The engine on this car sounds as if it's 3/4 of the way to becoming a full-on racing engine, or very close to it. Whoever bought this car has a beast on their hands! A really fun beast at that. LOL.
Absolutely amazing meeting you today and seeing the machines you collected restore and care for ! Your knowledge and care for theses machines is great . A true enthusiast !
I think "Widowmaker" probably applied to all 930's until production ended in 1989 or so. Think of it this way: The '78-'89 930's had the more powerful 3.3 L engine vs the 3.0 L in the '76 and '77 cars, right? The 3.3's suddenly produced more torque when the driver least expected it, (as in a curve, for example) causing the back tires to spin and lose traction, therefore causing the car to spin off the road backwards. But this also happened with the '76 - '77 cars as well. So I think "Widowmaker" applied to all 930's from '76 until '89. Anyone feel free to correct me if I'm wrong on my thoughts about this aspect of the 930 cars. Peace.
Just curious- did any prospective customers actually crash a brand new 930 during a test drive? If so, did their own insurance pay for the damage? Thanks.
@@amgbenzvtwelveturbo3692 Not that I was aware. There were few test drives and fewer cars. They were spoken for. They just bought them and we delivered them. The only time I had a problem was a rich kid in a 944 turbo was abusing the car on a test drive I turned the key off after telling him to pull over and told him to get out. I did sell a 944 turbo to a young Doctor from Dallas that hit the back of a garbage truck at 85 and died. That was sad. 944 turbo was a really fun car to drive. tiny shifter really balanced, stop on a dime and corner on rails.
Also I was fortunate to sell Richard Dent a black 1986 Porsche 911 cab turbo look.He was the MVP for the Superbowl winning 85 BEARS.. Delivered it to our main store in Barrington Ill Barrington motor works. He was a really nice guy and had an entourage at delivery. Never saw this again his hands were so big he could change radio stations with his fingers while grasping the shifter.

This is the Porsche that got me hooked on Porsches. It was on the cover of Car & Driver I think in 1985
