"Christmas isn't Christmas without presents- so here's mine to you! A surprise video to end 2023 with.
Come spend Christmas eve and day with us in the farmhouse. There's plenty of festive treats and feasts to enjoy, as well as winding down the studio with the help of the kitty boys. Mr Pup will also make an appearance and will bring us on an evening stroll to bid farewell to the final days of the year.

✿ Gillian's Triple Choc & Pecan Cookies ✿
227 g salted butter softened
232 g golden granulated sugar
213 g light brown sugar packed
2 tsp pure vanilla extract
2 large eggs
427g all-purpose flour
2 tbsp cocoa powder
½ tsp baking powder
1 tsp sea salt
396 g chocolate chips - mix of milk and white
Handful of chopped pecans
Add flour, salt and baking powder to a bowl and set aside. In another bowl cream together the sugars, and butter. Once smooth and fluffy, add in two eggs and vanilla and mix until combined. Add the flour mix to this mixture until a dough forms. Sprinkle in the chocolate chips and pecans until combined. Roll the dough into a cylindrical shape and let sit in the fridge for an hour. Then slice the dough into discs with a knife and place onto a lined baking tray. Bake at 170 degrees celsius for 8-10 mins. Allow to cool and enjoy!

I did not see this video on Christmas Eve but I consider it a beautiful gift anyway. As I sat here viewing your beautiful video the wind is howling, the snow is swirling and it is a mere 14 degrees outside. This is unusually cold for our climate here in Oregon in the U.S. It's all I can do to keep up with the hummingbird feeders. I have two electric feeders but at 14 degrees even they eventually freeze. So I'm switching them every hour or two with 3 regular feeders and thawing them all out in between. I cannot handle the idea of these tiny little creatures perishing in this storm....I will do my best to keep them alive. I discovered your blog this summer and I really enjoy it. I love your garden, your studio, your home and your kitties and puppy! I too am an avid gardener and I only have one kitty but we adore him. He is my gardening buddy through and through. Thank you for the beautiful Christmas video and reaching out to us from Ireland. I am part Irish and someday wish to visit your lovely country. Looking forward to what you bring in 2024. God Bless.

Cardinals , Chickadees ,Titmice, Finches and even a pair of Bluebirds this week. I am very happy and blessed!

Happy New Year! I have a few birds that winter come eat at my feeders red northern cardinals, mourning doves, starlings only a few blue jays. A community of black crows. And some grey squirrels and Chipmunks. The Peregrine falcons have hunted and destroyed many of my bird families this past late summer. I live in the outskirts of a city that has lost vast areas of farm land to human encroachment which is very sad to see. Thank you very much for sharing your country side filming your walks. The sunsets and sunrises are beautiful. Stay safe and well in the coming new year of 2024. 😊
Thank you for sharing your beautiful furry friends💚I love cats......I think that's what gets forgotten at Christmas time of year, rest, relax and hibernate.....like nature! We seem to do anything BUT that in North America and it is really hard to go against the grain, so to speak. I cannot handle the frenzied pace that most seem to keep up during December so thank you for reminding me I'm not alone in this.💝

A lovely surprise, thank you! We have lots of birds in our garden ... we have no cats, or dogs at the moment, so the birds reign supreme, and I feed them too. The blackbird is most common, and sparrows; but we also have a lot of a wee native bird, the waxeye, like a very small finch. We have finches too, goldfinches and green finches, chaffinches. I let the weeds and grasses grow, many of the wild birds feed on their seedheads. Happy New Year to you too. We pray for peace in the world. Blessings always. From NZ. 🙏🙏♥💚

Thank you for this surprise video and sharing your Christmas with us. I also have regular bird visitors that wait for me in the trees each morning to come outside with their food, blackbird and Robin are first soon followed by wood pigeons and collared doves, then in fly the ravens and magpies like a gang of bouncers and scare them all away but the starlings like a group of noisy teenagers soon clear up what’s left. The most common birds at my feeder are the Chickadees. In winter we get the mountain chickadees come down as well as the varied thrush not to mention the giant flocks of Trumpeter Swans gathering in the fallow fields... The mountain chickadees, smaller than the black capped, are much braver and have no problem landing on people. I used to help my grandmother hold up her hand so the birds would feed from her palm. When I roast coffee in the winter, the chickadees fly through the warm smoke when I open the grill lid to stir the beans and once, one landed on my head while it was snowing... I started texting a friend about it and as I was texting, the bird dropped off my head and landed on my moving thumb! It was very cool, texting with a wild bird on my thumb. :) I love feeding and interacting with the wild birds, its so rewarding.
Oh wow that sounds like a magical experience! My birdies are not that friendly 😅 . It would be so special to have one land on my hand like that! They’re such fascinating little creatures 🥰✨💕
A trick you can try... set up a scarecrow type in a chair, wearing a hat, near your bird feeders. Place seeds on the hat, they get used to the human form and feed from the hat, now and then you can go out, take the place of the scarecrow, take the feeders down and place them under the chair while you are sitting there, and put the hat on and they should land on your head to get the seeds. Eventually, holding seeds in your hands as well, they should land on your hand and soon you can get rid of the scarecrow entirely and they will be used to your presence and be more apt to land on your hands offering seed.

She was so touched to receive them as we had taken a two week trip to your amazing island last June/July. Your packaging was so elegantly done and she loved the added tea bag and note.🤗Oh, and I have your sister's perfect poem on my bookshelf. You are such a blessing - I love revisiting Ireland with each video. Thank you from the bottom of my heart and have a year filled with the blessings you have so creatively given to others! (I've been seeing lots of cardinals at my feeders as we live in Texas.😍)

Lovely surprise video, thank you! In California, I have Acorn Woodpeckers, Nutthall's Woodpeckers, Nuthatches, Titmice, and Goldfinches at my feeders. Whatever drops to the ground, the Oregon Juncos and White-crowed Sparrows gobble up! Happy New Year for a best year in 2024!

Oh, what a lovely surprise! I’m the same. One of my fave morning rituals is feeding the birds. Right now we have many Juncos as they migrate here in winter. Plus nuthatch, sparrows, chickadees, woodpeckers and the occasional blue jay. Thought you might enjoy this story related to birds: For our family Christmas we bring a non gender gift and no name tag and pick gifts from under the tree. We pick numbers to see what order we get to pick a gift. I was the last one out of 15 this year. And I ended up getting my own gift I’d brought! At first I felt a bit sad about it. But then I realized how much fun I had putting the gift together and how fun it was to get it back….because…it was bird seed, seed blocks, and a bird feeder! It was meant to be!! ❤ Happy New Year! 🎉 I’m so grateful for you and your beautiful spirit!
