We have plans for 6112, Dobison IMC/MRR/MRA, but not sure if we'll do Iron 4x4 again as we have them on an Xterra and it took way too much work to get it to where it's at now with just using the Ironman kit.
What would you recommend for a 2022 TRD sport with Xreas have 3 inch spacer lift and lost ride quality it’s a daily driver but do go on light off roading a few times a year
Which of these setups would you recommend for the following criteria- 2018 TRD OR used mostly as a daily and the rest of the time on moderate fire roads/light wheeling. I'd like to be sitting around 3" above factory height. KDSS is on its way out and I'm inclined to rip out the system as opposed to repairing it (so I assume I'd be looking at compression adjustment with the sway bars removed). Thanks for the breakdown video!
Bilstein 4600 or 5100 would the be closest thing toa TRD OR. Bilstein 6112 and 5160 would be the closest on older TRD Pro equipped with Bilstein. TRD Pro Equipped with Fox would be closest to OME BP51.

Fox 2.5 DSC are a nice solution, sporty, and adjustable. I think Hellwig has better sway bars for your vehicle. Old Man Emu BP51 are also excellent, adjustable to be firm or soft.

Nothing will be comparable to the Mercedes. If you're only keeping this stock and nothing else, stock to Bilstein 4600 for OE replacement, Bilstein 5100 for tow/hauling and Bilstein 6112 if you want to get into off-roading.

Great video! I have 2010 4Runner with Bilstein 5100s. I’m looking to upgrade to something with a softer ride quality. What would you recommend? 90% hwy 10% trail
If you like the idea of a softer ride and you are mostly driving on the street you will probably like Eibachs Stage 2R kit with their 2.0 Coilovers and Pro Truck Reservoir rear shocks.
If you were going to put one of these on your 4runner and you were just mainly looking to level it and have something a little better or close to oem front struts
We love Icon, but they definitely run firm and require a fair amount of service. If it is just for looks, then Eibach is the better call. Lots of good options here, it'll come down to budget. Dobinsons has a great riding setup, new springs, new shocks, between $1200 and 1800, depending which shocks you go with. Old Man Emu has a similar setup, or you can piece together Eibach springs and Bilstein shocks if you need something on a smaller budget www.shocksurplus.com/search?Year/1994/Make/Toyota/Model/Land-Cruiser/DriveType/4WD
Sure you definitely do not need anything crazy. I would say you would be really happy with something like the Eibach Pro Truck Sport struts and shocks. They should make it a good bit more comfortable and stable on the road. Plus they last a long time so you get a lot for your money.
Eibach on a budget, Icon mid tier, Dobinsons MRR top end. We like adjustability for work loads / overland gear loads / daily driven vehicle that sees a lot of variance in use
Got a 19’ ORP. mostly commute to and from work but I do take it on the trials once a month. Nothing hardcore just AZ desert driving. Wash driving etc. just want a nice soooft ride. And was considering OME but was fearing that it’s overkill for what I do?
The BP51s are some of the most versatile shocks there are, can be made incredibly soft for your conditions. The adjustment isn't that easy, but if you know you're offroad for the weekend, you can set them up to be very buttery. Then tighten it all back up for the week on the pavement. Overkill maybe, but they'll last 100k miles and be the best shocks you've ever owned. Other more affordable options would be the Fox 2.0, or Dobinsons IMS.
Great video! Will the Eibach stage 2 rear springs provide more support then my stock? I get about a 1/2” droop with a small bike rack. It will go down a full inch with just one bike added. Thanks!
Interesting. I got an Elka fully adjustable, front and rear, and it rides perfectly both on and off road. No body lean, hugs corners like a car, and tackles any big bumps and such with ease. Definitely rides like a truck, but I love that. It’s what I grew up with. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Hi Bro! Thanks for your video! Could you help me to make a better choice? I own 4runner 285 trd off road without KDSS. The Supplier offers me following lift kits- FOX 2.0 performance series, Dobinsons, ARB Nitro Charger Sport, Tough Dog, Iron Man. What is your opinion about these kits?
