but may have forgotten to say the 5th when I was adding, it happens because I am human. Also know, you can always slow down the video play speed by following the instructions I gave in this video: ruclips.net/video/nRjpE1xQwAo/видео.html
would the drained flowers have any value left to be used in your soap bars?
There would be a little but not much. The most benefit they would add is texture.
Can you mix as many herbs as a recipe calls for in one infusion ? Thank you for your help 🥰
Hollyhocks and marshmallow are related. There are very similar benefits in the hollyhock and one of them is being good for skin health.
where did you get the marshmallow plant
I got the seed from Baker creek initially and now I sell the seeds from my own plants on my store.
I live in Spain. I doubt I could find avocado oíl. What about coconut oíl? Where we live we can get authentically cold pressed oíl and fresh. Would that influence how long it lasts?
I think I did say that it can be any oil you prefer. Coconut oil is a good one if you get the kind that stays in liquid for or you keep it in a warm enough area that it does
Hello Ma'am. I see your jars were vaccum sealed. Do you have to reseal them after opening to store them again later?
For herbs I do not reseal jars I am working through.
If I have several oils made from single plants, can I just combine the oils I want to have in a salve and add beeswax instead of infusing all the herbs in one jar like you are doing?
Yes, you sure can :)
Just made this oil, thank you. Do you vacuum seal before putting it away from the 2-3 months?
You can, especially if you are concerned about rancidity but I never do and have never had issues. I am sure a lot of that is due to the more stable oils I use
@@RainCountryHomestead thank you. I used mostly Avocado oil but ran out and had to top it off with Grape seed oil.
Do you have a book?
No, and no intentions of writing one any time in the near future if ever, sorry
Thanks for sharing. What do you think about speeding things up by putting the jar into low heat?
I have seen this done and tried it myself but my concern is it getting too hot and ruining some of the good benefits of the herbs. My personal opinion when it comes to such things is that less heat and longer infusion yields a better product
Perfect! Thanks for your reply...
The pansies..are the flower heads? I know the calendula is.. mine just didn't grow well enough to flower sadly.. cannot use the leaves of calendula and pansies also?
Yes, you can use the leaves of both
@@RainCountryHomestead fantastic 👏 thank you! Also I did a heat infusion on rosehips because that was the recommendation. What are your thoughts on that.. I still have another batch to do. I'd like to try something different with them 🤔 but if heat is the best way to process them ill stick to that
Can you cook the herbs up, because it was just in olive oil? use them in food? 🤔 sorry I hope that's not a dumb question. I'm quite Clueless...
I am assuming you mean the expended herbs, if so, yes, but it would depend on if you like the flavor of lavender in your food, which I do not.
Sorry yes, that is what I meant. Thank you for replying in such a timely manner, I really appreciate it! 💗 🤗
