As a DM I operated under the military adage that "No plan survives first contact with the enemy." I learned early on to sketch out the raw bones. Start-Events-Preferred Outcome. Expect the unexpected and roll with the punches. But my one immutable rule was always "I am the DM, this is my world, and as such my word is final" I was running the game/scenario/campaign to have fun and provide a good experience for my players. I'd encountered my share of Rules Lawyers. (I swear, the young ones are THE WORSE) But when the game was over, did everyone have a good time? That was ALL I wanted.