It really depends on your goals and how you are using it. Give us a shout through our website with a better idea of how you are using it and what you're looking to achieve from the upgrade and we would love to help you out. www.shocksurplus.com/pages/contact-us
the trd pro are pretty good for all around use. the bp51 are adjustable, and you can also gain some more ride height in the front if that's something you're after. the bp51 can be made much much softer compared to the trd pro fox shocks.
Eibach's 2.0 setup is always more than adequate, not really mentioned here, but since the recording of this video Eibach has made it onto our list for great daily driver comfort while staying capable offroad www.shocksurplus.com/search?vendor/Eibach&query=eibach-tacoma
They are height adjustable but not like a coilover. They use a circlip to determine the lift height. They are a great staring point and really solid for day to day driving.
Really depends on what you're trying to do. What the build goal is or build plans? Is it stock height or is lifted? Does it have anything that alters the constant weight load? Contact our sales directly for assistance.
I've heard complaints about the ease of compression and rebound adjustment for the OME BP51's. What is you take on that for someone who would often make adjustments for the street vs. off-road? Thanks.
They are a tad bit difficult to adjustment because they are on the shock body. The rear are easy to access but the front coilover is a bit more work to adjust.
Service or Rebuilds intervals varies on one's usage and how hard you drive, condition you're driving and how long you've had them. You can view our rebuilding fees with this link here: www.shocksurplus.com/pages/shock-service
Depends on what you're looking for. Bilstein 8112 are great for high speed driving in the desert and such. OME BP51 are better as an overland set up that's ready to hit the trails to get you to your next camp site.
What's the spring rate on OEM springs for an off road premium? Also how does the Eibach 2.0 or Bilstein 6112 compare to the Ironman Foam Cell pro? They are roughly around the same price.
We don't have the exact OEM specs but they should be around 550 lbs. give or take. We don't have any update on Iron man Foam Cells Pro quite yet but we expect to see a huge difference because Eibach and Bilstein used oil and nitrogen that is separated between a valve while Iron Man uses Foam Cell which is a Foam that is injected with Nitrogen. In the Iron Man setup, the foam will expand and compressed based on the vehicle's driving condition.
Great starting points are Bilstein 6112 and 5100, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2, Fox 2.0 or Icon stage 1. After that, you would be looking in more high end parts.
@@ShockSurplus out of those options. Which would be the least harsh daily yet still have enough "control" to take the occasional harsh bump. My wife just got a 17 4runner and I want to make it ride nice but be able to handle potholes and manhole covers well since she seems to like to hit every single one.
This video shows a large varies but entry level can start at about $300-400 for a full set like Bilstein 5100 but can easy get into the several Thousands like Bilstein 8112 for about $4000 for a full set.
You will probably need service around the 35-40k mile mark on something like a Fox, King, or Icon. Usually it is around 50k for strictly street, so if you are not beating on it too hard or too frequently off-road you will not see too much of a decrease in life expectancy. With that said you can likely get away with double those miles on something like a Bilstein or OME before they need to be serviced or replaced. Their seals often can not take abuse and temps of the other brands, but they last a heck of a lot longer under more moderate conditions.
They do not offer coilovers. We are actually looking at possible doing a Fox 2.0 coilover all custom on one of our 5th gen 4runners. Note this is going to take some fabrication to fit in as well.
Thanks for the video! Would you guys recommend swapping the factory UCA’s if installing a Eibach stage 2 lift kit or I should be fine using the original ones? Cheers
If you're keeping this 2" or under, the stock ones are fine. 2" are more you should get a UCA, and 3" or more if you have to get a UCA. Then any 2.5 series shocks requires a new UCA if you ever considered going into any of those.

