Happy birthday Robert although I think you have a few years to catch up to me at 75. Your passion for your music and all things paint makes your videos compulsory viewing for me and has taught me so much. The AK 1K clear looks fantastic and very consistent across the range of paints you tested on. Keep up the great vids and many more birthdays to come to enjoy with Judy and Ollie. Cheers from Oz.
Happy Birthday!!!. I have been watching you for a little over a year. I decided to get back into Model building when i was diagnosed with cancer.. When chemo ran me into the dirt, I would watch your videos when I couldnt do much else... My wife bought me a kit of started model tools and a wooden, laser cut rack to help me with the hobby... I really cant thank you enough for the boost you gave me and the no BS reviews of the tools, paints and techniques .... I am currently have 3 models in various stages of construction... a 1:48 P-61, a 1:48 B17G and a 1:72 TBF... and I just completed my last surgery and I am cancer free..... Thank you again!
Congratulations and model on. All three you mentioned sound great. I have small shipment arriving tomorrow from Spru-Brothers, there's a F4F-4 Wildcat, and SBD-5, as well as a few odds ends. I can't wait to get started on them
Robert, Happy Day of Birth! Crank the Sabbath War Pigs!! I'm 66 going on 67 next month July 20th. I got to watch man's first steps on the moon opening my birthday gifts! Anyway thanks for the AK super gloss 1K test. I sure appreciate your paint tests. I always feel better about buying paints for my modeling because of you. I still feel the best music came out of the sixties and seventies and we grew up enjoying it all!! Take care and keep the tests coming!
And they can tell you the percentage range of the ingredients, not the exact amounts. That’s what they did for the remeltable casting compound. But then when I tested it it turned out a pretty wide range of the ingredients worked anyway.
Happy Birthday Robert!! Hope I get to see your videos for at lot more years to come😁. I love watching your videos, and these tests are gems on their own. Your videos influenced my purchases quite a few times, and this will be one of those times, as soon as some of my favorite stores get it in stock. Thanks for a great video!
Well Happy Birthday!!! Yet another quality video on supplies and equipment. Just when I thought I had it all figured out... BAM another video to remind me I still have more to learn. Thank you for your advice and expertise.
A very happy birthday in advance robert. And that clear over that purple was awesome. When i saw the result automaticly the song Paranoid from Black Sabbath hopped into my mind, and it is still in there and won,t be leaving today.
Happy Birthday! Mine is incredible close too. Maybe I'll make a trip down to GundamPros for a shopping spree. Cause I don't have enough Gundam and other models back logged as it is.
I love your channel, been watching it for about a year now, And I've learned a lot being that I'm a new airbrush user. I really like using the duplicate dollar clear coat, and I cut it with the rustolium thinner.
Happy Birthday! Love all your reviews, and your upbeat demeanor, too. Even when that cheap nail polish (?) air gun fell apart on you and you took it all in stride. One of my favorites. Have you ever considered doing a bloopers reel? 😊
Thanks for everything you do my friend I’ve learned a lot from you and just ordered one of your Barbatos Rex swallowtails from Gaahleri your an inspiration to a lot of us.
Happy birthday Robert, the absolute best product reviewer for all of us in the hobby! I have learned to much from this channel, people in the hobby are outside their minds if they don’t subscribe.
You always have the newest coolest stuff. I have truly enjoyed and learned a lot from your channel. I have the rechargeable air blower, Tamiya Mark fir strong, Gaaheleri 39, I use your acrylic airbrush cleaner recipie, the Ansai panel line pen, Micro Mark nippers, Badger paint mixer, and I am sure there are other things. Now i will be ordering this clear directly. Thanks for all that you do and a very Happy Birthday to you! BTW I am almost 50 and I still listen to heavy metal and hard rock every day. Age is just a number and music from our teen years never seems to leave us. Tiffany/Dirt Road Cinderella
Happy Birthday. Talk to the Boss, see if you can get the day off. Would love to see a test with the AK Super Clear shot through the "Electric Spray Gun". If it can spray a clear gloss in an even coat I just might have to get one.
I like how you show the sprayed and non-sprayed part on the tamiya spray can. You should continue on that, so we can see, what is really affecting the color. It's just for the spoon test, for a model part, it's better as usual full sprayed. It's just my opinion. Oh yeah black sabbath remaster, with denon in the workplace, that would be so much spirit in there while work, haha And happy birthday, sir, wishing all the best for you, family, and your channel community. keep up!
Great video...have you ever heard of Life Tone paints? They have a topcoat (water base) called "Life Tone Gloss topcoat 200". Saw it being used on Grandpa Mark You Tube channel on his GTO car build. Looked pretty good to me.
I am going to start making my own airbrush paint as buying pre-thinned stuff isn't economical. Expensive for only 17ml of paint. I know I need mica powder (I'm ordering off amazon and could use a decent maker and/or set to get), bottles, ball bearings to put in said bottles, and what would you recommend to use as the medium? Preferably something I can get either in automotive stores or Walmart.
