    8:32-9:12 is the best musical thing ever conceived on this Earth. Pure and absolute genius masterpiece that only the great Schunert could think of.

    The melody is so so beautiful. Someone says music is the language of God. It is not an exaggeration. Schubert was such a talent.

    Quelle tristesse, pour nous, simples mortels, que l'auteur de ce chef-d'oeuvre (et de nombreux autres) ait quitté la scène aussi prématurément! Et cette symphonie comprend des transitions/résolutions si inattendues et si géniales, que l'on ne peut pas imaginer aisément les deux mouvements qui manquent! Mais les deux premiers mouvements, quel bonheur!

    I remember the first time I heard this. It was in the movie called Counterpoint. Charlton Heston is a conductor who captured by Nazi general. It was more than 50 years ago, but since then Schubert 8th symphony is one of my favorites

    How awesome is it that Hal Ashby selected this work to play in the background (on TV of course) during the beginning of 1979's "Being There." After all, Chance the Gardener was "unfinished."

    I first heard this in a Pingu episode where his parents went to a concert. Pingu and Pinga had a good time listening to the radio at home though they were supposed to be in bed.

      He did compose a sketch of the third movement which still survives. Some believe the B minor Entr'acte from Rosamunde may have been the original 4th movement.

      The symphony is already weighty with its two movements. The second movement resolves the whole work.

    A very fine performance - though I wish a little more brass in the climaxes. But for string and wind playing - Vienna (regardless if Philharmonic or Symphony) is extremely fine.

    I'm not well read on this work, but are there sections in the first movement that were left incomplete? The transitions generally seem logical, but it also sounds like there are some pauses where the transition *may* have not been finished.
