I'm not making any judgments here, but I have to say one thing: you can play something with your heart or with your head and you'll come to a different conclusion in each case. This solo is about an interpretation of a standard that we already know from dance music. A solo on a piece with this tempo has to be attempted first, which is why I have the greatest respect for drumming and Hammond playing.

He does it from time to time... Usually correlates with the intensity of the music but also emotionally driven, I think.

Wonderful drumming however I do not like the sound of his drums. I never did! His playing is superb. I really like drums that have natural tone. Jeff Hamilton is an example. The sound is rich. I would love to hear Gadd with open sounding drums. Thank you for the video.

Its tighter sounding because he's playing up tempo and the ringing drums might get in the way or make it sound muddy. I like both sounds it all depends on the style and tempo in my opinion.

I don't understand what people find in Steve Gadd's solos. I get Vinnie, Gary Novak, Weckl-they have everything: music, dynamics, technique. But with Gadd, it's just complete, monotonous boredom.

Maybe it's his own completely unique style, sound and feel? Surely there must be some reason he's always been in demand?