I have experimented a bit with mica powders. They do NOT like Future/Pledge as a carrier. They spray and mix fairly well with clear solvent based LACQUER. The gloss is very dependent on the flake size and the powder to carrier ratio.
What happened to the dark green spoon, it didn't make the final review. It was looking really good during the spray test, and I was thinking it was looking a lot like the color Ford used on their "Bullitt" Mustangs. At work the person celebrating their birthday is expected to bring in some foodie treats like doughnuts or muffins. Happy Birthday Robert!!!!
Ironically, Isopropyl Alcohol is pure. Rubbing Alcohol is diluted with water (Commonly a 70/30 mix) That AK Thinner, from the ingredients list is: PGME (solvent), Monopropylene Glycol (slow evaporation), Methyl Ether (Low temp solvent). So you may get a different result using one or the other.
Thank you. I was looking at the screen waiting for him to notice that the actual compounds are listed right on the bottle. I don't think a sniff test is the most reliable when it comes to figuring out chemical compatibility :D
@@treborrrrr Yep. I hope it did come off as trying to be a smart-arse (Which I self-admittedly can, because my brain just moves at high-speed sometimes). But, what something really is can make a difference. Like in this instance, the AK product will likely flash-off and cure slightly slower due to the MPG as a retarder. Just as important though, is it different enough to justify, in some cases, exorbitant pricing for nothing more than fancy packaging and voodoo nonsense claims for the same chemical.
First, thanks for the informative vid's and Happy B-Day! Mine was yesterday, but I do my best to just let it pass by unacknowledged! LOL! - I want to get my first airbrush and like the Gaahlari units you've shown and it so happens they're having a mid-year sale through June. Up to 40% off and free shipping over $50USD (And unusually, that includes free to Canada! Whoot!) I've got a cart full on their page, with the 98D in it, plus both size upgrade kits, extra o-ring kits, etc. (I figure grab spare parts right off the bat) ...... BUT...... Since I'm a weldor and use spray cans with a pistol grip, your Swallowtail version might be more "Natural" for me. Also might be easier to hold given all the broken fingers and accompanying stiffness over the years. LOL! Best wishes! Bert the Weldor
ak colors ar real impressiv good quality ! and the chares ar full ! not half full like H + Ta with ak you do nothing wrong ihn the airbush color section.
so im curious... i usually use 99% cleaning my 3D printed FDM and Resin parts -- but -- Does 99% ISO Make A Diff For Paint vs 91% ?? -- or is it too hot ? i know 99% evaps much faster vs 70%. but 90-95% still evaporates pretty fast. i figured if anybody would know, its the Big Rex. and i hope you had a VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY buddy !! and Many More to come !!!
You mention isopropyl alcohol and rubbing alcohol Please know that rubbing alcohol is different. It has mineral oil added that could cause problems with your paint finish
Happy birthday Robert although I think you have a few years to catch up to me at 75. I’m with you I’m 75 also and sometimes try to act like I’m in my 20’s.
Happy Birthday!!!. I have been watching you for a little over a year. I decided to get back into Model building when i was diagnosed with cancer.. Congratulations my friend. That's awesome news.
Happy Birthday Robert, and keep up the great videos
Thank you my friend
Happy birthday Robert l am 57 and still listen to Black Sabbath and heavy metal and again thanks for the test's and reviews.
Robert, Happy Day of Birth! Crank the Sabbath War Pigs!! I'm 66 going on 67 next month July 20th. I got to watch man's first steps on the moon opening my birthday gifts! Have a great Brithday Robert.
Excellent test on this new clear from AK. It looks real good on everything.
good tip to try and find out what solvents are in a paint is to download the safety data sheet (SDS). it tells you exactly what is in a paint.
No they don’t. They’re only required to list hazardous ingredients.
What an amazing source of information. My main source as I research prior to getting into airbrushing. Keep up the great videos!
A very happy birthday in advance robert. And that clear over that purple was awesome. When i saw the result automaticly the song Paranoid from Black Sabbath hopped into my mind, and it is still in there and won,t be leaving today.
That looks like some very nice clear. I'm like you, I like trying out different clears to see how they work.
Happy Birthday!
Mine is incredible close too. Maybe I'll make a trip down to GundamPros for a shopping spree. Cause I don't have enough Gundam and other models back logged as it is.
Great results with that 1K good review as always REX! Thanks for always being on top of what’s new and what’s coming!
I love your channel, been watching it for about a year now, And I've learned a lot being that I'm a new airbrush user. I really like using the duplicate dollar clear coat, and I cut it with the rustolium thinner.
I'm going to grab a bottle of this clear, it seems like a great way to get a nice finish with minimal work!
Happy Birthday! Love all your reviews, and your upbeat demeanor, too. Even when that cheap nail polish (?) air gun fell apart on you and you took it all in stride. One of my favorites.
Have you ever considered doing a bloopers reel? 😊
Great videos. Just ordered some from Mega Hobby. Can't wait to try it out.
Thanks for everything you do my friend I’ve learned a lot from you and just ordered one of your Barbatos Rex swallowtails from Gaahleri your an inspiration to a lot of us.