Based on this specific video, for the 4Runner, most are under $4000. and we've listed roughly how much they cost. Fox 2.0 coilover and shocks - $1200 Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 coilover and shocks - $1100 Bilstein 6112 struts and 5100 shocks - $950 unassembled, $ 1100 assembled. Icon 2.5 CDCV coilover and shock - $3500 (can be cheaper if you remove the CDCV) King coilover and shocks - $3000 (can be more expensive if you want adjustment and/or extended travel) Bilstein 8112 and 8100 - $4000 Old Man Emu BP51 coilover and shocks - $2800 However if you build it and need like UCA, or rear spring, or other parts they w ill add additional on top of these base prices. Check our website and plug in your vehicle, you can see all these kits listed and t heir current price,.
The aftermarket Fox parts are different then the OE Toyota Fox parts. We run Fox on our own rigs and they're pretty solid and have taken a good beating.

What would you recommend for a simple man with a 3rd gen 4Runner who just wants to upgrade the suspension to ride smooth on road?
Sure you definitely do not need anything crazy. I would say you would be really happy with something like the Eibach Pro Truck Sport struts and shocks. They should make it a good bit more comfortable and stable on the road. Plus they last a long time so you get a lot for your money.
What would you recommend for those with the KDSS option? Got a '22 ORP.
For a work truck/mild overlander build.
Eibach on a budget, Icon mid tier, Dobinsons MRR top end. We like adjustability for work loads / overland gear loads / daily driven vehicle that sees a lot of variance in use
Would love to see what you recommend for FJ Cruisers
The FJ actually uses the same parts a the 4Runner based on the year of it. Use this as a guide to help you see what suits you specifically.
@@ShockSurplus yea everything about OME is just pointing me that direction
Great video! Will the Eibach stage 2 rear springs provide more support then my stock? I get about a 1/2” droop with a small bike rack. It will go down a full inch with just one bike added. Thanks!
Yes, all springs that come with the stage 2 kits are providing some height gain over stock, and are a tad firmer
Interesting. I got an Elka fully adjustable, front and rear, and it rides perfectly both on and off road. No body lean, hugs corners like a car, and tackles any big bumps and such with ease. Definitely rides like a truck, but I love that. It’s what I grew up with. 👍🤪🏳️🌈
Thanks for sharing!
Give us a shout through our website with a better idea of how you are using it and what you're looking to achieve from the upgrade and we would love to help you out. www.shocksurplus.com/pages/contact-us
Will be wise to trade the trd pro fox shocks for bp51 ?
the trd pro are pretty good for all around use. the bp51 are adjustable, and you can also gain some more ride height in the front if that's something you're after. the bp51 can be made much much softer compared to the trd pro fox shocks.
Just looking for everyday driver and off-road capable sounds like the Bilstein 6112 is for me huh?
Eibach's 2.0 setup is always more than adequate, not really mentioned here, but since the recording of this video Eibach has made it onto our list for great daily driver comfort while staying capable offroad

HOW R the Billstien 5100 adjustable shocks?¿
They are height adjustable but not like a coilover. They use a circlip to determine the lift height. They are a great staring point and really solid for day to day driving.
Failed on me, known for leaking
Which one you recommend for 2022 4runner trd pro high speed and trails?
BP51s, 8112s
Any recommendations for my 2006 Toyota 4Runner Sports Ed V6?
Really depends on what you're trying to do. What the build goal is or build plans? Is it stock height or is lifted? Does it have anything that alters the constant weight load? Contact our sales directly for assistance.
I've heard complaints about the ease of compression and rebound adjustment for the OME BP51's. What is you take on that for someone who would often make adjustments for the street vs. off-road? Thanks.
They are a tad bit difficult to adjustment because they are on the shock body. The rear are easy to access but the front coilover is a bit more work to adjust.
When you say these shocks will need servicing, what type of servicing are you talking about? Appox what is the cost?
Service or Rebuilds intervals varies on one's usage and how hard you drive, condition you're driving and how long you've had them. You can view our rebuilding fees with this link here: www.shocksurplus.com/pages/shock-service
Any thoughts on Dobinsons MRR? Any better alternatives for the same coin?
We'll be getting into Dobinsons soon, but dont have enough experience there yet to give a review or comparison
If you have already thoroughly tested the bilstein B8 8112, which one would you choose? The B8 8112 or the BP-51?
@@ShockSurplus Thanks for the info!

What do you guys think about the Ironman 4x4 suspension
We don't sell their product line but they did send us some parts which we will be testing. It's on our calendar.
@@ShockSurplus I'm also curious about this. Specifically looking at the "Foam Cell Pro Stage 2 w/ KDSS"
Which ones would you recommend for a Toyota 4Runner 1991 sr5
The Bilstein 4600's are very popular for your 4Runner. If it is lifted, then going with the 5100's would be the way to go
Awesome video. Thanks for putting this out!
Glad you enjoyed it!
What are your thoughts on the Toytec Aluma series?
Haven't tried em
What would you recommend for someone who is getting into off roading and uses their 4runner as a daily? 2021 Ofr if it helps.
Great starting points are Bilstein 6112 and 5100, Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2, Fox 2.0 or Icon stage 1. After that, you would be looking in more high end parts.
@@ShockSurplus appreciate it!
@@ShockSurplus out of those options. Which would be the least harsh daily yet still have enough "control" to take the occasional harsh bump. My wife just got a 17 4runner and I want to make it ride nice but be able to handle potholes and manhole covers well since she seems to like to hit every single one.
For cost you said, $300-400? Is that each, per frt or rear set or for all 4?
This video shows a large varies but entry level can start at about $300-400 for a full set like Bilstein 5100 but can easy get into the several Thousands like Bilstein 8112 for about $4000 for a full set.
Great video. Question about servicing them, with minimal serious off-roading, how often do I have to take them off to service?
You will probably need service around the 35-40k mile mark on something like a Fox, King, or Icon. Usually it is around 50k for strictly street, so if you are not beating on it too hard or too frequently off-road you will not see too much of a decrease in life expectancy. With that said you can likely get away with double those miles on something like a Bilstein or OME before they need to be serviced or replaced. Their seals often can not take abuse and temps of the other brands, but they last a heck of a lot longer under more moderate conditions.
Please do a Robinson mra
how about old man emu FR03 90021
Which one of those will work with KDSS ?
They all will. Bilstein, King, Old Man Emu have specific KDSS part numbers but others do not.
Are there Coil Overs for REAR 2020 4RUNNER?
They do not offer coilovers. We are actually looking at possible doing a Fox 2.0 coilover all custom on one of our 5th gen 4runners. Note this is going to take some fabrication to fit in as well.
@@ShockSurplus I would love to see what it takes!
@@ShockSurplus Are you going to do this anytime soon?
which one work best for a KDSS 4runner?
All of them will, just a matter of what you're looking for. Daily, towing, hauling, high speed off-roading, crawling, overland and etc.
What if you want to do both overland and high speed ? It also my daily
Timestamps?
they're in the description
Thanks for the video! Would you guys recommend swapping the factory UCA’s if installing a Eibach stage 2 lift kit or I should be fine using the original ones? Cheers
If you're keeping this 2" or under, the stock ones are fine. 2" are more you should get a UCA, and 3" or more if you have to get a UCA. Then any 2.5 series shocks requires a new UCA if you ever considered going into any of those.
@@ShockSurplus great! Thank you so much for the feedback 🤘🏼

Where does Toytec fall in this?
We don't offer Toytec so we can't provide information to where they stand. We don't run them on any of our rigs either.
Thoughts on toy tec?
We don't have Toytec and currently have no brands to bring them in.
Thank you for the lesson
thanks, holler if we can help with anything else!
if you want to win, Win with the KING!!!!
hard to beat
Best one for just road comfort with KDSS suspension?
Bilstein 6112 would be our go to. We run these are on our 4runners.
I run them on my 98 in the rear and wow the difference is really amazing and that's with a factory spring , now I'm replacing all four corners shocks and springs just got to find the best spring for this year model , I do a lot of towing for my mower business , so I need something that wont make it squat though any advice , and has anyone ever tried bags ??
Awesome video!
Rats. 2003 and up... 3rd Gen 4Runners?
About the same in terms is parts offered but they use different part numbers.
How about something les than $4000 for the rest of us?
Based on this specific video, for the 4Runner, most are under $4000. and we've listed roughly how much they cost.
Fox 2.0 coilover and shocks - $1200
Eibach Pro Truck Stage 2 coilover and shocks - $1100
Bilstein 6112 struts and 5100 shocks - $950 unassembled, $ 1100 assembled.
Icon 2.5 CDCV coilover and shock - $3500 (can be cheaper if you remove the CDCV)
King coilover and shocks - $3000 (can be more expensive if you want adjustment and/or extended travel)
Bilstein 8112 and 8100 - $4000
Old Man Emu BP51 coilover and shocks - $2800
However if you build it and need like UCA, or rear spring, or other parts they w ill add additional on top of these base prices. Check our website and plug in your vehicle, you can see all these kits listed and t heir current price,.
I like long life stock, no need going to maintenance
We would love that but no suspension is life long. You either need them rebuilt or buy new ones base on the brand you go with.
Awesome video..thank you..very informative

Since my 30k mile 4runner TRD pros JUNK fox shocks keep failing with normal driving... Time to upgrade. I will never touch a vehicle with fox again.
The aftermarket Fox parts are different then the OE Toyota Fox parts. We run Fox on our own rigs and they're pretty solid and have taken a good beating.
Dam my 4runner wants the BP51's but my wallet says Fox 2.0😂 good review 2 thumbs up
No Elka? I’ve heard awesome things about them.
Unfortunately, we do not offer Elka currently so we cannot provide our review on them.
I was wondering the same. Sandy Cats channel really likes them and used to rave about Kings until he got Elka.
Toytech and Elka are the exact same shock. 2.0 is well made but stiff on my 3rd gen
which is the cheapest softest ride
If you're using the vehicle to tow, haul, or off-roading, you do not want to go softer. Please contact our sales team and give us more info on your build and we'll help you out.
Is 6112s serviceable like fox and eibach?
6112 are serviceable, unlikely people will need it though. Eibach is not serviceable
@@ShockSurplus are you sure..? Bc I researched about it online and it’s says Bilstien 6112s and 5160s are not serviceable. Have you guys done any rebuild of 6112s?
My 4Runner ORP doesn’t have KDSS, so what’s the next best thing I can install?
most shocks now have a non-kdss option, Fox doesn't change part numbers between kdss and non, neither does bilstein, Kings do, OME doesnt.