Happy birthday Rex best wishes 🥳🥳 🎉
Would like to see a further chrome test! Also - DURABILITY! Scratch test! VERY interested in this product
Was just looking for a clear finish looks like I can stop looking. I will use this for my first build in retirement.

Another great review and very timely too: I'm finding none of my clear gloss-coats are working to satisfaction lately. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
The chrome turned out pretty awesome imo, I’d like to see it on the alclad 😎
Nice review! this product is a must have!
Robert, Happy Birthday! In Germany, the birthday boy pays for the entire celebration with friends generally at a restaurant.
I’m 55 still listening to 70’s and 80’s heavy metal
Same here, especially NWOBHM.
I'm in my 40's and still listen to 70's, 80's... music, cause I'm cultured.
58 and still listen to the same... 🤘🤘
I miss Ronnie James Dio…
Can you test it over the green stuff world Gold, brass, bronze chromes that are also alcohol based?
Happy Birthday. Talk to the Boss, see if you can get the day off. Would love to see a test with the AK Super Clear shot through the "Electric Spray Gun". If it can spray a clear gloss in an even coat I just might have to get one.
Have you ever tested the Car Rep 2K clear?
I like how you show the sprayed and non-sprayed part on the tamiya spray can. You should continue on that, so we can see, what is really affecting the color. It's just for the spoon test, for a model part, it's better as usual full sprayed. It's just my opinion.

Does anyone know if this clear can be used to touch up exterior paint on a real car?
Keep the great videos coming
Great video...have you ever heard of Life Tone paints? They have a topcoat (water base) called "Life Tone Gloss topcoat 200". Saw it being used on Grandpa Mark You Tube channel on his GTO car build. Looked pretty good to me.
Again, Happy birthday bud! Can't wait for you to test the trigger harbor freight spray gun!... 🙂👍😁

I still love a bit of Motorhead at 75 years of age and hope I can until I'm "Stone Dead Forever" 🤘
Yes' Like to see it over Chrome' ,spay can tipes and so on,, Thank You....
Have you tried 2K clear over chrome paint? It works perfectly. In my experience, it does not seem to negatively impact the chrome shine what so ever.
Great video Thanks. I like painting fishing lures I'm going to try that 1k on some Thanks again 👍👍👍

Can a hypershift pigment such as a KP Pigments ZBB be used in the clear?

Just wanted to say Happy Birthday!
Great video, may I ask will you be testing out flatting and polishing this clear material.
How does it do with sanding and buffing?
You could do a contest when you hit 100k subs. Winner has closest guess of the number of all your color sample spoons you have in the house..... LOL!
Thanks again for another great video!
Real good video Rex! Always looking for a low odor clear. I'm on the waiting list at Mega Hobbies! Thank you 😎👍
ak colors ar real impressiv good quality ! and the chares ar full ! not half full like H + Ta with ak you do nothing wrong ihn the airbush color section.
I get a lot of thangs from Magahobby an from order to the front door is always with in a week or less
Great test. What psi did you spray this, & what tip size did you use. Thank you for all of the tests & work you put out for us. Happy Birthday to you.
Looking forward to seeing you test the black widow today
Is it still sand and buffable?
Great video. I wonder how this works as a base for chrome over a flat black.. also would love to see how this works over alclad and duralumen etc
That video test will be done
Awesome!
I bought the lionbow after your video it looked great and would be perfect for me. It arrived two days ago, and it doesn't even work haha
Boom 💥

You mention isopropyl alcohol and rubbing alcohol
Please know that rubbing alcohol is different. It has mineral oil added that could cause problems with your paint finish
What was the psi you used?
18 to 20 psi
You’ll need to to do a sound demo with your stereo.
Some of Black Sabath he showed. I bet he's in his man cave right listening to his music.
Happy Birthday
I'm 62 and still listening to heavy metal. ☠️
HBD Robert! Does the 1k imply some kind of hardness?
Not bad for AK, honestly.
I find their stuff hit or miss and tempormental at times.
Can not wait for that black widow review, should be interesting.
How do you think that Super Gloss Finish would work over primer or flat colors?
Happy birthday Robert. Can you buff the 1K over chrome?
Doesnt seem to be available from the ak´s official site for some reason 🤔
I have get some
